This is in the list of my top 10 favorite songs of all time; I remember I was 17 and was looking for sad songs; I literally googled “saddest songs ever” and this website had a list which contained this song; been a Sufjan fan eversince
funny that that is the way how people discover Sufjan Stevens. I discovered him by clicking on an RYM list of 500 most depressing songs of all time, The Only Thing was on number one, I instantly loved it.
Wow it is 2024 and i finally had the courage to listen to this entire playlist of Sufjan's Rare songs. ( I've known about this playlist for a while now, but i wanted to keep it for a special moment) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this! What an amazing feeling to be able to listen to these very personal and obscure pieces, covers and demos by Sufjan! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! ❤
I'm going to assume we will get something like that one day. Like, everything he's ever made in relation to Illinois as a 30th or 40th or 50th anniversary release. Time has a way of doing that.
i think this is a wonderful idea, although i believe he said it was about one of his female friends that had bone cancer? i can’t remember. but it’s a lovely way of interpreting it ❤
That kick him in face line caught me.
i will never stop being bowled over by "he takes and he takes and he takes"

awesome
One of very few people that can make a demo more intimate and beautiful than the studio version
I think demos sounding more intimate is sort of a given
Interesting how the lyrics changed.
Constant tweeking...wish I had access to every song of his ever recorded. Would love to hear the evolution of each track.
I like to think it’s about a boy.
I'm sure you do
@@nobody_gtkyes i do ❤
