Thank you mr. Sree Iyer that you don't call Sanatana Dharma a religion, but a way of life.
I really love how in this video and in the comment section many haven't made the fundamental error by interpreting the false name 'hinduism' to be the same as Sanatana Dharma. Many haven't even typed that false name.
It's: derived from the wicked invaders and corrupted people of Bharat Desh in the past, a business, a manipulative control system (as religions are), a copycat. People rather could stick to 'Sanatana Dharma' as the way of life (which isn't a religion) and by calling themselves Sanatani or a follower of Sanatana Dharma instead of the false name 'hindu'. Even if this might be an unpleasant truth.

    Sri Gurubhyo Nama:
    VIJAYADASAMI
My and my family's hearty Vijayadashami greetings to all of you.
The festival of Vijayadashami marks the victory of the human race, both individually and as a society - the victory of the benevolent forces over the demonic forces. A traditional festival that has been going on for many many centuries in India.
What is DHARMA be and what's Adharma ?
What are powers of the Benevolent Forces and the Forces of Adharma (Rakshas) which is the negation of entire humanity?
What is Dharma and what is Adharma are repeated and emphasized in the four Vedas and Smritis. Fundamental to humanity and harmony and human development.
These are called Manava Dharma or Human Dharma. This is constant and permanent till the world lasts. That is, Sanatana Dharma
In Tamil language, the basis of human life is Virtuous conduct, Resources for livelihood, enjoyment incidental to life, and reaching Heavenly Abode. This is called Dharmartha Kama Moksha in Sanskrit.
This is the source of the goal of every human born.
The theistic and atheistic arguments whether God exists or not, comes later.
Manusmruti has clearly emphasized these 10 gunas as basic characteristics for dharma.
Common to all mankind in the world. Let's see that sloka:
Dhrithi : Kshama damosteyam Saucham Indriya Nigraha :
Dhee: Vidya Satyam Akrodho Dasakam Dharma Lakshanam
    धृति: क्षमा दमोस्तेयं शोचम् इंद्रिय निग्रह:
    धी: विद्या सत्यमक्रोधो दशकम् धर्म लक्षणम्
    1) Always brave and courageous
    2) Being patient and tolerant
    3) Keeping the mind away from adharma and engaging in noble things
    4) Non-stealing
    5) keeping the physical body pure
    6) Enjoying and experiencing senses through the eyes, mouth, nose, and ears with control
    7) Allowing intellect to pervade over mind
    8) Continuous learning till the end
    9) Adherence to truth
    10) Avoidance of anger
are the basic characteristics of Sanatana Dharma or simply called Dharma.
    And in the next sloka
Dasa lakshanani dharmasya ye vipra : samathiyate
    Adeetya chanuvartante te yanti paramamgatim
    दश लक्षणानी धर्मस्य ये विप्रा: समधीयते
    अधित्य चानुवर्तेन्ते ते यांति परमांगतिं
Dasa lakshanaani dharmasya ye vipraa: samadheeyate
    adheetya chaanuvartante te yaanti paramamgathim
Any enlightened person who knows and understands these ten dharma characteristics well and practices them in life, attains moksha, liberated from the cycle of rebirth after dehanth.
This is the foundation of Sanatana Dharma. This is the most Basic.Let's stick to this first before getting into Debates on existence of the Creator
Let's be Victorious. Victory is assured in our Scriptures.
May the Incarnations like Sri Rama and Krishna and all the Devata Shaktis in this Universe stand by us.
    Long live this Universe!

While respecting Dushyants deep rooted wisdom, I must say, all four, jnaana, karma, bhakthi and Raja yoga converge at one point.......Not to speak apriya sathyam et al are modalities and do not define Sanatana Dharma.
To my mind, ( though individual opiniion has no validity), the answer to question what is Sanatana Dharma is embedded within those two words itself.
Sanatana meaning that which always existed or eternally existing and the Dharma is adhering to the true nature. True nature of what? True nature of the Soul.
What is true nature of soul... it is the true nature of Undifferentiated Brahman which is quality less Existance Consciousness Bliss.
The conduct of individual consciousness or Soul on Earth and elsewhere in the universe in its divine true nature is Dharma.
Any deviation from such adhersnce is Adharma. Souls have no Varna, or quality in its true nature status.
All souls are in states of evolution or dissolution or de evolution, depending on its karma. Dharma has nothing to do with individual or its karma on earth or elsewhere.
Dharma is a state of being the Souls per se is ordained to conduct.......those who defy such quantum laws are individually responsible for their karma.
If Brahminical hegemony was practised by certain section of society at any time, those practised such digressions from the dictat of Dharma are responsible and not the Dharma itself.
Each soul is a seed with the potential to evolve as a self effulgent, self evolving univerae by and in itself.
How the soul make use of such opportunity dictates the urdhagathi including moksha, resurrection, attaining higher dimensions above Swarloka, reuniting with Brahman or Sathyaloka or evolve into Brahmatara or Brahmatarantara as demonstrated by Dhruva, Prahlada, Swami Ayyappa et al. Sapta Rishis, Brahma Rishis are other Souls in Highest dimensions.
Since soul is immortal and eternal, Dharma of the soul is also eternal. Hence Sanathana Dharma. Religion is only a hedge to a path while Dharma is ultimate beacon for the soul.
One should not confuse between Dharma and Religion. Religions are truth realized by prophets propagated. Religions are created by followers, prophets usually do not have intention to create religion, but becomes reminder that Dharma of the Soul is binding as Dharma ofcthe body. Hence Dharma Sthaapanaarthe....in other words, in a land of Dharma (at variance with religion), the human beings are expected to conduct in a blissful divine manner in the same way as a Soul would conduct as a particle of Existance Consciousness Bliss the Sat Chit Ananda (or the Single God, as in other belief systems.). Adherance to Dharma or Sanathana Dharma can only produce Blissfulness and nothing less nothing more

Ambedkar had suggested some methods to eradicate the caste system in India. He basically made three recommendations to eliminate the caste system:
    1. Brahmins must denounce the Shastras
    2. Inter-dining between castes
    3. Inter-caste marriage
The eradication of caste system in India is not as easy as it sounds. The caste system has become an inherent part of the lives and mentalities of many Indians.

Interesting discussions. Here is a different take on the same subject based on the 36 Tattvas (creative principles) in Tantra. God (Parasavith or Para Brahman) created 5 Eswara Tattvas to design, create and manage the creations. These are the Eswaras who are different from God that is nondual. Eswaras created the universe using 7 "purusha" Tattvas and 24 "prakrithi" Tattvas. Eswaras are not the God. Eswaras are the founding managers of the universe and they are created beings. Just like scientists have mathematical equations to sum up universal theories, Santana Dharma has abstract equations in the form of Mantras (sound equations) and Eswaras/Dieties as form equations. People confuse with God and Eswaras.

ॐ Core Philosophy of Hinduism (the way of life) or better understood as Sanatan Dharma (the eternal right thing to do).
    A. Key Concepts:
    1. Brahman ~ The Supreme Existence or absolute reality. There are no millions of gods and goddesses but only many manifestations of the same supreme Brahman (cosmic energy and consciousness).
    2. Dharma ~ that which accomplices the three tasks of keeping the set up of the society in excellent condition, bringing about the worldly progress of every living being, and facilitating their progress in the spiritual realm as well (attaining Moksha/Nirvana).
    3. Samsara ~ The Continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation (like Big Bang and Big Crunch and at the cusp of transcending).
    4. Karma ~ The Universal Law of Cause and Effect that one's actions and thoughts directly determine their current and future life similar to Newton's Third Law that every action has an equal and opposite reaction (Action and Acceptance).
    5. Purushartha ~ Inherent Values of the Universe (object of the human pursuit) - Artha (Economic Value). Kama (Pleasures). Dharma (righteousness). Moksha (liberation).
    6. Atman (the belief in the soul) ~ all living creatures have a soul, and they all are part of the supreme soul (Brahman).
    7. SAT-CHIT-ANANDA ~ God or Brahman is referred to as Sat-Chit-Ananda or Sachchidananda (सच्चिदानन- द). It means "Being, Consciousness, Bliss". It is a description of the subjective experience of Brahman. This sublimely blissful experience of boundless, pure consciousness is a glimpse of ultimate reality. "Sat-Chit-Ananda" or "Sachchidananda" is the Sanskrit compound form of the word, which can be translated as "Eternal Consciousness Bliss", or "Absolute Consciousness Bliss", or "Consisting of existence and thought and joy". SAT means Truth, Existence or Pure Being, Chit means Consciousness, and Ananda means Bliss.
    8. Sthitpragya [स्थितप्रज्ञ] - When one discards all selfish desires and cravings of the senses that torment the mind and becomes satisfied in the realization of the self, such a person is said to be transcendentally situated. [प्रजहाति यदा कामान् सर्वान् पार्थ मनोगतान्।आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते।।2.55।।]
    B. The Mahavakyas from Upanishads ~ The Great Sayings
    1. Tat Tvam Asi (That You Are) ~ the very nature of all existence as permeated by the finest essence.
    2. Ahm Brahmasmi ~ I am Brahman (divine)
    3. Prajnanam Brahma ~ Brahman is Prajnana (the highest and purest form of wisdom, intelligence, and understanding).
    4. Ayam Atma Brahma ~ This Self (Atman) is Brahman (divine).
    C. Six Schools [principal darshans] of Hindu Philosophy
    1. Vaisheshika (Kanada) ~ Science of Logic and Futility of Maya - The Vaisheshika school attempts to identify, inventory, and classify the entities and their relations that present themselves to human perceptions. It lists six categories of being (Padarthas), to which was later added a seventh. These are (I) Dravya, or substance, the substratum that exists independently of all other categories and the material cause of all compound things produced from it. Dravyas are nine in number: earth, water, fire, air, ether, time, space, spirit, and mind.
(ii) Guna, or quality, which in turn is subdivided into 24 species.
(iii) Karma or action. Both guna and karma inhere within Dravya and cannot exist independently of it.
(iv) Samanya, or genus, denotes characteristic similarities that allow two or more objects to be classed together.
    (v) Vishesha, or specific difference, which singles out an individual of that class.
(vi) Samavaya, or inherence, indicates that things are inseparably connected. (vii) To these six was later added Abhava, nonexistence or absence.
    2. Nyaya (Gautama) ~ Logical quest for god and phases of creation - Its ultimate concern is to bring an end to human suffering, which results from ignorance of reality. Liberation is brought about through the right knowledge. Nyaya is thus concerned with the means of right knowledge.
    3. Yoga (Patanjali) ~ Practice meditation and Samadhi for Reunification - Yoga holds with Samkhya that the achievement of spiritual liberation (moksha) occurs when the spirit (purusha) is freed from the bondage of matter (Prakriti) that has resulted from ignorance and illusion.
    4. Sankhya (Kapil) ~ Eliminate physical and mental pains and receive liberation - the consistent dualism of matter (Prakriti) and the eternal spirit (purusha). The two are originally separate, but in the course of evolution, Purusha mistakenly identifies itself with aspects of Prakriti. Right knowledge consists of the ability of Purusha to distinguish itself from Prakriti.
    5. Vedanta (Veda Vyas) ~ Explains the divine nature of the soul, Maya, and creation (Conclusion) - Vedanta is also referred to as Vedanta Mimamsa (“Reflection on Vedanta”), Uttara Mimamsa (“Reflection on the Latter Part of the Vedas”), and Brahma Mimamsa (“Reflection on Brahman”).
    6. Mimansa (Jaimini) ~ Explains Vedas are eternal and divine (“Reflection” or “Critical Investigation”) - The aim of Mimamsa is to give rules for the interpretation of the Vedas, the earliest scriptures of Hinduism and to provide a philosophical justification for the observance of Vedic ritual. Because Mimamsa is concerned with the earlier parts of the Vedas (called the Karmakanda), it is also referred to as Purva-Mimamsa (“Prior Study”) or Karma-Mimamsa (“Study of Actions”). Vedanta, which deals with the later portion of Vedic literature called the Upanishads, is called Uttara-Mimamsa (“Posterior Study”) or Jnana-Mimamsa (“Study of Knowledge”).
The Brahman (the cosmic energy that neither can be created nor be destroyed but only transcends through various karmic cycles) is Adi Anadi (ever-existing) even in the nothingness, and that's why Hindus practice Namaste as a form of greeting knowing and understanding that there is Brahman within the other living being as well.

It's a: business, strategy of divide and conquer, manipulative flawed control system as religions are. Rather stick to "Sanatan Dharma" as the way of life (which isn't a religion).

Shree Iyer please do keep ego aside and view the extraordinary research work put up on a TH-cam channel called Shivoham by a Tamilian. Please go through his video on the Balakhandam of the Ramayana, the part that precedes the popularly read 'story of Rama'. This Balakhandam deals with the education of Rama under Vashista, what had made Rama the Adarsha Purusha and whose voice was it that recited the Bhagavad Gita. As an aside, if you could delve deeper in other resources you would find 'Anu Gita'. After the war Arjuna asks Krishna to recite the Gita again. Krishna says he too 'heard' the Gita for the very first time along with Arjuna. Krishna attempts to recall and recite the Gita but fails. This brief incomplete recital by Krishna is Anu Gita.

The Mahabharata is a cesspool of lust, hate and what not. Beginning with how and why Vyasa himself was born. And then how he fathered Dritharastra, Pandu and Vidura. How Kunti had a son (Karna) from the father (The Sun) and another son through the son (Yama the son of The Sun). Talk of morals!!

    *Reality beyond Politics*
Convenient acceptance of Sanatana Dharmam/Manu Smrithi is such a shallow interpretation of Hindu Laws.
Exclusive rights to Sanadana Tharman as Hindusm is another misunderstood perception not only outside TN but sadly across the world.
The Tamil people Inclusive understanding of being identified as Hindu has its history rooted to the evolvement of Hindu laws. It should be credited to South Self Respect Movements.
During early Hindu laws when constructed by the British and the elite group then, had extreme inhumane elements on women empowerment, education and Temple entries. Dr Ambedkar cud not bear to accept this in his country opted to leave the religion. Lot more left mostly to this similar environment.
However the South Self Respect Movements, stood its ground not to leave "Hindu" and made the changes to the law accordingly. Outside TN people must see the resiliennce of Tamil people on social Justice in this context and the results it had produced in terms of women empowerment, education and economic contribution compare to the rest of India/Bhaaratham.

Vedas and Vedantas alone should be considered Sanatana Dharma as they are Shruthis. The rest of the Puranas should also be treated as Smrutis given by Vysa Maharishi. Narada Maharishi told Veda Vyasa that his works on Mahabharata will be misused by people later which has turned out to be true time and again. For example Oppenheimer used it to justify his act on Hiroshima Nagasaki. If that was correct then even Hitler could justify the killing of jews with the same logic. That it was Krishna who has already killed them and Arjuna is just for Karana only. Similarly we can show how karmayoga in BagavadGita can be misinterpreted and abused by people. Gynanis like Narada Maharishis did describe the Apriyam (here the author himself) yet Satyam.

I couldn't understand the concept of pleasant and unpleasant truth. The truth that may be pleasant to one person may not be pleasant to other. So, shall I understand that if someone need to deliver the truth he or she require knowing the effects of the truth before delivering to the people or individual. I think one should deliver the truth irrespective of whether it will be pleasing or displeasing the listeners or receivers. Truth is a truth and selective dissemination of truth is a disservice to God.

The take away is that there is no simple explanation of Sanatana Dharma. Iyerji please don’t minimise Sanatana Dharma as a way of life. It is a lot more than that. Here is an attempt.
Hindus do themselves a disservice by saying Hinduism is a “way of life”.
There is no standard explanation to communicate what is Hinduism. Hence there is a lot of confusion and misinformation. Here is a simple explanation of a complex subject.
Sanatana Dharma 🕉 commonly referred to as Hinduism 🕉 draws from a copious library of scriptures namely; Puranas, Vedas, Upanishads, Shrimad Bhagwatam, Bhagwat Gita and others. Sanatana Dharma can described as consisting of three parts,
    1. Philosophy,
    2. Tenets that describe concepts and
    3. Rituals.
An individual can pick and choose whatever they want from these three parts. So when one says I am a Hindu or a Sanatani, because……their answer will vary.
From the philosophy aspect, one could be a Dvatist (Brahman is separate from the Universe as we know it) or Advaitist (We are all Brahman), or Atheist based on their beliefs. They could be a Shaivait or Vaishnavite or none. Finally, they practice a set of rituals or none that will vary from community to community, person to person. In that sense Sanatana Dharma in its entirety is more than a religion. What people personalise for themselves is the religion.
Sanatana Dharma provides a wide choice for an individual to choose from. There is no specific book or individual or ritual one has to accept to be considered a good Hindu. A Hindu has the benefit of choosing from a library of books, like the Upanishad, Vedas, Puranas, Bhagvad Gita etc. A Hindu has to be a good human being to be considered a good Hindu. A person can be an atheist and yet be a good Hindu. Hinduism welcomes people of other faiths. There is no problem in revering Jesus and Shiva or Vishnu and Ganesha. It is up to the individual to choose.
Hinduism is consistent with Spiritual beliefs. The many Devas and Devis are spirits with attributes. They are not Gods or gods or Lords - These are Abrahamic beliefs that have been adopted by Hindus resulting in Hinduism being cast as polytheist by monotheists. On the contrary the singular supreme entity is Brahman, not to be confused with Brahma.
Unlike God as believed by Abrahamic religions, Brahman is not an entity that controls. Brahman has no attributes. Brahman exists and encapsulates the Laws of the Universe.
Scientists believe there was nothing prior to the birth of the Universe. That “nothing” is Brahman. Atheists too will accept that. From Brahman came the Universe. How that happened, we don’t know.
Abrahamists believe God created the Universe. That is too simplistic a belief. Where is this God? If he/she is around, how come he is not intervening and fixing the mess he/she has created. Oh, they say, it’s all according to his/her plan.
While atheists may differ in accepting the attributes of Brahman, they cannot reject the notion that there was a void and from that void the Universe came about. In the Atheist belief system Brahman is and was a void.
Additionally there are numerous parables in Sanatana Dharma scriptures. Some choose to call these parables mythology. What is important is the essence of the parable rather than the specifics of the parable.

I dont think Shabd Praman or belief in the scriptures is in the interest of Sanatanis. You need to develop own faculties and learn the knowledge on your own. Ancient scriptures are all translations of even more ancient texts and the context has changed most meanings.

      @pavanakumarmohanamuraly6433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think it is good to stop giving personal opinion as Dushyanth says in this talk. You have to start somewhere and that is the scriptures. Adi shankara says that only an enlightened guru rooted in the shastras can provide or pass this gyana, otherwise it is a blind man showing the path to another blind man. Learning shastra under a guru and following the path set in the scriptures is the way shown by our rishis to attain the highest knowledge (brahma gyanam). It is best to stop commenting about scriptures and time to start reading and understanding them ! Maybe you are reading translation by Sheldon Pollock :D

Mandar Karnik Both scriptural knowledge and experience are important. Both can verify each other. Yes, "scriptural" knowledge without experience is like a barren land but experience without knowledge is like a blind man. eg Buddhists wrongly conclude "Nirvana" despite giving importance to "experience". Also don't believe this nonsense that modern gurus who say focus only on experience "gained" all their knowledge only through experience. It means, they also read books even though only encourage experience. Not everyone who attain samadhi can download direct knowledge or read past/present/future or have clairvoyant abilities. It is a totally different dimension. eg Sadhguru in his early days supported fake Aryan/Dravidian race theories. If he had "direct" knowledge of everything, why was he supporting a wrong history created by colonialists?

    • @indianmilitary
      @indianmilitary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@pavanakumarmohanamuraly6433 Are so called modern gurus capable of discriminating what is correct or wrong especially when lot of knowledge sources have been distorted and fake verses inserted during colonialism? How are they going to counter the critics without apologizing or pushing it under the carpet or by simply saying it is our "belief"" or playing escapism that all 'religions lead to god" stupidity?

Its my first comment / cruticism on Pguru. All scriptures were written by humen. Krittinan was a Tamil. He was doomed by Raja mata Gandari (Kauravas' mother). You should ask question why Krittinan/Krishnan was doomed to death and His (Yatava) clan will kill each other and die, unknowingly. Krittinan was Adharmic by eyeing to Kill Karna and Killing Tamil Fighter Aravaan who could end the was in 3 Minutes.
Iyer is a Tamil identity given to Andhanan. But, in Your case Shri Iyer, it is missed and misplaced on someone who is misintrepreting a manual written by a human.
Whatever is said by Krittinan is unacceptable if the society needs peace. Krittinan killed all heroes together from both Pandavas (Pallis) and Kauravas (Para+Iyers).
Who the Hell Krittinan was? Was He a Jew/Yuthan/Jatavan/Yatavan/Jat? All are different names for calling one group (Jew).
Sanathan Dharma is no way connected to Hinduism(Brahminical supremacy). Because, Samadhanam is waynof living of non-brahmins (here brahmins means vesha/educated non-indians in Vedas to claim the Brahmanism (originally owned by Southern Indians (PARAiyers).
Wont you feel shame to repeated lies in society, at least in this 21st century for promoting lies repeatedly?
    Shame on Iyerhood (Tamil hood).
Other than this type of religious fools parade, everything is worth watching. Hats off to you Mr. Iyer. By, Para. Selvam Va. Iyer. PhD.
