Yep. Once had a family from Iowa visit us, their 10 year old all excited as we are driving from the air port to our house talking about seeing a gator in Florida. My mom says "You know gators don't just cross the road every single day here" to try and curb his expectations a bit....naw, 45 seconds later a small 4 footer ran across the road in front of us from our neighbors area into our front yard. My Dad and I pissed ourselves laughing so hard...

As a lifelong Florida resident I can confirm this. Gators don't give a single f about human traffic. they'll come, Park their big ol' dino butts right across all Lanes of traffic until they're happy and then they get up and leave.

can i ask why, with everything that happens in the world, is it okay for, the world, to bash and hate America with no actual logic, but when they do it, the world cries like pussies?
im just wondering.. because ive been alllll over the world, and ive never seen such beautiful people until i came to america.
ALMOST EVERYONE in america is either SUPER fit, athletic, or buff...but when i go to the UK or Au, i see a bunch of soft squishy over weight people that look like theyve been breeding with themselves for hundreds of years, or when i go to--..i guess what im trying to get at is, since i moved here..to the US, ive always thought how i never been to a better place, but i hear so many people bash them, i just think maybe theyve never actually been here and only listen to what the news says about them.
here is another FACT. they say america is the most obese country EXCEPT the people they are counting...arent even american natives, they are from the UK, or Japan or someone that JUST moved there, not someone that has had a family established there for generations..oh oh except for the jewish population, but they deserve it, theyve been through a lot, they can what they want. ...so...yea, just the america jokes are played out! and also not true so theres literally that. idiots that believe stats blindly are bad at math.

@Cipheiz Lake Alice, near the college in Gainesville, surrounded by mowed grass and apartments, had a good size gator. A lady took her yapper dog out for a walk on one of those extending clothes-line leashes The line ran out behind her, and she kept on walking around the little lake. Then there was no more line. She looked behind her and the line ran into the water. Screaming and pulling didn't work. When other walkers helped pull, the line came out of the water, but no puppy. Oops! there goes another one!
To be fair, there were "Warning! Gators!" signs all around the lake. Maybe she presumed that meant the local football team?

Rules for gators: leave them alone and they'll leave you alone. And during mating season if you hear a "gator growl", leave the area. Mama gators have no chill. Also went to the University of Florida....GO GATORS!!!! There are dozens and dozens living on the campus itself, mostly around Lake Alice. All sizes. Again, don't feed them, don't bother them, stay way from their nests.

I lived in Wilmington, North Carolina/Carolina Beach, NC (about an hour drive from Myrtle Beach South Carolina) and we had gators there too! Me and the misus took our niece To a place called Greenfield Park, which had a huge lake in it, but there were signs everywhere warning "NO SWIMMING"/"DANGER: ALLIGATORS", and gators there were... Anyhow, we had our infant neice there, in a stroller, and our pet bearded dragon (an Aussie lizard!), with us, so she could get some sun... Anyhow, while seeing gators there was not uncommon, they were generally a little smaller than the Florida one's, though our climate was not that much different than Florida... still, we are further from the equator, so There is some difference in climate, but I digress. On this particular day, there was a big, fat, Florida-sized, 16' foot (6-7 meters?) gator sitting on the shore of the lake, right by the kids playground area, where a bunch of 'bogans' (to borrow an Aussie term) were allowing there young children to get within a few feet/1-2 meters from these surprisingly fast killers... in fact, I, a "city-slicker" from Chicago, had to kindly warn these parents, that it's only a matter of time that this decievingly "slow-moving" gator, locks it's eyes onto one of theses young'uns, standing right in front of it, and immediately switches to lightening-speed mode...snaps it's jaws on to one of these youngsters, before retreating to the water an going into a barrel-roll, as they do with their prey, to disorient, and likely drown them, before eating them, and once that happens, there is not much of anything you can do but watch in horror. Thankfully most of the parents listened to me... I'm guessing that, like myself, most of these parents were probably originally from up north, where we don't have alligators walking the streets... people who grew up in the Southeast United States KNOW how deadly and cunning these creatures can be!

I don’t let my dogs swim in those ponds. I set up a small pool just for my dogs so they don’t get near the ponds. I always carry when I’m out on the ranch not just for Gators but the snakes. I remember as kids, myself and all the other Florida children would go to the Lakes, rivers, springs and creeks to go swimming and there were almost always alligators swimming near us. There was a massive alligator that swam under my kayak once and flipped it. You tell these stories to other Floridians and they share their alligator swims with you. I moved to Australia 3.5 years ago and I've shared these stories with the Aussies around me and they're mind blown that I'm still alive. And those birds that were picking on the alligator, they're the reasons for traffic jams in low traffic areas. So not necessarily the alligators being picked on, but the birds themselves are the problem. You'll be waiting for them to pass for about 15 minutes and if you get out to scare them off, they'll chase you. I'm honestly more scared of the birds than I am the alligators.

Our neighbor's dogs once barked at him from behind the fence, and he turned around and flipped his hind feet at them in a display of the saltiest body language I've ever seen. Completely unfit for polite company. I've also seen him strike at a dog with a front hoof.
