  • Zone plate photographs have a unique atmosphere compared to normal photographs taken with a lens. The biggest reason is that zone plates have multiple focal points, and in particular the light rays related to the zero-order focal point (the focal point at infinity) create a soft image, and the narrow wavelength range of the converged light gives a unique impression. Also, these things change when taking photographs in normal positional relationships and when taking macro photographs. Also, by adding phase correction (the same effect as a lens) to the most basic amplitude zone plate, it is possible to take phase zone plate photographs with an atmosphere similar to that of photographs taken with a lens. So, this video shows the difference between taking macro photographs using amplitude and phase zone plates.
