Percy is the inventor of firearms on this world so mad scientist isn't a stretch. If you noticed enemies haven't reacted much to his gun like in that first brawl, it is bc no one knows what sort of weapon it is.
@@abi_corinne He was also Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Kilgrave from Jessica Jones, and in another animated universe... Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales!
I've been super looking forward to this. I guarantee if you've watched any anime dubs or played any video games in the last decade you probably have heard the actors in Critical Role.
Hi critical Rope fandom member here, also known as a Critter. Been loving your reactions and as a long time fan of the show just wanted to give you a bit of info about the show and game, but don’t worry no spoilers. -Critical Roll started off as a home game run by Voice actor Matthew Mercer for Liam O Brien’s birthday (The Voice Actor for Vax.) The game was only supposed to be one session (better known as a “One shot”) but everyone involved loved it so much Matt made it into a campaign that lasted over five years. -Before their game began streaming on twitch they were actually playing Pathfinder. Once they decided to stream their game on Twitch they switched over to D&D 5th edition. -The name Vox Machina is Latin for “Voice Machine” a reference to all the players being voice actors. -Liam O’ Brien (Vax) and Laura Bailey (Vex) Share a birthday in real life. This coincidence was the inspiration to make their characters twins. -Laura Bailey (Vex) and Travis Willingham (Grog) are married. Marisha Ray (Keyleth) is married to Matthew Mercer, DM and creator of the work Critical Role and Legend of Vox Machina take place in. - While not a mad scientist Percy is the inventor of the first firearm in the Critical Role Universe.
They hid the dragon's weakness to keep the dragons from destroying the knowledge (books/people that knew it). That said IRL "Gorge" entered Middle English from Latin through Old French (so similar words can be found in other Romance languages) and means "Throat" though that meaning in English as such has fallen out of use. So when Gilmore said in the gorge.. it was quite literal.
Oh the dragon colour to damage type is Black dragons deal acid damage, blue is lightning, green is poison, red is fire and white deals cold damage. And that's just chromatic dragons. There are also different types of metallic dragons and gem dragons in DND. Just ya know, you did ask :P
1:50 I think you might mean Reinhardt from Overwatch? Which is funny, because the voice actor who plays him, Darin de Paul, is a good friend of the Critical Role cast. He used to play DnD with Matt Mercer's mother (Matt is the Dungeon Master of Critical Role), guest starred on Critical Role late in their first campaign and is actually in this show as well, as Kerrion Stonefell.
Gonna give some background on the players you'll find interesting. Laura (Vex) and Travis (Grog) are actually married as is Marisha (Keyleth) and Matt (Sylas and several other voices). While they were making their characters Laura and Liam (Vax) decided to have theirs be twins because they share the same birthday. Liam also helped Sam (Scanlan) make his character as Sam wanted to have just play someone utterly ridiculous. Here is the opening for Campaign 1 th-cam.com/video/mHfXAXM4O3E/w-d-xo.html as well as the animated on for the second th-cam.com/video/LhFETREAvhc/w-d-xo.html . Won't be offended if you chose not to watch (also wouldn't know) just thought you'd like them.
I wouldn't worry about not being able to keep track of Vex and Vax. People mixing them up is just a long running gag at this point. Funny that you should mention World of Warcraft though, because Laura Bailey (Vex) is the voice of Jaina Proudmoore and Liam O'Brien (Vax) is the voice of Illidan. And since you were actually thinking of an Overwatch character, Matt Mercer (Silas, half the background characters, and the brains behind the world) is the voice of Cassidy f.k.a. McCree. Also, you not being familiar with Critical Role means you have no idea how absolutely hilarious it is that you remembered Trinket's name and not Scanlan's.
And Mercer is the Arcane mage staff/Aluneth from the WoW Legion expansion, and Taliesin is the male demon hunter voice. :) I’ve found the easiest way to keep the twins apart to just say their full names, Vax’ildan (male, black) and Vex’ahlia (female, blue), but people have all sorts of little tricks to keep them apart. Also, both Matt Mercer and the rest of the cast also gets them confused now and then, so it’s no big deal if you miss it. ;)
gosh gilmore . . . . I am kinda disapointed with the choice of voic actor here. I get they could not let Matt voice everyone, and I get why they chose Sylas but Gilmore is only half as fabioulus without his original voicing
Glad you're enjoying the show Miss Corinne. Don't worry about the names! It's a lot to keep track of but you'll learn it naturally just watching the show. Some fun bits of lore about dragons in D&D that aren't covered in the show implicitly: 1.) There are good, neutral, and evil dragons. Good dragons are metallic based (ie. gold dragons, silver dragons, brass dragons etc.). Neutral dragons are gem based (ie. amethyst, ruby etc.), and Evil dragons are chromatic based (ie. blue dragons, red dragons etc.). 2.) Dragons get larger and more powerful the older they get. 3.) Dragons have differing levels of intelligence as well as different hunting behaviors. (ie. green dragons are extremely intelligent and like to deceive and toy with their prey whereas white dragons are more bestial in nature and tend to hunt in a way more similar to wild predators) 4.) Some of the more intelligent Dragons are capable of harnessing the magic inherent in their nature to utilize powerful sorcery (which is how Brimscythe is able to shapeshift). 5.) Dragons have different types of breath weapons based off their subspecies. For example, green dragons can breathe a cloud of acid, red dragons breathe fire, and blue dragons like Brimscythe breathe lightning. 6.) Dragons have different preferences in habitats based on their nature. Black dragons for example like dwelling in swamps, whereas white dragons tend to live in colder more arctic environments. On a side note, I think the guy you were thinking of in the beginning was Reinhardt from Overwatch - whose voice actor actually has a role in this show incidentally!
Green dragons are actually Poison. Black dragons are acid. Currently playing a Scribe Wizard who is doing his dissertation on Dragons, so I can't not correct that. Haha.
Sylas is voiced by their DM/GM, Matthew Mercer 😂 He wanted at least one character he could voice as himself because in the campaign he voices every other character that aren’t the players and he chose Sylas for the show (and a few other random guards who has his face lol)
Also that one orc/half orc in the Bar in the frist episode (Agar, I think?) who gets his hand chopped off. Oh and Trinket of course, though I think they layered his voice with actual bear noises.
@@SingingSealRiana I was also sad at first when they said Matt wouldn't be voicing Gilmore, but I think Sunil (I hope that's how you spell the name) did a great job.
Gilmore is MORE than just "fabulous" - he's GLORIOUS! Welcome to Critical Role (one of us...) - we'll all be happy to help with lore and some questions you have - but no spoilers, of course (as Travis says, no "metagaming" in this house)! I see other commenters have helped with ways to remember which sibling is which (Vax [mAle, Adam] and Vex [fEmale, Eve]). Your reaction to Silas was perfect lol - you are in for one amazing ride of a story, and we Critters are all here for it! 😁
Yes, it’s based on Critical Role’s first campaign. The first two episodes include elements from their home game, which went on for more than two years before they started streaming online. The rest of the season is an adaptation of one of the story arcs from the streamed game.
If you want to see a couple more DND dragons in action, the trailer for "D&D Honor Among Thieves" (coming out March of next year) has a black dragon dropping that acid breath and the bestest chonkiest red dragon (fire). There is also a white-looking dragon but that's just a statue that has been magically animated (you can see the statue version of it pretty early in the trailer). If it had been real, they have ice breath. On the floor of Brimscythe's secret room, you see a 5-headed dragon icon, which is the symbol of Tiamat, goddess of vengeance and evil dragons (the chromatics). She is actually a 5-headed dragon, with each head being one of the primary chromatic dragon colors (black, blue, green, red, and white).
Show really gets good after meeting the Briarwoods. You might recognise Delilahs voice as Azula from avatar. Worth checking out the voice actor cast. I think you'd get a kick outta who they managed to get on the show.
I'm sure it's already been recommended to you but you should check out some of the other videos they put out leading up to the release of the show after you're done with this season. I think there's one where they talk about the whole voice cast. You'll get to put faces with their characters!
Dragon lore in D&D is quite fascinating, and very in depth. The youtuber mrrhexx has playlist on his channel that goes in depth on the different dragons and dragon kin if you decide to jump down that rabbit hole.
Watching people new to Critical Role doing reactions to LoVM is rapidly becoming my favorite thing. I am glad you're enjoying the show! Your reactions are delightful.
i love that youre continuing this!! ive just recently started DMing a campaign for my family, and its my first time ever DMing, and its so exciting and also frustrating to make up your own cool lore and not be able to just tell your players about it until they figure it out at the right time 🤣🤣 like none of my family know the very first NPC they met, a barkeeper that they will see many times, is actually a dragon-god heavily involved with the plot (he is a good guy on their side though). it's so hard not blurting stuff out!!
In D&D Dragons are broken up into two main groups, Chromatic Dragons; Black, Red, Green, White, and Blue, who are evil aligned and represent different vices and sins, and Metallic Dragons; Gold, Silver, Brass, Bronze, and Copper that are good aligned, representing different Virtues, though there's variance here and there in individuals, another thing to remember is that all Dragons in D&D are shapeshifters, capable of disguising themselves as any of the humanoid races
Reinhart is from Overwatch. Matt who GMed the game is what's his name the cyborg cowboy. Reinhart's voice actor has been on critical role before and played D&D with Matt's mom in the 80's
Quick Dragon course from a D&D DM: 10 colors of dragons, called Flights. These colors represent their alignment and element. 2 classifications, Metallic and Chromatic. Metallic are associated with Good and Lawful, more Celestial/Divine. Chromatics are associated as Evil and Chaotic, more Infernal/Hellish. Red and Gold Flights are Fire based. Blue and Bronze are Lightning. Black and Copper are Acid. White and Silver are Cold/Ice. Green and Brass are Poison. (But not recently. Green is still poison but Brass is now sleep/fire cause poison is evil, I guess.) There are also the Gem Dragons that are associated with Planar travel and Dreams and stuff. They are Amethyst, Topaz, Sapphire, Crystal, Emerald, and Moonstone. These don't really have elements or alignments usually and some of them are psychic. They are weird. Interesting and unique, but weird.
I've watched other people's reactions to this series on other channels and nobody seems to notice a clever little bit of writing in the first episode. The audience's first clue that General Krieg was the dragon is actually when it makes an on screen appearance when Vox Machina first encounters it. The first thing it does is kill a lamb and the first thing we see/hear Krieg do is comment about everyone they've hired so far being "slaughtered like lambs."
Dnd dragons breath attack works in a few ways, it's a line/beam like shown here or a cone. Each has a range and a different save associated to avoid and if you happen to get hit. It's not pretty. Also depending on the dragon you could possibly bribe or offer tribute. Trick is coming upon this information and what the dragon would even want.
15:00 If you want to see a rather short but imo beautifully animated adult vampire show, then I can really recommend giving Castlevania a try. The show has 4 seasons with each 4 to 10 episodes. They are also working on a sequel show right now.
Sylas is voiced by Matthew Mercer, who is the Dungeon Master of Critical Role. You might also know him as Jotaro Kujo in the English Dub of Jojo, Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan, among many other roles!
The 5 chromatic dragons are white, black, red, blue, and green. As you said they have different personalities and breath weapons - blue is lightning, red fire, white ice, green air, and black acid. There are also 5 metallic versions of dragons with the same abilities, but in waves instead of direct beams. Traditionally the metal dragons are good and the chromatic ones are evil Of course this is in DND, the show can do what it wants to stretch the rules, same as any DM can.
The end titles music is actually an instrumental version of "Your turn to roll", a song the Critical Role gang wrote and performed for their second campaign. The same theme, if you listen carefully, is reprised loosely in the main titles and in the epic score during the dragon final fight in this episode. Here's Critical Role official "making of" video, if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/v681w8OMxzs/w-d-xo.html
You were thinking of Reinhardt from Overwatch who is voiced by Darin DePaul. Don't worry, he's in this too, but later in the season. General Kreig was voiced by David Tennant. Highly recommend "The Legend of the Cast of the Legend of Vox Machina" for all the voice actor goodness.
Buckle up! The first 2 episodes basically get the general intros out of the way. It is one HELLUVA ride from here! Every single episode just outdoes the one previous! It'll be fun seeing what ya think!
The sheer confidence these guys have in their product, to have David Tennant on the cast and kill him off two episodes in. Though let's face it, that confidence is fully deserved.
When I forst heard David Tennant was cast i was delighted, then I found out who he was playing and was saddened lol. I knew his time would be too short
1:52 I'm pretty sure the Reinhardt that you confused with Krieg is the big armor boy from Overwatch. At least, I'm not sure of another character by that name that I've come across that's essentially a giant suit of armor. Coincidentally, not that your plate isn't already full, surely, but Blizzard has released a number of amazing cinematic shorts based on the Overwatch universe. I think they're all between 6-10 minutes long and I've seen quite a few people who never played the game do reactions to them and really like them. Matt Mercer, the Dungeon Master for Critical Role, voices one of the characters of Overwatch and multiple other Voice Actors involved with the game have appeared in various ways within Critical Role campaigns. The actress who voices Symmetra appears later in this season in a bit of a side role and the Reinhardt actor joined to play with them for a stretch of at least one campaign. Regardless, Overwatch 2 is being released in October, so there's bound to be renewed interest in a lot of that content, as well, in addition to the cinematics just being worth the watch whether you're recording it for a reaction or not. I always recommend them when I have an excuse. If you did react to them, I'd watch the whole playlist, for sure. It seems like they might vibe with the type of stuff you get into.
@@Caiothewwe4 Oh, wow, thanks! I didn't even realize this. A lot of voice actors, you can hear at least a little bit of their natural voice bleeding through in each of their characters, but that guy is able to do such a wonky variety of archetypes and, to me, none of them look like they should be coming out of his body. 😅
The main 5 Chromatic Dragon types are Red, Blue, Green, Black, and White. Red dragons, generally considered the most powerful, are you classic Fire-breathers, their MO is usually widespread destruction and chaos. Blue dragons are almost as strong but generally a lot more subtle, they're the type to subjugate others to do their bidding and such, setting up their own little fiefdoms, as you saw in the show the breathe Lightning. Green dragons are the real schemers though, they delight in corrupting morals and mind games, they're the type to start a war by saying the right thing in the wrong ear, they breathe clouds of poisonous gas. Black dragons are sadistic swamp-dwellers, they delight in torture and pain, they breathe streams of acid. White dragons are generally considered the weakest Chromatic dragons, they're brutish, animalistic, and predatory, they breathe clouds of freezing vapor.
Depends on how you look at it. Whoever wrote the book was probably just penning verbal histories. Often those were told in poems to help them being handed down properly, to avoid the "telephone" affect. Basically, whoever wrote the book probably didn't know what it meant any more than Vax or us.
Red Dragon is Fire, and generally considered the most powerful. Blue Dragons use lightening, and are just below Reds. Green dragons breathe a poison cloud, and are the middle child. Black Dragons are next in power, and breathe acid. White Dragons breath weapon is cold/frost, and they are generally the weakest. Those are the evil dragons. There's good ones that are metallic, but they're not relevant to this particular story.
If you like the twins, you might enjoy the novel Vox Machina - Kith and Kin. It delves more into their backstory and recounts an adventure in their younger days. Liam and Laura voice their own characters in the audio book.
Please do yourself a massive favor and just watch the original campaign instead, this show absolutely butchers the story and every single character. It's an awful introduction to the world and is just overall pretty bad if you strip out the nostalgia and references.
This often helps. Vax and Vex... A for Adam and E for Eve. But to be fair this was a running joke for most of campaign 1, so we're talking about hundreds of hours of content in which people got that confused. At one point they actually had shirts made... pbs.twimg.com/media/CPpGS8bUsAAHvuU.jpg

Episode 3 is gonna be a wild reaction i can tell 😭
Reinhart is from Overwatch. Matt who GMed the game is what's his name the cyborg cowboy.
Reinhart's voice actor has been on critical role before and played D&D with Matt's mom in the 80's
Yes, best to keep your eyes at Sylas... as long as you can.
Quick Dragon course from a D&D DM:
10 colors of dragons, called Flights.
Green is still poison but Brass is now sleep/fire cause poison is evil, I guess.)
There are also the Gem Dragons that are associated with Planar travel and Dreams and stuff.
Loved your reaction! Is such a fun show.
Fun fact: the woman who voiced Lady Briarwood is the same woman who voiced Azula in The last Airbender.
Love the video ABI Nation stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
15:00 If you want to see a rather short but imo beautifully animated adult vampire show, then I can really recommend giving Castlevania a try. The show has 4 seasons with each 4 to 10 episodes. They are also working on a sequel show right now.
Percy's fandom nickname is No Mercy Percy and for a good reason.
In D&D most magical shape-shifting let's everything you wear meld into your new form.
Traditionally the metal dragons are good and the chromatic ones are evil
Of course this is in DND, the show can do what it wants to stretch the rules, same as any DM can.
The end titles music is actually an instrumental version of "Your turn to roll", a song the Critical Role gang wrote and performed for their second campaign. The same theme, if you listen carefully, is reprised loosely in the main titles and in the epic score during the dragon final fight in this episode. Here's Critical Role official "making of" video, if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/v681w8OMxzs/w-d-xo.html
funfact: Grogs burbs... thats Vex'ahlias Voice Actress :)
"Is this a troll dick?" O.O
As for dragons, there are 10 standard ones, and they all behave differently in general.
And most use different elements
When I forst heard David Tennant was cast i was delighted, then I found out who he was playing and was saddened lol. I knew his time would be too short
FIY, the babe on the painting is not a dragon lady, it's a tiefling ;)

I'm pretty sure the Reinhardt that you confused with Krieg is the big armor boy from Overwatch.
Darin De Paul, the voice of Reinhardt in Overwatch, is also in LOVM, he plays Stonefell.
They recently came out with a book called "Kith and Kin" that tells the twins back story, and the audiobook is narrated by the actors who play them.
Reinhardt is a character in Overwatch.
Depends on how you look at it. Whoever wrote the book was probably just penning verbal histories. Often those were told in poems to help them being handed down properly, to avoid the "telephone" affect.
Basically, whoever wrote the book probably didn't know what it meant any more than Vax or us.
The best way to remember the twins names is "VA for MAle, VE for FEmale"
mAsculine and fEminine are better, since the vowel sounds are actually similar.
Abi, you are adorable, lol. More D&D!
There's good ones that are metallic, but they're not relevant to this particular story.
mooooooooooooore
8:02 “I knew it was somebody…”
She cracked the case folks!!! 😜
If you like the twins, you might enjoy the novel Vox Machina - Kith and Kin. It delves more into their backstory and recounts an adventure in their younger days. Liam and Laura voice their own characters in the audio book.
#thelegendofvoxmachina ❤ your #reaction
Welcome to the world of critical role!!!!
Sylas could explore my guts this way 🤤🙈
Fun memory aid for Vex and Vax, A is for Adam and E is for Eve 😆
worst mnemonic.
Vax uses an A like Adam, Vex uses an E like Eve
mAsculine and fEminine are a better mnemonic. The vowel sounds are actually similar. "Adam and Eve" is pretty stupid.
