  • Connoisseurs of contemporary old-time music will recognize Nokosee Fields, Reed Stutz, and Ryan Nickerson for their individual styles and powerful performance on their respective instruments. The collaboration between these three has led to an exciting wall of driving melody paired with rock solid back up rhythm. Each has devoted many years listening to and absorbing the old time musical traditions of North America, inspired particularly by the sounds and rhythms of the music’s earliest recordings. With a love for the old ways of playing and an inescapable desire to push the boundaries of the music, they deliver a fierce take on what makes the music pop.

Thank God I ran across this video!! Absolute perfection!! This is exactly how these old tunes were meant to be played! Notice they're not played at break-neck speed like so many fiddle players have a tendency to do. I'm 77 years old, born and raised in Nashville, TN. In the early 1950's, my family started going to a square dance by Ralph Sloan in little community called Morrow Haden (just outside of Nashville). It was in an old school gym where my mother graduated from the 8th grade around 1925 or so. This, of course, was long before Ralph put the Tennessee Travelers together and started dancing on the Opry. My daddy was a fiddle player from Texas, my mother played guitar, my Aunt Lena played mandolin (Gibson F4). I played fiddle and mandolin too but, dancing was what I truly loved. I've danced in competition against Thomas Maupin and his brother Ollie. I have been to just about every festival there is with music and dancing. I've been around fiddle music all my life and I've seen and heard the best of the best. All of this is to say that Nokosee is one of the best I have ever heard! The version of Sally Ann Johnson (the second tune) in this video is pure perfection!! You can't play it any better than what you are hearing here!! This is gold! His backup is pure Heaven as well! The banjo and guitar work is also as good as it gets! Their timing is a delight to the ear. It's like a metronome! It hits that spot that, if your soul is al least a hundred years old and, you love old time fiddle music, you will know what I'm talking about. Do yourself a favor and find anything you can by Nokosee Fields!!!

Nokosee Fields is one of the absolute best fiddlers I have heared in my 76 years. He’s so smooth in a variety of genres, old time, blues, bluegrass and probably many more. I have been around the great ones in my life as a violin maker, and I believe he is right at the top.
Great bowing, super rhythm. Smooth in every aspect of the violin.

Nokosee lights up the room when he smiles more. He lights the stage on fire when he plays. First ran into him on Deepend Sessions with Steam Machine. Guy is super talented!! Trio musicians are top notch and will go far!!
