  • Updated some parts on the The Vortex.
The rear assembly including a new rear differential make up the biggest changes.
    STL Files are available here:
    1) cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadge...
    2) / ringoton
If you don't want to buy the model (STL file), please write a nice comment and I am sure we can agree on something else :)
This will not be the last technical update. I still want to improve the following parts:
    - Shock Mount (currently shocks are upside down)
    - Bearing mount for tires (only using one bearing per tire, but want to change to 2 per tire)
    - Gears still exposed to environment (design proper enclosure)
    Comments are welcome

Looking good! How did the exposed diff fair in the car park?

Because the track of the tires is so wide, hardly anything gets caught up in the diff... However serious off-road terrain is obviously not possible.

Damn the turning speed on the vortex looks amazing! Especially considering that its entirely 3d printed (I guess with ~20% infill you can make it pretty light and with the vortex being wider than it is long it kinda helps with this. Also will filliping the shock mounts the right way do anything? Like aren't they just springs that absorb impact? - im new this lol
Also do you have any tips when it comes to actually designing an rc car? Whats your design procces?
Im currently trying to make and design one myself with an Arduino as a hobby for basic robotics projects Like line followers and room mappers. This is my first time trying to design an rc vehicle and by the looks of it you kind of know what you're doing unlike me haha. i just find it soo hard to figure out where each component should go; like where to put the esc's and motors (im using those red h-bridge esc's and those cheap yellow gear motors). As well as making mounts for them.
    great work btw :]

Most of my prints had an infill rate between 70% ~100%. A lower infill rate would probably also be sufficient.
There are two reasons to flip the shocks (1) Reduction of unsprung mass (dampers/oil reservoir is above spring) (2) apparently better for damper dynamics.
If you are using CAD you can play around with the layout. Otherwise, it is a lot of trial and error… With each iteration it will however improve a little 😊
