Shit Joey make more of his YT videos then his appearances now. This was his way of milking whatever he could. Prolly asked for a bigger payout to gain as much competition money as he could and they didn't want to set a precedent that the eaters can decide the pay. Its as simple as that really.

@@Spoon101 Retirement is usually something that comes when you can no longer keep it going. So the person gets defeated by time. As things stand right now Joey is still a contender, but is not allowed to compete. That will, and rightly so, make people think about who ever wins as 2nd best. If Joey had given up on pro eating, people would have accepted that he is out of the game and thus someone else would now have to take over his mantle. Alas, that is not the case at all. You cannot disallow the nr.1 and expect people to accept your new nr.1 as valid. They have to let Joey either retire or get beaten. That is how ALL competition works. The people will not accept this pretend win.

I don’t think Matt has even been in Nathan’s for quite a few years now. He’s nearly abandoned his TH-cam channel, for that matter. Not sure what’s happened to him.
Sadly no, he left Major League Eating in sometime 2021 ,but he's still uploaded his videos at occasion. IIRC, he signed contract with TGI Fridays so that he was able to create his own signature Stonie Bowls.

I feel sorry for whoever wins this year if Chestnut is able to compete next year. Because when they introduce Chestnut, he'll get a LOT bigger reaction. And a lot of people's reaction to the champ will be "Who cares?" Unless the new champ breaks the record, that is.
Winner only ate 58 dogs this year. Not even in Joey's league. The woman's winner this year was 9 time champion Miki Sudo with a total of 51 dogs. She was only 8 dogs from beating the men's winner this year.
I’m not sure if the bookies are allowed to do apply a “rule 4” to any winnings because Joey Chestnut has pulled out, but a Rule 4 covers the situation where a horse is withdrawn from a race, the odds for all bets placed on remaining horses are adjusted to account for the non-runner

Joey took over because they kicked out Kobayashi. Still don't understand how people can be upset Nathans won't let him compete when he is signed to another company.
Because if you believe Impossible foods is in ANY way competition to Nathans then you are as dumb and out of touch with their place in food overall as they are.
Agreed, I don't get all the moaning. Any competitive event has someone that dominates until the next best comes along and replaces them. You don't hear people moaning that they are no. 2 because someone previously was better.
Funny how no one made a frickin peep when they banned Kobayashi for the EXACT SAME REASON! It's the only reason Chestnut has as many as he does. Kobayashi was the only real competitor to Chestnut and they kicked him to the curb. Kobayashi would have won a few more.

Its not like this has never happened before Kobayashi was the guy before chestnut. Kobayashi would not sign an exclusive contract and he was banned thats the way it goes. Lord knows how many times chestnut would of lost to molly if she signed with major league eating.

I actually worked for Pepsi for 10 years and they are very lenient for employees. I fished 4 BASS tournaments that was sponsored by COKE while I had stickers on my boat for PEPSI and a PEPSI employee. They were donated 3 checks after those tournaments as well

5:24 Have you ever heard of the Rule 4 in betting when a runner pulls out (Non Runner) the percentage of that runner get distrbuted into the other prices so even if you got higher odds a rule 4 % deductions will be taken from your initial price so you wont be getting better odds.

LOL. No one's banning anything. It's an alternative which should help make the meat industry less wasteful and reduce the atrocious conditions of large scale factory farming and allow it to be a bit more ethical.
Is this the first year that competitive eaters, specifically chestnut were required to sign an agreement ? It seems , according to chestnut, that the competitive eating organization got wind of this event he has scheduled and wanted him to sign a contract that would violate the contract that he already signed.
Given your interviews with other competitive eaters and their experience with how corrupt the contests are, I don’t think this has to do with chestnuts greed… but more like corporate control.
I don’t think this is the first year. That’s why kobayashi stopped participating over decade ago. He didn’t want to sign contract I believe. But now they are going to have their own hot dog contest later this year to renew their rivalry.
Competitive eating has always had weird contracts, LA Beast has talked about it a couple times.
So essentially they made the decision to make it impossible for anyone else to be accepted as nr.1 in the near future. It was already kinda impossible because Joey is so good, but now it is literally impossible. Joey will still be considered nr.1 no matter who wins. Too bad they chose to ruin their own competition.

Any bets placed on the remaining competitors once Joey has been withdrawn will be subject to a deduction in accordance with Tattersall's Rule 4 based on the win price of Joey Chesnut at the time of withdrawal. So, it’s not like the bookies are just going to be stuck paying out thousands, they obviously prepare for these things.

This is like when the WWE decided to end the undertakers Wrestlemania streak in 2014, the next wrestlemania in2015 the buy rights were down 25 to 30 %. People tuned in every year to see the taker put another notch on his winning streak. We all wanted him to go 25 and 0. But Vince was a jealous sort and the thought of anybody out shinning his main event ( the wwe title) was unthinkable. So boom.
This is the same thing Joe is the contest, Joe put butts into seats, Joe brought Note-oriety to the event. Joe was or in some ways became bigger than the contest. He was the headliner, he was the main event. His constantly promoting the contest was the engine that gave it national attention. So without joe being there buy rights will be down 25 to 30 % no questions. Sometimes the company needs to swallow their pride and know where to invest money to.

Afterall the keywords were..number of times people can enter these big competitions. This isnt the only eating competition and..Major League Eating lists at least 50 competitors..not all 50 of those competitors are competing at Nathans. Dont forget the qualifying which decides who is in the event.
