As a (former) Swedish ranger officer (Long Range Reconnaissance) I traveled extensively in the former Soviet Union's different countries, among them Ukraine.
Back then it was still the cold war, the Warsaw Pact against NATO. I wanted to know more about the countries, the people living there and get a general idea about things.
My then girlfriend was from Ukraine, and together we visited Crimea and toured the countryside by bus. I met some wonderful, generous and kind people. There are even people from Sweden living there in Gammalsvenskby, a former village that is now a neighborhood of Zmiivka in Beryslav Raion of Kherson Oblast, Ukraine. Since then Ukraine has a special place in my heart.
I was a bit "surprised" when Russia invaded Crimea and that they got away with it. Now, in April 2023, there is a full scale war between Russia and Ukraine. The democratic world is under attack and I will do my share to help. My walk will end in Lviv and I'm looking forward helping the Ukrainian people as a volunteer.
I will upload videos when I have internet connection. You can also follow me on Facebook: "Walk for Ukraina".
    Slava Ukraini.
