This is more than just a commercial. It totally respects the original film and is an epilogue that dovetails flawlessly with the original. To my mind, what makes this so special, so emotionally compelling is the casting of Henry Thomas to reprise Elliot as an adult with his own family.
You personally described this for what it was: a loving, respectful epilogue; Spielberg himself has even confirmed this to be the official sequel to the original movie!
Yeah, it's like they just wanted an excuse to make this E.T project. I've watched it three times and I still don't know what Xfinity even is. It's the TV thing?
It was so well done, that it is so normal to put on the tv and watch internet, you wouldn't think it was a commercial at all. And it is paying off. 12 million views on TH-cam. Well Done!
As a big time fan of E.T., I just know that this is the best holiday commercial ever in the history of television. This commercial is as magical as the feature length 1982 film. This will be timeless and it never gets old whenever it comes on.
This commercial took me right back to being 6 years old in 1982.. Only now as an adult, o can see and appreciate all of the amazing life lessons that ET had to teach us about friendship and love.💜.ET and Elliot went from screams of fear when they first met , to loving each other as best friends . That's pretty deep. . I always knew there was something so special about ET.. now I can see exactly why. Thank you for this amazing film. It truly does justice to the original 💗
I WANT A SECOND PART OF "E.T."! The Reunion in Part 2. Yeah i know,im 48yo but the 1. E.T. from 1982 Movie is for all Mankind,it fits straight to every Heart. Happy Holidays for all of you ...Outhere...
Best Christmas commercial ever! this brought back a lot of memories as a kid wow The funny thing is after I seen this commercial being that I am a sound technician I played this on the concert system 130,000 Watt a side for Adamson Rig, I played the in flight song damn all most brought me to tears LOL and believe me you felt it. it was freaking awesome cheers thanks for doing the commercial that was fantastic
I totally lost my shit. I cried so hard. I saw this movie at ten, and its always been one of my favorite. I just now saw the comercial and it was so great to back there for a few minutes. Damn Xfinity for making me cry like a 10 year old. LOL
P.S. Watching a grown man the same age as me hugging a puppet alien that resembles the loved one as a dog or cat etc. with emotional background music....just gets me. I always tear up on that and I'll never be the same. Thank You all for creating this and bringing this back to life. P.S.Please do NOT remake Jaws. Unless it's a commercial like this. Peace out! : )))
Just like the original movie, this exceeds the notion that this is just a commercial. This is another emotional driven phenomenon that's just off the charts and goes out into the depths of the universe which ultimately connects all of humanity since we are apart of the universe and the universe resides in us. We are stardust.
I got emotional & goosebumps when I watched The commercial. I feel slightly old because E.T came out in 1982 I was born 1988 so 7 years later I was born and grew up watching E.T I had the stuffed animal of E.T and movie on VHS Lol such a great movie
Oh shit whenever whatever whenever the time went 38 years back this iconic movie theaters all over the world worldwide and nationwide it was predicted to be only phenomenal in many ways for future years to come wow.
At 10:55 there's a second picture on the right and it's from the original film of where it's the Halloween scene with his older brother , Elliot and E.T as a ghost
I love this short film with E.T. and Elliot together again❤️❤️because they have a deep friendship and love each other..🌈🌈 I love ❣️Henry Thomas❣️ and I love, love❣️E.T.❣️ who is adorable and really sweet and my favorite alien in the world😘😘🥰🥰
Everyone that worked on this is Awesome Pawsome! In return I gave you my payment through my tears watching this. Hell Yeah! Yes I cried as a kid watching this on the big screen back in 82 and as a grown adult I teared up once again watching this 4 minute commercial. You made this and my reaction was total nostalgic, fond memories, passion, and yeah it teared me up and tears came out of my eyes and I felt like a kid again remembering those fond memories of E.T. and even eating E.T. Peanut Butter Cereal and watching Saturday Morning Cartoons and going out to play wearing a ball cap with sun glasses and fingerless gloves with a backpack full of snacks on my Team Murray Dirtbike riding with my brother and friends riding in the neighborhood looking for shit to play with, make, and explore. Sigh....Yeah....Thank You! A++++ Everyone making this is...totally Cobra Kai Material and knows how to sweep the leg! lol : )))
This is already in my status WhatsApp one hour ago... and bingo! All those contemporaneous relatives from my childhood are "reconnecting". Fabulous idea ❗❗
I was in my late 20's when the original came out & fell completely in love with Henry Thomas. I kept wondering what he would be like at 30 & I must say, I have not been disappointed. He's still a doll!
I went to elementary school with Henry. He was a great kid and while yes, he is acting.. his character Elliot was still very true to his actual personality. We went to John Glenn Elementary within East Central ISD outside San Antonio. Us classmates didn't see him as anything but Henry when we played King of the Mountain but the lower classes k-2 only understood Elliot....lol, that would make him a little crazy trying to explain. Good times...what a sweet comment to read that brought back some great cherished memories. Thank you....
i am 19 and i am OBSEESSED with e.t. i have everything from him like jewelry EVERYTHING. he stuck with me through my childhood and seeing this commercial made me straight up cry! if i ever saw just the puppet i would pass out from fangirling lol
They could've attempted a feature length sequel and, most likely, ended up disappointing everybody with the results. But this 4 and a half minute commercial works remarkably well, and it just might be the best way to make a sequel of sorts to a much loved classic like "ET." Never wanted it before, but now I kinda hope someone does something like this to show how Roy Neary made out with the aliens after "CE3K" ended.
Realistically, Drew would’ve been *very* expensive to get hold of for this commercial. It would be cool to see her, Elliott, and Mike together with E.T. again someday.
@@richerDiLefto I'm sure she would have been expensive but it's hard to believe she would've said no if asked. At the very end they should've showed her pulling up to the house looking up saying "no way" in awe.
Funny how the marketing team for Xfinity is able to make a commercial that is more respectful and pays more of an homage to the original than Lucasfilm/Disney could with their huge film making team and budget.
Got here because of it. I have a feeling they managed that genuine touch because they hired people as genuine as Jang for even small details. Loved the clip and loved the ship!
Try to catch all the easter eggs from Spielberg movies in here: there are references to Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones and of course E.T.
Every holiday since this was made I revisit this commercial...I have to say....I was good watching this until the damn original John Williams music started then I was absolutely DONE ...INSTANT NOSTALGIC MESS...😭😭
My idea for an Et-sequel is as follows: It takes place thousand years from now on a planet that is close to the homeplanet were the same species as Et lives.A spaceship from earth with human embryos has arrived and robots are guarding them. Ten years later all of the embryos has grown to be ten years old children and there are now twenty thousand of them. They live in a underground facility that the robots has buildt for them. But outside there are an alien species that are a treath to them. The robots tries to fight the omnious aliens of,but gets damaged and are out of capacity to function anymore. The children has to fight the omnious alien race of themselves. The manage to build a device that sends out a distress signal. The signal is picked up by the planet that has the same race as Et living on it. They decide to send a rescue ship to save the children. When they arrive they brings the children to their planet where they show them a valley that is green and has a lake and small houses for the children to live in. On of the Et's tells the children that one of them visited earth thousand of years ago. And that makes a happy ending :D
The problem was that it looked nothing like the original E.T. The way it moved and even the way it spoke, although I can appreciate the original voice isn't around today, the new version sounded almost comical in comparison. Not to mention some of E.T's new characteristics were not in keeping at all with the movie version of him. It looked like a plastic toy version of the original with unnecessary modern day technology thrown at it to make it look more cartoon than original E.T. The original looked far more genuine and far more life like and believable. Obviously they had the budget of a movie at the time but..40 years on almost, it could have been closer to the E.T that we all remember than the plastic looking version. The bedroom night time scene with Elliot was the closest they got. Loved the commercial other than the fact that it felt like we were watching E.T's long lost cousin rather than the real thing.

Just seeing E.T. and Elliot together again was everything. Loved it.
I agree with you I mean this is fantastic.
If you grew up in the 80’s, there’s a good chance that you were chopping onions while you watched this mini sequel.
My dad certainly was. And he never cries, so I'm glad this brought back his best memories!
Who in the world is cutting these darn onions? Man I can’t stop tearing up. Haha
I love this. May the kid in all of us never grow up and may you always keep the ET alive in your heart
Anytime I feel down and alone in life, I watch this commercial and instantly start smiling again and life gets better for a bit again.
Glad it does. :)
I cried watching the commercial 😭
I like how Xfinity didn't make it too much of a commercial just about themselves
Yeah, it's like they just wanted an excuse to make this E.T project.
I've watched it three times and I still don't know what Xfinity even is. It's the TV thing?
@@MrWiplazh I think it's something to do with internet and tv service.
It was so well done, that it is so normal to put on the tv and watch internet, you wouldn't think it was a commercial at all. And it is paying off. 12 million views on TH-cam. Well Done!
I feel they took their lead from British Christmas commercials which are similar.
I remember when we went to see ET as a family,it was the best time awesome!
Wishing he was real. Hoping!
So long ago...good to see these two together again...I miss the 80s 👍😀
Bring me to tears every time I see ET and Elliot together :,)
When Elliott sees ET.. ❤ best thing to happen in 2019
As a big time fan of E.T., I just know that this is the best holiday commercial ever in the history of television. This commercial is as magical as the feature length 1982 film. This will be timeless and it never gets old whenever it comes on.
A true classic. Reminded me of my childhood and made me cry all over again!!!!!!
I love how they are able to combine live puppetry with CGI
I want to combine practical effects and digital effects in my movies. Those two technologies create movie magic.
As things should be.

This isn't a commercial this is a short film/sequel to E.T
I like how the mom at first seems a little creeped out by this encounter. Sorta a call back to Eilliot's mom being scared when she first sees E.T.
I got so excited watching this... Please just make another movie

So cool I was convinced they used CGI given the day and age but they literally chose not in order to make it authentic to the original , awesome!

Maybe they'll re-release the original in 2022 for the 40th anniversary. I'd go see it again.
i was born in 1986. i know how u feel. i feel
old and love the movie. ❤️
I thought it was absolutely priceless ❤️
Excellent job. Made me cry like the old AT&T commercials did. Just a message saying to re-connect, and how nicely it was done!
I cried while watching the video. It is so touching. The characters, the soundtrack, the memories.
this is my favourite 80s movie and still is. from kg

E.T. is one of my all time favorites. This made me cry. So perfect. Wish it was longer.
the boy that played his son really looks like Henry!
And his daughter looks uncannily like Gertie (Drew Barrymore) 😊😊😊😳😍😍😍

For the first time ever, I can honestly say I could've gone for a 2-hour commercial.
If only Spielberg put that much love and attention in when he added a CG E.T. in the Special Edition version and reedited his original work... 🤨
That was 17 years ago! (for the 20th anniversay) Technology has moved on so far since then, so much easier and cheaper than it was in 2002.
i want more !
They should have also casted Drew Barrymore along with a husband and siblings...that would have been the 🍒 on top.
