  • Gajendra Moksha Stotram is a sacred hymn from the ancient Indian scripture, the Bhagavata Purana. It tells the story of Gajendra, the king of elephants, who was once caught by a crocodile while he was enjoying a leisurely bath in a lake called Trikuta. Despite his immense strength, Gajendra was unable to free himself from the clutches of the crocodile and realized the futility of his own power. In his moment of distress, Gajendra surrendered himself completely to Lord Vishnu, the Supreme God, and prayed for deliverance. Touched by his devotion, Lord Vishnu rushed to his aid, riding on his mount Garuda, and rescued Gajendra from the jaws of death, thus liberating him from the cycle of birth and death.
The stotram continues with Gajendra's heartfelt prayers to Lord Vishnu, expressing his complete surrender and devotion. Lord Vishnu, moved by Gajendra's devotion, arrives on his mount Garuda and releases him from the grip of the crocodile, granting him liberation.
The Gajendra Moksha Stotram is a profound hymn that illustrates the power of devotion and the boundless mercy of the Supreme Lord Vishnu. It teaches us the importance of surrendering our ego and seeking refuge in the divine in times of distress.
