Grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with Daniel Radcliffe & other movie stars

- On the morning of June 18, 2010, the first guests were officially welcomed into Universal Orlando's new Wizarding World of Harry Potter addition to the Islands of Adventure theme park by none other than Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, and, staying true to character, a bit of mischief from the Oliver and James Phelps who play the Weasley twins in the film series. Lines to enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter on its first official open day stretch outside the park and into nearby Universal CityWalk.

Can you imagine being only in 1st grade and you get to meet the cast of one of the greatest movie/book series ever and also get to from San Antonio,Texas to Orlando,Florida. If I would have died later that day I would die the happiest kid ever.

i have never wanted tobe alittle kid more then i do right now. those 1st graders are so lucky! everyone's just shaking their hands and dans going in there talking to a kid who lost their tooth, talking about which tooth it was. lol, he is so adorible.

Just came back from there. Was there on Wednesday, June 23rd. It was just fantastic and very surreal to be standing there. It felt like you were really on a movie set or an actual village. It was very very very cool.
It was strange though to have snow covered buildings and hot and humid weather at the same time. Ha Ha....very very hot conditions. It was crazy. Lines everywhere.
When it was the evening, it cooled off and was much nicer to walk through...
I will be there in 12 days...I can't wait! It's gonna be wicked!

I was a part of the first 300 people.. I was on the bridge looking right at the stage where the Today show was doing interviews... It was the second most amazing day of my life right after the birth of my son. My husband was the first one to notice Daniel getting interviewed and after we verified that it was him I started a chant of his name AND HE ACTUALLY TURNED AND WAVED!!!! Every girl in that line including myself almost passed out!!!! I love living in Orlando. lol

Yeah I did play the games :) although I only played 2 (Chamber of Secrets & Prisoner of Azkaban, both on PS2) I loved them. I just loved the freedom to explore the grounds of Hogwarts and all the missions and spells just fascinated me!

i am so envy , those kids didn't grow with harry potter and i bet they haven't read the books, i would be so excited and even crying if i was there, and those kids are like if nothing is happening, they are so lucky and they don't know it, i mean they got in the games with the actors , that is one of the best things ever,,, soo luckyyy

I still cannot believe I was there Wednesday night and this Friday morning! :) Def. a dream to finally be able to experience the area without having be a part of the press and just cut loose and have fun. ^_^

Lucky kids!!!!!! Oh man, I would have... I would have probably broken down crying if I had met Daniel... Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone was one of the first chapter books I ever read on my own, and I was about seven or eight years old, then. And it was the first fandom I joined after Pokemon and brought me closer to my life long best friends. The first time I visited this park, even without them, I broke down crying only first sight of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts and I was 18. When I was a child, I would often sit and wonder if there would ever be a HP theme park where we could go and experience the magic of our childhoods. I never thought they would do it and the day I found out that it was going to be built, I also cried and I jumped around out of excitement when I told my mother about it. Also going there again this summer now that I'm 21. Can't wait to revisit my childhood!!

So...did any of you know that originally it was in talks to be at Disney but Disney and JK Rowling never agreed to anything so Universal came in and took it over. I think it makes more sense with Universal though.
airplanegod I think it's where it's meant to be. Disney World charges an arm and a leg and with Harry Potter there, the price would have been astronomical. Universal is cheaper than Disney and much more fun!!

There's a video on youtube about the whole fight between Disney and Universal for the Harry Potter franchise. Incredibly, Disney shot itself in the foot by being too bullish and demanding. The meetings with Rowling were a disaster and she fled when she realized what she was getting herself into. She walked across town to Universal and they literally let her do almost anything she wanted. IF Disney had won, we would have NO Hogwarts castle and the park would be shoved into a tiny corner of Fantasyland because they didn't want Harry, Ron and Hermione overshadowing anything Disney-related! Unbelievable. And the Diagon Alley plans Disney drew up were a total joke. Worse, Disney has a brutal no-costumes or anything resembling a character" policy for people over a certain age so you wouldn't be able to wear your house robes! I'm glad they blew it. I know it would have been a disaster, just look at Galaxy's Edge if you don't think so...

@princessale210 I wasn't staying at the resort but I was there since 230 in the morning driving through the parking lot. They let us in at 510 am to park, and I was part of the first 300 fans!
I live 3 hours from Orlando, (Spring hill) I wouldn't wait that long to get in. Last time i went,it took enough time to get into the Spiderman ride,so i wouldn't wait that long to get into this. I'd rather wait until October.

You gotta see A Very Potter Musical or play the video games! Many details from the books appear in the videogames and musicals series and they weren't in the movies! You gotta see em if you prefer visual entertainment, or hands-on into the world of Harry Potter where you actually be Harry in the adventure, or a musical expirience with remarkable songs, because there's always another way back to Hogwarts...

Good for you! The PS2 version has the best gameplay, the other versions for the other platforms, although following the story, are completely different! Except the Xbox and Gamecube versions, which are the same as the PS2 one. However, the PC version of PoA isn't too different, but somewhat. After those games, every game is the same in all platforms except handhelds. So, the musicals?

@kasihandelohxoxo true I think they should make one in England as it is the home of Harry Potter. But I am okay with it being is Florida because I am in Texas. Now it is possible to go there.
@christenkittycat She was there for 2 out of the 3 press days, and there are many videos of her in the park, but due to school conflicts, she couldn't attend the grand opneing.
@mrssarahradcliffe AMEN. I got to see them up close while they were riding Flight of the Hippogriff, but I didn't get to meet them and I was there since 230 AM. They didn't even seem REMOTELY excited. I was there hunny, you can't fool me into thinking that they were SOOOO happy. Regardless of how happy they were, I can guarantee you that I would've been happier then all of those kids COMBINED. Besides, the only reason they even went was because their teacher entered them. WHOOP TI DOO
Yeah! After PoA I stopped playing them, because they lost their 'open world' kind of gameplay once GoF came out on PS2, it was all about the battles with the death eaters and wasn't about exploring the world or learning new spells :/ as for the musicals, tbh they're not really my thing, although I will check out a couple of videos! :)

@kasihandelohxoxo That's absolutely true. I really have to go there no matter how far away it is, but it would have matched much better if it had been in England. And it would've been much nearer for me :). It's only there because Florida / America is so popular and they think they'll gain more money. But in Scotland it would've been like it had truly existed there the whole time.

England isnt always dark and gloomy, they have sunny days too, and its not always damp and rainy, its just like any other day. The only reason it is so dark and gloomy in the movies is because it adds to the overall feeling of the story of harry potter and his life in england

@Gumby694 yeah it makes me angry that they didnt even know who the characters really were, I think it mightve been more fitting for maybe a class of graduating seniors to go up because they have spent their life with all the books and movies, and could probably appreciate it a little more
