    Thank you so much for this video, Rupert; I'm on my feet, applauding! I absolutely loved how you expressed your answer regarding the question about Jane's freedom, or lack, thereof. This is in absolute agreement with some of the teachings of Neville Goddard, from "Feeling Is The Secret." With regard to this issue, Neville stated: "You will rise believing that you are a free agent, not realizing that every action and event of the day is predetermined by your concept of self as you fell asleep. Your only freedom, then, is your freedom of reaction." When we know ourselves as Self, we have that freedom--just as you expressed; that Jane's only true freedom occurs when she knows herself as Mary. God bless. Great work. You are a blessing to the "world." 🙏🏻

    Decades ago Neville Goddard explained this same subject of Consciousness/Awareness as Perceiver/Perceived/[act of] Perceiving that was itself explanation of Father/Son and Holy-Ghost but since it was a translation of some religious beliefs, not many people gave damn to his teaching, I hope Mary and Jane from Rupert's analogy will awaken more people.

      Neville was a great man. He's often the "gateway" into manifestation, as its practical for Jane in the dream to chase after material objects. His later teachings expand upon non-duality but not many people pay mind to it, only chasing after the material goods. It's a wonderful paradox that when you realize your true nature, pure unconditioned love for awareness and being, that manifestation is easy, effortless, and of course, eternity and limitless potential resides within you.

    Rupert is the best. Many times told, seemingly simple but complicated to really GET.
    The Paradox being Jane should not be told she has nothing to do.
    But apparently she has nothing to do.
    I felt, after many years a more COMPLETE understanding today.
    However we feel and understand what is true we do need ( Jane ) to do something ( work )
    to find our way home. Certainly that is my experience.
    In hope it may help at least one other.( If I tell this ) I have been in serious spiritual search for at least 15 years ( 57 now ) I certainly feel I am making progress ( when I remember who I really am ) ( not as easy as it seems, to remember ) However for the record I exist with deep regret for the MESS I made of my life and continued sadness and regret for the mess it is still.
    I try hard every day to be better, to find a way to make things right. Even just to have a good day. To be the best dream character I can be, yet much of the time it is very difficult and feels
    hopeless. However after every setback ( can be almost daily ) I try and remember who I AM
    and start again. Thank you Rupert. Peace and Love

      Graham Jane only has to be. Jane is like a seed, what she truly is is a flower. However, she doesn't know that yet. The seed will naturally become what it's suppose to be, she doesn't have to do anything but be what she is. The path of your life is only just a small part of the process that that seeds goes through in order to become the flower. Knowing that you are already the flower means that you do not need attach to this process of becoming, but instead watch the unfolding of the flower. Your life is perfect the way it is from the eye of the divine, your true self. if you can see what you were, and what you will become, you will understand that the things in your life is the way they should be. If it were any different you would not become the flower. We are always in the process of moving out, and coming back into ourselves. Exhaling and inhaling. Watching ourselves become seed to flower, this is our existence, our state of being.

    • @ananda224
      @ananda224 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@usr909 We are always both awareness and the dream character. Awareness is like a still and unchanging pond. The ripples in the pond is time-space, physical experience, dream character etc, without those ripples awareness cannot turn back on itself as it does not have something relative to it to know what it is. It can only know what it is by comparing itself to what it is not, what it is not is the illusion of our physical experience, which are the ripples. The ripples are nothing but a movement within awareness, the dream character experiences only a limited part of the pond in stages as it moves to the edge of the pond and dissolve back into the pond. What the dream character is always experiencing is it's divine self or the pond, however it doesn' t know this since it can only experience limited states of itself due to being limited to one part of the pond in it's journey moving to the ponds outer edges. However, all of this is really an illusion, the eyes of the ripples are always the eyes of the pond moving over itself. You can actually know this by going into yourself and observing the changes within you, the changes of our physical experience are those ripples, however the spaces in between the changing ripples is what you are, you only have to let go of the attachment to the ripples and see those spaces, if you are able to come into this than you will know what you are which is divinity.

    Very interesting, the story about "Be as you are". David Godman, who edited Ramana Maharshi's teachings into the book "Be as you are" had an identical experience when he was a young man in Oxford, while in a bookstore the book "The Teachings of Ramana Maharshi" literally fell into his lap from a bookcase. After that he has been a devotee of Ramana's teachings.

He later asked the clerks about the book, they said it wasn’t their’s, they didn’t stock it. This teacher later met David Godman in Tiruvannamili. This other teacher and Rupert are both legitimate, no doubt, but the similarities in these stories seem suspicious. Or maybe Sri Ramana just really likes to find people in bookstores.

      That's a genuine illustration of Jung's synchronicity because it's not just an ordinary coincidence but a meaningful one. Then about three days later, I returned with the intention of buying it and 28 years later I'm still meditating.

    When you think about it, this also explain oneness. When Mary dream of Jane in Paris, everything Jane experience is from Mary's mind. The chair in Paris, The guy she met, the food she eat, it's all made from Mary's mind. Can anything from Mary's dream not be of her own imagination ? No. It's the same here. Everything we perceive, experience, from the blade of grass to the biggest mountain is all from the ONE consciousness.

      You know, I'm not sure if Rupert intended it this way when he used the names, or perhaps it was done unconsciously. There is actually no separation of Mary and Jane,
      what they are is MaryJane, Because without Jane there is no Mary. There would be no existence. Jane is existence, she is love manifested, the experiential part of Mary. The part that allows the divine to experience itself through associating ideas to a state of being. Though Mary is love, she can only know what love is through Jane as Jane tells Mary what love is. Jane is the one who is experiencing Mary. What we call from this state of being as love
      is the part of the Divine that pulls awareness into existence, it's a desire or will to want to be or to exist. Jane at the level of the human experience is a shadow of a more truer state of being, it is what keeps Mary "alive" in a sense. She is like Mary's beating heart, they both are eternal. The eternal unchanging stillness of of awareness, and the eternal changing movement of existence. Rupert's analogy of the ball being squished then naturally come back into its original form is the cycle of existence. The movement of the ball coming into its original self is what Jane is, this allows the divine to know that it exists, aswell as to experience itself. The best way to see it is as a relationship rather than Mary and Jane, this relationship is the key to what everything is all about.

    As Jane is dreamed by Mary she can not act. But for Jane it seams she does act; in fact Jane is the dreamed Mary who put herself asleep. So Mary does all and Mary does nothing but thinks she does all. Both at the same time,... All is the same entity. That means you yourself know all and act as if you know nothing.. That's amazing if you can do that! . And that feeling of missing something inside makes you want to wake up from your own dream although you are not aware that you dream yourself!! Because if you know you are awake! Haha what a splendid game 🤔🙄😉😳😊😅😂💎💎💎

    Quite interesting. Over quite an extended period, say the last eleven years, I've been quite committed to Self Inquiry resulting in the growing freedom and peace that Rupert so frequently refers to. Yet my dreams, which I almost recall so vividly, frequently manifest an inner chaotic state, one in which I so often find myself in the same place(in this case, UCSB in Santa Barbara) where I'm stuck and so concerned that I won't see my parents who live in the San Fernando Valley, where I grew up and they are worried about me, esp. my late mother. This actually occurred 52 years ago when I was almost 20 and ended up dropping out of the university. It was a very troubling period in which my parents so eagerly wanted me to drop out of school and return home which I did.

      Sounds like some unresolved emotions have been brought to the surface to be processed and dissolve. Self Inquiry can do that. The dream state is a good place to process unresolved emotions. Best to let it all be and play out as it needs to heal. ;)

      Lotussparkle This could be true(about processing of the dreams) but I see the inner chaos as the flip side of my increased outer sense of peace and with that much less reactivity to the external world. So I just allow the dreams to do their own thing whereas years ago would have considered it necessary to seek therapy.

    does that mean that if everyone is on different stages of spiritual development i.e. one is totally materialistic and one is totally devoted to enlightenment, it is not really their individual choice but it is God's choice? maybe God WANTS the materialistic person to experience more of materialism first, before returning back to his roots. Afterall, the reason for manifestation in the first place is God being bored and wants to explore infinitely all possibilities of life.
    If the above is true, why should we even bother to pursue enlightenment or spirituality? Eventually when God wants us to do it, it will happen anyway. We do not have a free will by ourselves.

    As Jane's mind is merely a contraction of Mary's mind so Mary's mind might also be merely a contraction of a mind of another Mary to which therefore first Mary appear as Jane to that first Mary. There might be endless succession of Marys an Janes - one within another. Nothing can prevent this, for as long the mind (consciousnes) is considered as fundamental, therefore real, duality (Mary and Jane) and endless successions - progressions and regressions - are inevitable.

    I've heard it once posited that contraction and expansion occur within the realm of time and space. And that time and space is the fabric of appearance (AKA the dream), since appearance and dis-appearance require time and space for both to occur. Subject-object was also posited, in the same breath, as another thread in the fabric of appearance. If that is the case, then wouldn't the relationship of dreamer to what is dreamt, a subject-object transaction, qualify as simply an appearance as well?

    • @kwixotic
      @kwixotic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, truth be told, it IS in fact just an appearance but to the one dreaming it comes across as all too real. And the same is true in the waking state until one finally realizes that appearances are just that and have no independent existence, an issue Rupert deals with in other videos.

Isn’t Mary God? Isn’t she all knowing? Why then create an awful world in order to remember “ Yes! Now I remember that I’m Mary the almighty and I don’t really need all this shit! “ Can’t wrap my head around it...

    I find another great way to think about this is Dorothy of Kansas dreaming that she is Dorothy of OZ . But, Dorothy of OZ is also the scarecrow, the tin man, the lion, and the wicked witch, and everyone else....even the yellow brick road. Yet Dorothy of OZ doesn't realize any of this.
    Now imagine if she did realize it. Imagine her saying the following.....
    1) I and my father are one. (YEP)
    2) What you do to others, you do to me. (YEP)
    3) You reap what you sow. (YEP)
    The (Jane/Mary) or (Dorothy of Kansas/Dorothy of OZ) explanation does open the mind, and allows one to make sense of some very difficult to understand teachings from traditional religion.

    I am Mary.
    I am Jane, disillusioned, sitting next to someone in a cafe who is reading a book from Ramana Maharshi (and is going to attend a retreat the following week) and I ask the person 'who is the person on the cover of that book?'. I have given up. I have surrendered with this longing in me. I have said to God, 'I have tried everything in the world'. And 'I do' realize that I said to God and the entire world of the internet at some point that it is not going to work. Send me... What can I do? Are there any other possibilities in the world?
    So outspoken, I, the Jane body and mind that I learned to be in an apparent physical world literally pour my heart out on the internet which apparently gets me in deep, deep trouble for the following several years. I become a hostage of he unknown even though no-bodies have ever dared to approach me - I mean, ever! "What is this? What is going on? God, please help me as this looks like a major trap. I am so scared and all I got is faith." Prior to that, in 1993 and already living in the USA I pulled a book from the shelf of a store that sells creative, "smarty-pants" kind of objects. The thick book was called "A Brief History of Everything" and it was sitting on the shelf right next to Albert Einstein's biography book. On the cover, there was this attractive man starring at me. Strange. Very compelled, I felt. I have a Psychology diploma that was abandoned in the drawer right after graduation. But no, thanks, I did not buy the book because it seemed overly intellectual. Besides, I was too thick and I am a slow reader. (I bought the tapes eventually out of curiosity and listened to them for entertainment).
    Now back to the cafe (this was year 2016, just returning to the USA after a long 6-year seclusion period in my home country, next to my old worldly parents) with the person who introduced me to the Ramana Maharshi embodiment of the present moment who led me to the crisp and clear realization that I am actually Mary. I have always been Mary. I am way more Mary than Jane. Mary is the true nature that has used Jane as one mundane, temporary identity. At the same time, if we imagine that there is such a thing as time, Jane's body and soul expresses Mary in the world by feeling this intense love, enormous faith, passion for freedom and drive to explore, an intriguing curiosity about existence and the unknown like a scientist in an emotional level -what has kept Jane going.

    Here is a little story description that further helped me understand: God (Mary) is the author of the story of life. Mary creates all these characters (us/Jane). So, she can experience the story herself (or why would an author create a story at all?) And, Because Mary loved us/her characters so much, she lets the characters in the story have their own story lines as they will. Because if Mary were to write or plan the whole story, her characters wouldn't get to experience any of it for and by themselves. She would've just been a puppet master. And being a puppet master is not love. And in this story, the Janes have their experiences but something is missing and thus they are searching. They know there is more. They are searching because deep down they know without the Author, the story writer, there'd be no story at all. And, through their search, they come back to Love. To the Author. They come back to Oneness/Mary. They come back to themself. But, it was Mary all along. The initial Author. Without Mary, there'd be no Janes. So, there's the author and characters but it's all the One.

    Jane has to play her part and do the sadhana.
    If everything is done by Mary then sadhana it is futile and no sense.
    Sri Aurobindo says:
    "If everything depends on the Divine intervention, then man is only a puppet and there is no use of sadhana, and there are no conditions, no law of things -therefore no universe, but only the Divine rolling things about at his pleasure. No doubt in the last resort all can be said to be the Divine cosmic working, but it is through persons, through forces that it works -under the conditions of Nature."

    WHY does the fact that you EXPERIENCE YOUR MIND AND BODY WITHIN CONSCIOUSNESS automatically mean that that consciousness CREATES the mind and the body? To me- experiencing your mind and body withing consciousness means that you can conclude that you are experiencing your mind and body within consciousness. Why does Rupert think it's self evident that you would conclude creative power? I hope this is true but Scientists think that the world of stuff is causally closed and an effect that is material (mind and body) must also have a cause that is material. They believe that because the theories that are based on that assumptions have the most predictive power. Please help me with this. :)

    • @kwixotic
      @kwixotic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's a case of Consciousness creating the mind and the body but instead thoughts, feelings, perceptions and what not arising WITHIN Consciousness. Scientists are no different from the rest of us; they presuppose the existence of independent objects in the universe "out there:" to be investigated and do so without reference to the one(themselves) having the Consciousness based experience of that which is investigated and so they derive mentally based observations/ findings NOT based on experience(i.e., seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching). Pure experience tells you nothing about the name of that object, only that you're having an experience of it.

    So Jane does have choice then? Spira says thoughts pop into existence and we have no control over them, I can accept that. But he also says we have no free will, when I disagree.
    E.g. When Rupert Spira pauses before he speaks he is seeing his thoughts and trying to choose which is the best one to take action on and then say it out loud. Or when he writes the words in his books he must choose which thought to take action on and then write on the paper. Therefore who is the action decider? It doesn't seem like there's the true self and the predetermined ego, it seems there's a third character then, the action chooser and taker. Otherwise known as our will. He still hasn't disproved this.

      Alice Raymond I think we do as Jane. The way I'm coming to understand it is this. As an analogy, If I go to sleep tonight and have a dream that I baked a cake and ate it and I enjoyed it. I smelled the cake and tasted the cake in my dream, etc. And then when I wake up, I remember my dream and all that I felt in it. So, I AS the dreamer experienced eating the cake, etc. And I, IN the dream experienced the cake as well. It feels like there were "two" of me. But really is only one. So, to answer your question, I think we do, but only within the dream of Mary. I'm no expert, this is just how I believe it is.
