  • Here we compare the new aluminium Scootopia 185cc cylinder kit for Lambretta with the original iron Innocenti LI150 cylinder and head.
This is the great 185cc conversion kit for Lambretta 125-150-175 (small block engines with 107mm con rod) by Scootopia. This is an economical, complete plug 'n' play alluminium cylinder kit designed to increase both the power and torque of your motor, but without making it a petrol-thirsty fire-breathing monster. You'll get an instant 10bhp+. Comes with full engine gaskets kit and studs!
Use this with a 22m carb and a Clubman exhaust and you'll have a great daily rider with enough oooomph to take you to rallies and for touring!
After buying a Lambretta LI150 and driving just a few kilometers, it was deemed necessary to strip the engine to see what was up with it.
This led to a journey full of surprises.

Ok for anyone thinking of getting one of these here's a story. My mate's SX150 blew up its 175 iron barrel back in the summer (Gudgeon circlip broke and smeared itself up the side of the cylinder) so we picked one of these up from Scootopia as I'm often in Weston on business and fitted it. It did take a bit of fettling on the piston ring gap but I think that was just bad luck with that particular piston. He ran it in for 300 miles at 40mph (on the way to and from IOW this year too which was a pain) and since then it has been really good. He has a full bodied SX150 with 22mm Dellorto and 42mil Clubman, gearbox unknown but it definitely ain't original, and this kit leaves him good for almost 70mph, I can only get fractionally faster flat out with my Mugello 200 (Piston Port) 28mm Delly and DJ expansion pipe running an original Pacemaker gears set up with a 17 front sprocket on a cutdown. So, overall if you want high quality finish and ease of fitting spend more money on something like an RT195 but FOR THE PRICE this is definitely a good piece of kit. Hope that helps someone

Had one of these and seems to be a common problem. The location pin on the piston breaks. And totally ruined the barrel. Probably better off getting a different piston before you fit it

One thing to note is that the piston (& bore) on the Scootopia 185 kit are 64mm and not 66mm as stated in the video.

Why is alloy better than cast iron? Cast is self-lubricating in addition to the 2T oil and very, very tough. Nikasil does wear but properly set carb mixtures on cast will see it go indefinitely. Genuine question.
