    Might be a good idea to leave some grass headlands for the whole season. Will give you a place to turn drills, sprayers, combines, and grain carts

    For many years we have taken grass land or hay land out with a tank mix that my field consultant came up with. Then we direct seed right in. We plant RR canola , that way you can still spray 2 morre times during the season. To get the grasses or alfalfa that come back. This usually gets a canola crop that is about 95% perfect. This leaves the field finish just about the same as the grass or hay field you had before. No need to worry about working after discing to get a seed bed created or loose moisture. I have been doing this for the past 15 years and successful everytime I did it this way . One year I really got behind to spray before the seeding . So I direct seeded right into the pasture (this time) and came in a few days later and spprayed the field . The pasture was by this time almosty 6-8 inches high . All turned out great

Im a farmer all my 34 years , it takes stamina ,guts and no glory to do this ,its not a money scheme like you think , its passion , integrity ,heart and soul comitment, seeing your granddads eyes tear up ,when he talks of the old days, they gave their all ,pushing 20hour plus days . If your not a farmer, then we dont care if you dont like us ,because ,son you will never understand anyways ,and you couldnt handle the pressure anyway, also its the only FREE, way of life left . Good job Mike , we understand , finally getting good rains by Eatonia Sask. Wish you some for your south farm.

    • @LJ-zp7ij

      We never plow pass april in the spring or before mid October in the fall because here in the central USA it can easily get 90’s in May till early October meaning that wet soil is gonna bake rock hard. That’s about the worst possible seed bed for corn or beans.

      @@crandonborth it's a little different in northern Canada, the more moisture in the ground the better the plow job, when it comes to breaking ground. After plowing pull a power harrow through and directly seed.

      @@crandonborth it varies from year to year, usually not a lot of humidity. Pop up thunderstorms but mostly only in the spring. Currently it's wetter than normal.

    Why is it that the grass soaks up the water and not the cultivated acres?

    • @deere7227
      @deere7227 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grass still growing takes up moisture. Also grass is essentially a notill field so natural holes - worms, old roots, etc

      @Amaranthian450 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deere7227 you can’t tell me that growing grass takes up enough moisture WHILE it’s still raining to make up the difference in being able to get a tractor across that field. Not a chance in this life. But to be completely honest I know the answer already I was asking a sarcastic question. The grass field has a higher organic matter level and more biology in the soil than the dead tilled land that farmers create and has a much higher water infiltration rate and holding capacity than a dead tilled field. Simple as that, but farmers don’t know how to use biology to work for them in their farming operation, instead they turn to chemistry to give their land and crop what they “need.”

      dont forget that the root system makes a massive difference in spreading the weight out and for traction . ( grass is not as slippery as wet ground ) .
      The 2 part is the "grass " is tight or more compact , as soon as you "work " makes it loose . You sink , it just turns to mud .
      thats at least 50 % of the difference, the other half is exactly what you guys are talking about with the plants sucking up the water , ect .
