  • The $10 bill may be worth five times as much as the two dollar bill, but they have a similar history... up until the ten's design change. See how these two pieces of currency compare in this fun history lesson from the producer of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary.

    I'd rather not horde any denomination, with rare exceptions for series/condition/serial. The $2 is my most used denomination by far. Long live Jefferson!
    As an aside, I somewhat hope that the $1 and $2 never change design. They've been the same for all my life, I'm sure I'll accept any redesign that may come their way, but there is some comfort in the 1920s-ish design that both notes retain. Plus the Declaration of Independence on the back of the $2 makes me feel like it's the denomination that celebrates America the best of all of them (mind, all the denominations do well to reflect American history and culture).

      You hardly get a $10, and when you do, it's never more than one of them because you'd get a $20. So not many people have too many of them. Just like the two!

    Whenever I see a panhandler I asked them if they want $1 or two. If they say two then I give them a two dollar bill. On the rare occasions where they say one, I will give them a presidential $1 coin and a $2 bill.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm... my guess is no, unless a print order that took place in October of 2022 was for a new series. As another video on my channel explains, the only way you get a new series year is if the Secretary of the Treasury changes, which requires a new signature and a new printing. I don't believe that's the case right now, so now 2023 bill. But I could be wrong!

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  ปีที่แล้ว

      It often smells different because it is new and unused! All currency would smell that way, but most of the time the bills have been circulated and lose that smell. Kinda like a new car smell... eventually it wears off but when it's new, it's great.

    Hey John why doesn’t the government promote two dollar bills to get them more used

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. They tried many times but people just wouldn't do it. The mindset is that it's a rare collector's item, and people just can't wrap their mind around the fact that it's regular currency. The perception has never changed, so the government has essentially given up promoting it.

      Yes, because you can get twice the value of the popular one-dollar bills for printing the same number of them. The problem is getting people to use them the right way. But I see yur point. There is still a demand, so they will print them as long as that's the case.

    Why do $10 bills (according to the treasury) have a shorter lifespan than $1s or $20s? Only the $5 bill has a shorter average lifespan than the $10.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great question, and one I don't know the answer to. I know more about $2 bills; this video was just a means of comparison but I don't know too much else about the $10. I can guess that the ones we have get used often, and thus they wear out. You could say the same about $1s and $5s, but there are so many more of them that it's likely each individual one gets used less than each individual $10 might.

    The $50 is more "rare" than the $10 in the last 30 years (and you do have a great video on that too...no pun intended). The modern BEP production runs three lowest are $2, then $50, then $10. The $100 is the world's reserve and more than half of those circulate outside the US.
