I am 69. I wear whatever I want. I have grown my hair long like I used to wear. I wear blue jeans every day. I wear what makes me feel good. I refuse to let society determine who I am and what I should wear. I will go to my grave looking good and blonde!!!! Lol. You go girl!

I really think the dress you showed hanging in the back of a door is gorgeous. That's the one I would wear to the wedding. I think the two dresses that you ordered may be too casual for a wedding, but that's just my opinion. I hope you enjoy the wedding!

Oh Patti, your are so beautiful in that red top you’re wearing so I think the red dress and kimono would be perfect. I, like you didn’t know I was 76 until I looked closely in the mirror around age 68. Until then I just assumed I looked like I felt, slim, cute and sexy, however the mirror doesn’t lie and it’s hard for me to accept. At some point I may stop being a blonde and may dress differently but I’m not there yet and not even sure I should be. I’ll keep my denim, leather, silk and capris and whatever makes me happy till then. Stay beautiful Miss Patti!

Oh you've got this! The blue dress on the right in the picture is my favorite for a beach-y wedding in what's probably going to be warm and humid weather. It's a beautiful color and the perfect backdrop for layering on some of your fabulous glass bead necklaces. Can't wait to see what you end up wearing.

I agree! I went from 61 to 80. My body actually hurts like it never has before. This pandemic is causing me to be even more sedentary than ever. It’s terrible!!

I can totally see you in a lovely soft cotton tea length dress. Kitten heels with a open toe. A lattice headband or a french roll if it's hot out and a soft summer shawl or wrap. I know you have a small pearl clutch. That's where I would head if I had a fun event to look forward to ---- you will rock that look.

I think that you are so gorgeous, with your blonde hair, tanned skin and baby blues, that you would look fabulous in the pink, tea length dress with the white frills on it, and yes, some white kitten heels! I think you need something more fitted, unexpected, sassy, young, fresh and fun! I also think that this covid crap has gotten you a little depressed. I'm so happy that you will be attending this wedding, and I think it's just what you need! And I think the only person that thinks you're old is you! Patti, Even before I saw the blue dresses, I thought choose light blue because blue would reflect your eye color! Plus, being at a beachside wedding, what better color than blue! You’re creative so I’m sure you will look lovely. Can’t wait to see what you’re completed outfit looks like!

I was yelling a lot of " that a girl's" at this post. I have been going to every online site to find something that didn't scream old lady but also would not make me look silly. NOT EASY. I love certain looks, but so few will work with a older body... I need some sleeves but not hot sweaters in the spring and summer. And no plunging low necklines for me anymore.
I vote for the lovely dress with the kimono on the back of the door. You would look fabulous in that. I think, sadly, you will not be happy with the China direct pieces. I tried something like them once and they were so badly made and cheap. So disappointing. Because that is a look I love. Perhaps someday those that market clothes will think of us older ladies that still want fashion and do not want to look frumpy.

I am 67 + my daughter got married 2yrs ago + I was adamant I didnt want a mother of the bride outfit. I opted for a cream crochet vintage midi dress with a peach long jacket. I felt lovely + not frumpy at all + it was a dress I had owned for years!

The turquoise blue dresses are really cute and could be “so dressy” with some accessories (scarves and jewelry), but I think the mauve dress with the kimono would be stunning beautiful on you. The kimono colors look so fresh, like spring flowers so perfect for spring wedding. Personally, I feel age is just a number and doesn’t mean giving up the styles you love. Oh Ms. Patti!!! I'll be 65 in July and it's true; you go to bed one night and wake up and you've become your mother or grandmother. Before my back surgery last June I could only stand up about halfway and I had to use a walker!!! I turned down the hallway, looked right into the big mirror and saw my Grandma!!!!! Back surgery was successful but with covid and cold Kansas weather I've been inactive and gained weight. I look forward to seeing the two dresses you ordered but I have a feeling you'll be wearing the dress with the kimono and you'll look lovely. I think being secluded because of the virus has made so many of us just feel blah. No matter what I do or wear, I can't get that pep back in my step. When the weather warm up I'll get back out to walk and hopefully lose some weight and get some energy back. Love you xoxoxoxo

I'm in the same boat! I'm 63 and have a wedding to attend in July. I have a layered outfit like your cruise dresses but mine feels too short now. I've seen some adorable layered tunic dresses on Pinterest that I'm going to try. I hope your blue dresses work out... they are lovely.

Patti, I have to be honest! I don't like either one of the dresses you ordered and don't see them as something one would wear to a beach wedding. I live in Alabama and love Orange Beach ~ It's my "go to" place several times a year! I think the dress and kimono would be lovely for the wedding.

Maybe a little belt so you have more feminine shape. 😏 ok, I really studied the 2 blue dresses. You are close but can do better. The left one looks likes a beach coverup. The right one a bit like a sheet. Go solid, prettier fabric and you will have it!!!

You will look stunning no matter which one you choose! My mother passed 10 years ago. I am putting together a slide show for what would have been her 90th birthday in a few days. While going through the photos, I was reminded of how glamorous she was until the day she died. She instilled in me a love of clothing, makeup, and home decor. You remind me of her.

I love the red with the kimono. They are beautiful, elegant, and look easy to wear.
I love the Kimono and think it’s perfect for the wedding. The dress looks lovely as well however I think the color is to bold for the event. Within the Kimono I see many lovely pastels. I would choose one of those pastels and buy a simple, solid pastel slip dress with spaghetti straps to wear under the Kimono. Wear your hair and make up as you have it today, it’s lovely!! Accessorize with a bold earring and cuff with strappy sandal and evening clutch. You would be a vision! Not to take away from the bride but to give her something to look forward to ❤️

I think that is a great idea too. The kimono is floaty and sheer and a lighter color of a slip dress would be perfect and your suggestions for accessorizing are spot on!!
I'm in my 60s, and was always told there are two colors to never wear to a wedding as a guest - red or white - which they said were colors that upstaged the bride. I have no idea if those rules still apply, but I can't get them out of my head after being there for decades. I agree that if the wedding is a beach setting in pastel colors, to honor that theme and color scheme with a pastel outfit.

Hi Patti: Oh, we can relate! I weighed just 105 lbs. for YEARS.
I started to feel age when I began gaining postmenopausal weight. At 51, while shopping for a gown for my daughter's upcoming wedding, I realized that the days of being able to wear ANYTHING, were over. In my head, I'm 23, even though I'm 70. Now, it's an enormous challenge to find clothing that's becoming, yet doesn't look as if you're, "mutton dressed like lamb". I have my grandson's Confirmation coming up..I need sleeves, and, I just haven't been lucky in my search for something to wear. Everything looks like it's for the very young girls. 😒 I love the dress with kimono, in case the ones you ordered don't work out. You're going to look beautiful, no matter what you wear! I ordered a couple dresses off a similar website, that I had never ordered from before
, and they looked like they were so me, very bohemian and funky. When they arrived I put them directly into goodwill. The material was sooo cheap shiny and slick not textured like it appeared in the picture😢. I was so sad. I hope your experience is better and let us know because maybe I’ll try them👍

That is very interesting as similar sites appear in pop up ads, here in England as well. I don't know if you have this in America but we have neighbourhood web sites onto which local people post various things for discussion. Someone posted a picture of a site advertising very similar looking clothes to the ones you ordered saying that they had ordered something and it hadn't arrived. Lots of women responded to this with similar stories stating that they either hadn't arrived or if they did the quality was awful. It became apparent that there was more than one site with different names but selling identical clothes. None of them were genuine. They had hijacked pictures from a bona fide site selling designer clothes that were beautiful, unusual and incredibly expensive. These designs were copied (badly) and were of very poor quality but it was almost impossible to get a refund. Sometimes the goods never even arrived and the site would simply disappear. The sites all appear to have been based somewhere in the Far East but they appear and disappear with amazing regularity. I hope this is nit the case here but it is worth being wary of buying items like this. Such a shame too as the genuine clothes look amazing!
This is two months later and I am wondering what became of your China order. I am not optimistic. However oh, I have a feeling if you spent an hour shopping through your own closet to create an ensemble and then possibly adding a shawl or kaftan you would be happy with your appearance. I only found you recently, and to me you appear to be a blend of Lisa Kudrow and my sister. Lucky you🌷😏

So many boutiques around there, you’d probably be more likely to find a kaftan style dress at one of those. I love the aqua color of those dresses.

I have started back watching you after being gone for a bit. Thank you for all your guidance with how to wear make up and what to wear , life etc. You are wonderful. As for what to wear to the wedding.... with this last year I say go bright springy and pastels. We all need some brightness in our lives. I loved the pictures of a floral long dress , or a floral skirt with a solid top. All of them looked like you. As for the dresses coming from overseas I like the one without the beige pickets (my eyes are just drawn to the pockets first). As for the dress that you have, it is pretty and I know it is stunning on you. But to me it is more fall colors and with all this covid , lock down etc I would go more happy , spring colors. I dress in what I feel comfortable in & I will never gravitate towards the older woman department. Sadly my husband, who is 10 years older than me, thinks I should shop in that department & cut my hair extremely short, stop coloring & no makeup. Not a chance, ever! You are such an inspiration !

Hi, When you first mention what to wear for the Wedding, I instantly thought light blue or white and something flowing, alot like you showed us you ordered!!
Of course about anything you wear, You can pull it off with accessories!! I know You have that, lol

Hi Patti, You would look beautiful whatever you wore. I would definitely go back to blonde hair though if you can. I have been struggling myself between blonde and gray. Blonde throws more light on your face though which I like. 💕💕

Hi Dear Patti. I LOVE the two new dresses you ordered to wear to your nephew's wedding (the colour is stunning and they're not too casual if you choose the right jewellery, shoes along side your amazing makeup) and I also love your backup little kimono and dress .... none of which look like what the Older Women's department would offer. I am 75 and have never given so much as a nano second to shopping in such a shop. What for? I think that those older women's specialty stores are on their way out anyway ... just the concept is so yesterday's thinking. I think to keep reading Vogue, Elle, etc. (to keep ourselves used to seeing new looks all the time), to watch TH-cam channels, to look beautifully groomed, to follow the same rules that kept us from looking skanky back in our twenties (they still apply), to be underdressed rather than overdressed and to wear a smile and Be Kind is all we need.
I couldn't find quite what I think is your style so I ask that you just take some inspiration from these photos to remind you of what is possible outside the Older Women's department. Ask if you and your style would fit right in on a photo page with these beauties (Y E S !!!) if you, for some crazy reason, doubt yourself. Trust yourself instead. If you feel good, you'll look good. Think of how many times you have noticed a woman who shone even though she wasn't the thinnest or the best dressed in the room so don't worry too much about whether the dress exactly fits what some would think to be appropriate for an occasion. Sometimes it is rather charming when it doesn't.

I think the one hanging over the door is beautiful! I would call that "dressy casual" just a step up from the beautiful ones in the picture. Since the wedding is early evening the one over the door fits that bill!! Dawn and Eli look just delightful!! Love and Hugs!!

I also have this problem about wearing what is the correct thing to wear for my age. For a few weeks now I have been wearing a different outfit in my closet. Then put it back in the closest ( after I washed it) with the hanger facing the other way .I really took a good look at myself all day long seeing if I should be wearing it or not. Also I put what I felt was not going to work anymore to a good will bag. Now to your question. I liked all three dresses . But the wedding being in May, I would go with something more light . I think you would look stunning in a blue. Not a total pastel but as a light teal. Then dive into picking out some of your beautiful necklaces, rings, earrings what ever. You could go darker with your accessories . Even a tan color as a accent color. I find it so hard to try and pick something my age that looks great. When you feel like you wish you was in your 40 or 50 and want to wear all that great stuff and it just does not work. ha Main reason I am purging my closet. Have fun at the wedding no matter what you choose. Life is to short not to have a fantastic time.
My favorite dress is the blue one that you ordered (pictured on the right, without the gold pockets). I think you would look elegant and stunning in that one. My second favorite is the dress/kimono combination. I would go with the one that feels the most comfortable.

Thanks. You are always a voice of sanity for aging. Yes it was hard to accept the body change. You are so honest. Time you give ideas for the rest of us who don't know how to be in fashion as we have aged.
