It was a fitting way to end the 16th World Swimming Championships (25m) on Sunday evening in Melbourne in one of the craziest races you might ever see!! 👀👀
The United States and Australia turned in identical times, and will share the world record at 3:18.98.
The Americans were represented by Ryan Murphy (48.96), Nic Fink (54.88), Trenton Julian (49.19), and Kieran Smith (45.95), while the Australians had Isaac Cooper (49.46), Joshua Yong (56.55), Matthew Temple (48.34), and Chalmers (44.63).

medals are given to the first 3 people to finish. Gold for first, silver for second and bronze for third. If there is a tie, minor medals may be omitted to keep to medals to the top 3. In this case, two teams tied for gold. Silver is omitted in this case.
Italy got bronze because they finished behind two teams, which is consistent with the practice of bronze being given to the third place finisher.
The only circumstances where there are more than 3 medal winners are when there are at least: 4 gold medalists (silver and bronze omitted), 3 silver medalists (bronze omitted) or 2 bronze medalists. in any case, a fourth finisher only gets a medal if they are tied with someone in the top 3.
