The WoW token means it will never bounce back fully. Outside of that, they could bounce back in ONE content patch if their leads developers were competent.
I just realized....a key reason behind player behaviour differences in WoW and FFXIV. WoW's world shrinks every time it grows; old content becomes obsolete, and new content almost fully replaces it. The world seems small and lacks the feeling of an actual world due to this, causing player focus to drift to the meta game. FFXIV builds upon itself, and gives the impression of a world much larger than the players, keeping their attention on it rather than the meta world you create after feeling like you've done everything there is to do. This is from the perspective of a previous 16-year WoW player with very little FFXIV experience, so take it with a grain of salt.
Not only that, but FFXIV builds a very good balance of letting old content be rewarding; not just with the drops themselves, but also with helping support new content. Example: I've just finished 5.0, and I was just looking up the Resistance questline (the ShB relics quests), and to go get that relic, you can go grind the new, super expansive zone...or you can actually just go back and do previous content in various ways such as old FATEs or old raids. Granted, not doing it in the new zone isn't efficient, but you have the option if you still enjoy older content, and it helps keep older content populated.
This got a bit long, but FF14's built-in permanent timewalking is as close to the gold standard of making MMO content evergreen as I know of. The stat/equipment scaling for level sync is usually flawless and the only real complaint is that it can allow for things to be easier, but that's what queueing at minimum iLevel is for if you thirst for the challenge. There is very little content in FF14 that you can't find ANYONE to do it with you in a reasonable period of time, and almost everything that would fall under that category is exceptionally obsoleted by later design decisions. Very _very_ little content is permanently removed after being added, with the notable exceptions being seasonal/crossover event content and the time-limited Unreal trials that are just for the endgame raiding scene. I can get rewards for queueing up to do any of the 77 dungeons in the game (and that doesn't count other instanced content like trials or raids), which is great for anyone sitting in queue as a DPS needing to get through a dungeon for their storyline progression. In addition to any bonuses for queueing, when any player in the party is in a dungeon/trial/etc. instance for the first time there's a notification that everyone gets a bonus as an encouragement to get the first-timer their clear. This encouragement to do old content for rewards or to level alternate jobs on the same character means you have lots of experienced players being deliberately mixed with new players during their progression climb. Most players are happy to explain mechanics to sprouts (new players) because the experienced players don't get their old-content bonus until the instance is complete. It's much more efficient and effective to just teach the first-timers how to do the important mechanics and clear the instance than to make a big fuss over wipes and votekick the first-timer or themselves ragequit the run and get nothing. Abusing votekicks to unfairly remove people for being new will also get the GMs on your case and unlike WoW they _will_ intervene promptly if they see a reason to. The same goes for toxic behaviour both in the instance and afterwards. There is a very real incentive to not say anything at all if you can't say anything nice or at least in good faith. This doesn't mean you can't criticize people but you have to be respectful about it. Everyone's playing a game here. FF14 also tells stories of working together to surmount challenges, of learning and growing, of _forgiveness_ for mistakes and flaws. It's even written right into the lyrics of one of the most important songs of the game: _"Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after"_ Players are encouraged to help each other in both the design and the story. I'd also be remiss if I talked about FF14's attempts to systemically discourage toxic behaviour without bringing up SquareEnix's attitude towards third-party addons like parsers and loggers. They're aware that they exist, officially they prohibit them and ask players not to use them, but ultimately they know players will use them and they _for now_ are not going to attempt to detect and punish addon users just for using addons. Where they _will_ stomp down immediately on someone is if they're _harassing_ people for having a shitty DPS parse or something, because that's using an addon AND disturbing the experience of another player. In other words, go ahead and run parsers all you want but keep it to yourself in matchmade groups. This cuts down on the toxicity across the whole community because if you even mention someone else's parse in a random group they can have you talking to a GM soon after you leave the instance.
@@dafire9634 ffxiv is proof that effective balancing can be done. blizzard just doesn't want to do it. in ffxiv, your dps is determined by your skill and your gear level. in wow, your dps is determined by whichever class is broken, what talents are massively better than others, item level, stats, RNG, and some skill. this breeds a toxic environment where classes and specs are constantly changing positions on the scale of "the meta" as blizzard "tries" to balance them. if you play something that isn't popular at the time, due to it being considerably weaker than the other classes, you will get declined from group finder applications. people will not want to play with you. so it's either play what you enjoy the most, or obey the meta. in ff, it doesnt matter what you play, if you like it and you're good at it, you'll be fine. i read somewhere that they're all within 10% of eachother. samurai is "the strongest" dps, but it doesn't matter because it isn't by much. i've beat them on the dps meter with my machinist

W-T-F im sure it was an EX- WoW player because he said he was lvl 58 and was playing the second part of the game (i guess, Havensward)... but, my god is this common while people played at WoW? can someone explain me?
The hardest part is I still want to play WoW, despite knowing its massive problems and knowing I wouldn't have fun. Havent played it in months but played loads of FF14 and its amazing! Its fun and has a lot of things I think WoW could benefit from, namely the aethernet transportation system and having one character for all classes. I do wish that ff14 had a 2h class like warrior that was dps. Not fond of Dragon yet. Some classes like machinist are terrible to level but all classes get exceedingly better as you level. Wish blizz could allow more fun and have less infinite grinds and stopped mitigating fun.
I think they'll try something drastic on the next expansion, something that will do wonders in turning the tide. I believe in WoW's redemption, but I think it will only happen if they get a big enough hit. Hopefully more and more people will quit. We can all go back when things improve.

The only way I can see it is they're very clearly different species, where as 14 has essentially all human-like races. So you could picture a Hyur dating a Mi'qote, etc. Don't get me wrong, still a stupid argument.
Because, ironically, they don't see WoW races as appealing, whereas the XIV races are all meant to be attractive, so they short circuit. But yeah, WoW is objectively the 'furry' one between the 2.
@@kou7191 That's a good point. People think they're hilarious when they call taurens sexy, and although some (will pretend they) mean it, furry races in WoW are far enough on the furry-spectrum that most people's minds don't even register the possibility of attraction. Some do, but most likely do not. In FFXIV, cat girls are far enough on the human spectrum to be reasonably attracted, so like you said...they question it, then short circuit.
It's not just the game. Back in vanilla people were nice and helpful in pugs more often than not. Then, little by little, the "go go go" mentality gamers took over. I was actually shocked by how try-hard people were in classic by comparison.
My experience with positive community was a tank being sorry for pulling too quickly (I may be able to do wall to wall, but not every time I run I have the energy to do so). And even when I don't say anything most players adapt to my pace.
Success is boring, failure is entertaining. I once had a Dun Scaith run where people immediately dipped. Alliance C had 2 people left- a drk and a smn. My group was down a dps. I, the sch, immediately announced I was adopting Alliance C and spent my entire run doing nothing but individually adlo-ing them through mechanics, personal dps be damned. It took us an hour and 45min, but we cleared. Most fun I've had in probably years.
Funnily enough, I because friends with a guy who streams and skipped ALL of the story content to reach end game. He didn’t buy the passes, he literally skipped each cutscene and paid no attention to the story. When chat found out, they bullied him (kind of dramatic way of putting it, it wasn’t mean spirited, they just called him the Skipper. XD) for a whole month before he decided to give in and do New Game +. Now he loves the story and reached the end of Shadowbringers (the base story). Also his viewers grew a LOT during his journey through the game again.
Ummm INACCURATE wow is better than Final Fantasy XIV Which has an expanded free trial where you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.
that leave after 1 wipe mentality even spread a bit to private servers, not quite as badly in wotlk servers since people are less likely to leave after a wipe if you actually go to the dungeon entrance instead of the party finder but it can still happen. it's been that way for years, the I played tera (before it went to p2w sht and shutdown) and even after a wipe nobody left, just waited for the healer to rez and we tried again. seems to be mainly a wow problem.
The fun at he pokes at ff14 is quite valid but nevertheless it was funny as hell. The problems in ff14 are never "main I should unsub problem" they're "I should post about this in the forums so the devs can begin working on a fix that'll come in the next patch or two"
Proud skipper reporting in. If I had a fast forward option, or I could just read the cutscene at my own pace, I'd do that. But I ain't sitting there man. Definitely not for ARR story, at least.
You can but it at Eulmore using a currency that you can get from a very rare FATE in the Tempest. You need to finish 5.0 (Shadowbringers) to have access to the NPC.
I can still tell a WoW player when they purposefully and immediately pull a Trial or Raid boss with no countdown; as soon as the player barrier vanishes, they pull. This pretty much only started when the WoW refugees flooded the game. Not that them coming is bad, but the point is that it is a bit noticeable that that person is probably a WoW refugee. Etiquette must be learned I suppose coming from such toxic parties in WoW.
The part about furry hypocrisy is the best. Cringes me the f out when wow players brand FF a furry weeb game, while wow has more furry stuff than any other MMO.
I played on high pop WoW servers for over 15 years and I have NEVER met a furry ERP guy. The worst I've ever seen is just the usual cow roleplayers... you know, the moo jokes.
Someone should show this video to a Blizzard department that'll recognize and respond to our contempt and frustration with Blizzard's lackluster content over the past few years. Subscribers: "Here are a dozen intolerable, broken, disappointing things about the game." Blizzard (one year later): "We've heard your input and have decided to address two of those things six months from now. Meanwhile, keep paying that subscription fee."
I find it maddening that a game celebrated so much because of its expansive player choices… has such a dearth of actual, useable, male hairstyles. Female characters are off the charts, they’ve always looked fantastic. Male… eh… not so much unless Korean pop band hairdos are yo thang. Love the gameplay, love Eorzea and most of the aesthetic, just want some normal fucking haircuts.
It's almost like FF has an mature appeal to its audience and doesn't insult them by censoring everything that could possibly be offensive. Because there is no way to walk through life whiteout offending someone, about something. Edit: Also the game legit seems to be better, funnier and generally is a more intuitive experience for each of its players in a way that WoW simply cannot be. The dev's at the Blizzard Division of Activision have never been willing to listen to the players until their income was finally threatened and they had no way to reason it otherwise. Its actually unreal, that they are so up their own butts they can't see the players were unhappy for years.
Ion has created two crap expansions now time for him to step aside and get a new Creative Director in so the playerbase can actually start enjoying WoW again.
Not to defend Ion here, but I really doubt a lot of the decisions about Shadowlands were his Ideas. Ideas like "conduit energy" clearly are coming from upper management, it's Ion's job to get it implemented and sell it to the player base. I think there is some real misperception of what his job is, he's not the Yoshi-P of WoW. That being said, him stepping down for his own sanity wouldn't be a crazy idea either.
It's so sad; I genuinely much prefer WoW as the combat and gameplay feels infinitely smoother and better and the boss designs are on another level but... every single time I think about going back I immediately think about Torghast and... actually fuck that.

Also the fact every job is largely balanced, really nips the meta arguments in the bud,and thats what makes a big difference
@@elixwhitetail This! I just started playing FF14 this past weekend, and did my first dungeons last night. I was surprised to see players gaining levels in the 50s and 60s as we progressed through--and when I fucked up they were so kind about it.
Preach should do Hildabrand questline.
Indeed. We need to see Inspector Inspector.
Unpopular opinion but I'mma say it: I don't like the hildy questline. The only 2 times I skipped cutscenes was during hildy and in 2.something when we needed the correct contraceptive crystal to fight Garuda.

@@maxmagnus377 Yeah, feels like I'm the only one. I mean I'm ok with slapstick humor, it just doesn't work for me in this game. It...makes me cringe? Idk. No insults here lol please don't come for me, just my 2 cents.
@@maxmagnus377 Well you can always abandon quest and pretend it didn't happen. I mean, only MSQ and job quests show up in the top left corner as important quests, so nothing lost here.
I have to say this: This video Captain Grim made is perfect for TH-camr Reacts because I've already watch several react videos of it and am still not tired of the original source video along the various reacts.
Lmao he laughs hard as hell at the no skipping joke but the WoW furry jab seemed to go right over his head. Funny bc he would fit that version of a wow player perfectly 😅
The cutscene enjoyer Elezen is 100% me

Hey, that portrayal of the no-skip guy is totally unfair! I've never played an Elezen in my life!
0:51 this was one of Asmongold's argument against FF14 for so long when it made no f*cking sense at all knowing playable races in WoW xD
Man, that "Wow," moment with the Undead pop-up, right in the feels.
That would be something i'd watch.
A serie about an Azeroth Orc isekaied in Eorzea.
I watched some chicken suit dudes play music for like 2 hours in limsa lominsa, instead of rushing through some zone like i do in wow.
Really opened my eyes
I only played wow till after Mists, and I still remember all the ERP offers I'd get whenever I enter a certain tavern lol.
That dungeon seen mykes me tear up every single time. And i think this is the fifth time i watch that video xD
Omg I love how the Blizzard employee has the Ascian back music XD
Wow, Grim did a great job with the FFXIV models. Would love some more, sure the FF community would love em
If hot catgirls dancing in sync is being a furry, I guess I'm coming to the next Furcon.
2:30 , that guy was legit me when i wiped with a group like 6 times in a dungeon. i fully expected people to start bailing immediately. i probably experienced that once since i started playing, granted i've only been playing for a couple months now it's such a vast difference from wow.
I believe a lot of the good will in this community comes from the desire to see other people experience what you experienced. Hence the story skipper memes in ffxiv.
“U Will all come back when we implement solo expedition islands and five new haircolors”

that wrothgar(?) with the moogle hat is inspirational.
Hrothgar is the correct spelling, but you were close! And yeah, it's pretty good.

I just wanna say what happened to me yesterday playing FF14 (i have never played WoW), i was doing an easy dungeon (level hard, nothing difficult, it was part of the main quest story) and when i was fighting a random plant monster (it wasnt even the boss yeat), a player told me WTF i was doing, (no one even died, it was just a fucking plant), he refuse to go to the next stage (the second), and told me if i was green (he was, lvl 58 like me) and he told me that if i even pushed random buttons, he told me i didnt understand, i was a bot or negligence and push me out of the party (4 players) that was the first time it happened to me.... W-T-F im sure it was an EX- WoW player because he said he was lvl 58 and was playing the second part of the game (i guess, Havensward)... but, my god is this common while people played at WoW? can someone explain me?
Those thing could get people banned.

@@azahel542 people have said the next expansion will be great and fix wow every single time. People said it about shadowbringers even. They'll say they know they messed up and are fixing everything and everyone will get hyped and it will repeat
Holy shit i had the same exact thoughts. I hate WoW and Blizzard now because of how shit everything is, but then I remember my times I played as a fury warrior or arms warrior and miss it because FF doesn't have an equivalent in terms of gameplay.
2h class DPS? dont worry FF14 has it covered... next expansion Endwalker there will be REAPER with 2h scythe as dps.
@@dariusissobel5470 yeh but I don't think it's the type they want. Reaper is half magical too and it's a light weight 2h. Dragoon also has a 2h as they pointed out, samurai too.
I never did understand how people like asmon and his viewers could call FFXIV a furry game whenever they had much more... Furr...
Well Asmon already passed that period and he's is in the "cat girl isn't furry" group now.

Yeah, I lost it at the skipping cutscenes bit. So true. XD
Bit of a shame you didn't go back and pause to read the Thancred text that the player skipped!
As soon as I saw that text box pop up, I was like "Time to pause this to see what hilarity is crammed into this frame" lol
I remember being surprised how randoms in LFG are nice, even with vipes and shit, even new player who came from WoW. WTF this game did to us???
It's not just the game. Back in vanilla people were nice and helpful in pugs more often than not. Then, little by little, the "go go go" mentality gamers took over. I was actually shocked by how try-hard people were in classic by comparison.
My experience with positive community was a tank being sorry for pulling too quickly (I may be able to do wall to wall, but not every time I run I have the energy to do so). And even when I don't say anything most players adapt to my pace.
Holy crap, how am I not subbed to this guy. Going there now to sub.
the Metal Giant Elezen killed me
1:26 Cpt Grimm hit that Joke so hard and correctly, every single FF14 creator either did a "You did what?" or "HUUUUUUUGH!" reaction to it.
"wOw"
That hit deep.
Activision Blizzard and La[Ha]Brea Tar Pits are less than 10 miles apart... Coincidence? I think not.
I love Copium Elf, favorite character

Has preach gotten his car yet?
I shouldn’t laugh but that was damn funny.
This is so funny but so true
