  • In this video we attempt to attend the Crewe Heritage classic car meet, until the Standard 8 fails to start! After heading over in the MX5 California, we joined a great selection of classic cars attending this damp breakfast meet from French oddities such as a Renault 5 Gordini to a lovely Triumph Stag complete with hardtop!

My favourites: the nicely restored black Ford Pop and the yellow Spitfire, nicely set off with those very smart wheels. I think the Standard 8 left sulking in the driveway deserves a damn good thrashing, Basil Fawlty style!

Good turn out for a cold wet day, the Stag looked like a very nice example and very useable in winter with the hard top on, I've not used my hard top for about twenty years now but the Stag is used when there's no salt on the roads. Well done Harley. Cheers Bob

I'm late viewing this video Harley. The show was more like a French car show with all the different models turning up. I like French cars. The Renault 5 Gordini is nice , very sporty looking. They weren't sold here in New Zealand. The only popular Renault here was the Renault 12. My favorite French car is the Citroen DS. The design of them is beautiful and very advanced for their time. The Citroen GS I like too. That Triumph Stag is stunning.

@@CarTractionvids I like the stags with the hard top. My older brother knew a guy back in the 1970s, and he owned a
1976 model in white with a black soft top. It was so nice, it was brand new.

@CarTractionvids My brother whom I mentioned also knew a guy who had a Triumph Spitfire, it was a 1971 model I think if my memory serves me well. I remember going in it and my brothers friend planted his foot on the accelerator and opened it up . Great little motorcar.

Thanks for looking at the "trains" (actually, locos) - the first one was a class 37, the Ford Cortina of the 60's/70's(80's/90's railway, known as Tractors because of the agricultural engine growl, the second was a class 91 electric power car still in use on the East Coast Main Line. That Mustang wasn't "heritage" was it? I assume someone's daily drive. Please keep us up to date on exactly what the Standard's woes are - I don't think it's just the battery. Happy New Year!

The negative lead on the Standard 8 battery looks remarkably thin for starter motor load - unless I am mistaking an auxiliary accessory cable.

Great video Harley considering that it was such a small attendance. Tell me if I'm wrong but when you jumped the Standard I thought I saw the red+ lead attached to the black neg lead on the Standard battery?
    Peter.

Thanks, I'm not sure but dad has jumped many many cars over the years so hopefully he'd get it right!

Yes,quite so but I was surprised that there was no response from the Standard with all those volts going in from the yellow beast. It may be that the battery has collapsed internally. Did it start after the overnight charge?@@CarTractionvids

Never ever heard of a train called Inter City! That’s a class 91 electric loco which were used on the East Coast Rail line to London.
A whole generation that carry all the info in the world in their pocket and can’t use google or more likely have no interest in nothing at all,

It was a limited meet, perhaps due to weather or post Christmas blues, and I hope the Standard was fettled successfully. At least you had a warm and dry, bullet-proof MX5 in which to defy the element.
Thanks, Harley, for a relaxed, knowledgeable and very mature, enjoyable vid!

Great video Harley but a pity about the weather and the temperamental Standard. I owned a Polo the same model as the one is the video only in red which I bought new and which was stolen never to be seen again. I also owned yellow 1500 Spitfire whch I loved.

Harley, my mates blue Land Rover (3.33mins) at the start of this video, I rang him to mention it and he was in Shrewsbury overnight and today (Sun). Was this image from an earlier video? puzzled.
