Hey kimble, if you want to see a Data East game that's REALLY crazy, look up "Trio The Punch - Never Forget Me" for arcades. It's a huge farce of everything Data East. Both Karnov and Chelnov show up in it as enemies, even!
Got this little gem in a bundle few years back and it has grown to be one of my favorites on the Megadrive. Such a fantastic game, once you adapt into it!
My friend had the misfortune to own this back in the early 90s. The best thing about it was the mileage we got from his ridiculous "Olive Oyl", "shakin-all-over" death. I watched this video just to watch him shake and cry. Cheers Kim "LiL'JpD."
Thanks for putting up a review of this one! Been enjoying playing through this lately, I think those 15 continues are necessary for everyone, not just us over in North America! I'd be interested in what your preference is when it comes to weapon choices. I tend to stick with the regular 'laser' and the fire rings as I can't stand the limited reach of some of the others. Your passion for the game is infectious and a fun watch to get me hyped for more Atomic Runner! Take care.
Data East was an interesting company. They made cheesy games and they kind of knew it. Once in a while though they made something fantastic. It's weird they decided to only give 5 continues in the European version since the Japanese version also has 15.
Good review, although perhaps a bit more glowing in its praise than I would have been. I need to look at the control scheme a little more carefully for this one, but is there a way to assign A to left fire, B to right fire, and C to jump? I think this would work better with Side Arms controls.
Good game seems like you mastered the capture on your first try. That was really crisp although still had the boarders but if the recording software doesn't support cropping it that would have to do and it's great quality anyway.
I downloaded atomic runner for my mega drive emu, and I have one problem with the turning. You have to move the pad to the direction that you want to turn. It feels like I should just press and turn. Don't know why, that's just how I think it should be.
Fecking? F***ing?...you're not indecisive, are you? :) The only new game on my radar is Shadowrun Returns. I'm officially pumped for that one. In related news, Shadowrun weeviews have jumped right up the queue.
how are you insult the mighty Data East!! j/k, but srsly, you must play Gunball by Data East, arcade exclusive. It's like a combination of Mercs and Pinball. Great stuff, check it out on MAME if you can
Can't go anywhere on youtube these days without someone saying this person looks or sounds like that person. I just don't get it. What do they want for that kind of asinine observation? SMH
But then again Sword of Sodan was an AMIGA original so putting it onto a system where the controls are not the same is going to somewhat make it crappier than the already bad ans slow original game.

I keep coming back to this review. It is fantastic.

The art design on this game is nuts . Cyberpunk meets ancient Egypt.
This games soundtrack is FUDGING AWESOME
try trigger type 2-1, 2-2 or 2-3 in the options menu. It makes the turning button-only press and turn.
Thanks for that mate.
That death animation.
I still have memories of this game, but I forgot the name of it! Loved it as a kid. Yes, it was difficult.
Its nice to find out a bit of history to each game reviewed

Karnov is beautiful, and he makes a wonderful and competent mascot.
Cram your mascot role stereotypes, big fat rugged dudes can be appealing too.

I didn't play MD Atomic runner until '95 and thought it was great. Never managed to beat it though.
One of the best games on the SEGA Mega Drive and one of my favourites.

Yeh 15 continues would be nice.
It's a shame I didn't remember that one while writing the review - 'cause it would have definitely been in.
Those wood cravings are actually Japanese clay figures called Dogu. Classic "I'm not saying it was aliens..." stuff.
Routinely going for £40 on fleabay now, fuck that makes me sad.

5:50 spot the double headed phallus
Subscribed! These reviews are fascinating :)
I've had this game as a kid and I think I only beat it once I always give it a try from time to time just for old times sake
Looks great, this one is going on my list for sure!
The final level in this game was hard as shit back in the day the level theme was the best out of all of them.
Excellent review - enjoyable all the way through :)
Great game definetly a hidden gem
That just made me add this game to my purchase list.
My favorite Data East game is Tumble Pop. Though I never played the original arcade game, the gameboy version is pure fun.

hmm never considered this game but now im interested!
Back once more to enjoy this amazing review!
Great video Kimble one of my favourite games pump the volume up and blast up mega power

Awesome review! Very informative.
Great review, need to get this game sometime! The real HW capture looks good :).
Yeah, the game's mine - I didn't buy it specifically for this :). I think I got it off Amazon.

Subscribed, fantastic review.
Yeh he's one of the best.
Excellent vid , game is great and so much easier if you change the controls in options to a button fire left b jump c fire right , try it.
Always thought this wasn't a good game (never played it), guess I'll give it a go sometime!

I love this game and Data East titles! :)
watched this then finished the game. make A shoot left and C shoot right was the way to go.
awesome game, awesome music.
Agreed.
Ok, I'm a big fan of your videos, but why do you remind me of Foggy Nelson from the new Daredevil Netflix show

peepeepoopoo

Like Atomic Runner, I'm hard for the right reasons.
Boo-yaa.
the speech impediment I can forgive - not knowing the word 'dudes'!?!? unforgivable! :P
