"The world record at the time was around 80 meters and they were throwing at a 112 meters, that's almost 20 meters farther". That's not even that big of a number to screw up the math so badly :)
Well done. Just to make it even more comprehensive, it is also illegal to put a weight (lead) in the shoe of a shot putter. As many readers here know, if one does a standing long jump and holds two weighted dumbbells in the hands and swings them forward slightly before the jump, one can jump farther. So, a weighted shoe has the same effect for a shot putter. Two well known elite shot putters (there could be more) have been disqualified from meets after weighted shoes were discovered.
It probably should have a video of its own, but this retrospective left out a track and field event that was born in controversy. And that event is RACE WALKING. It too has a curious and convoluted history in international athletics. It has been around since 1904, Olympic-wise, and its practitioners are always in fear of the event's being eliminated from the athletics program. I would love to see an addendum to this current video that covers the race walking controversies and struggles to survive.
I think banning a superior technique because it's hard to learn or because they're afraid that children are going to fuck it up is a bad idea. Just teach them how to do it correctly, because by that measurement gymnastics should not ever be performed by children.... But they do it all the time. Rather than ban the technique, why not just train for it.
@@JumpersJunction I watched it all the way boss🤝 Your narration alone can carry a video. It just seemed it was overused at the beginning since a lot of disciplines were covered in that half. Great job though!
Excellent presentation! lots of juicy info for "track nuts" like me. Never heard the story of Puma and Addidas before. Going to start following this channel.
Spikes help with the initial acceleration out the blocks but they cause of lot of breaking forces when the pins sink into the surface below you causing the foot to slightly stop each time mid sprint so idk if adding more spikes would help besides the initial acceleration
Yeah, I'm no track athlete, but when I finally heard the reason, I was like, 'WHAT??' ...and btw, exactly NOBODY would get hurt while _spinning forward_ into sand. Wow, that stunned me.
You forgot that high jump had the dive technique and not just scissoring and tge flop. Diving style is perhaps scarier but has potential to be as effective as the flop for a brave person.
It seems that the real issue is with gamesmanship, its not in the spirit of javelin throwing for example to simply chuck it, the idea surely is to perfect the SKILL of throwing not distance or length by any means. I'm glad most of these were banned.
Constructive criticism, maybe only mention things once or twice, the bit about the iaaf changing names is killing my soul 😂 videos genuinely good though mate
Ya I agree. Good point. These are all separate videos though that I put into one so it was for added context individually. But combined, ya it would be good to only have it once. Keep the feedback coming. These types of comments give me insight into how I can improve and get better.
The 80 Olympic’s was also in Moscow so the triple jump cheating(yes I said it) by the officials were par for the course. It was happening in all sports. Plus there was their dipping scandal and they also got caught spiking opponents food.
40:00 the pronunciation was so off and it is interesting to hear because everything in his name is common so it's not a name we brazilians would often hear mispronounced hahaha

I’ve added it to the list! That’s a great idea!
Race walking is my favorite race to watch, catching them panicking jogging then trying to not get caught cracks me up.

Stakes are too high. Easy to break your neck attempting front somersault.
I guess the French pole vaulter needs a term of his own!
Do athletes do dumbass things to improve their performance?
lol… sometimes….
Yes
Props on the video, but I'm 1/2 way through the video and the overused quote is borderline making me want to stop watching lol
lol Sorry about that. I shift away from it in the latter sections though
It's just a bridge between athletic disciplines. Doesn't bother me.events

Thanks for helping me realize that I do some dumbass things to improve performance!

insane.
Very nice, the compilation.
I would love to see more videos about banned techniques.
Check out the playlist, I have a bunch more videos in different sports
The stepanov story is just really sad to hear. 🙁
27:33 hyponatremia - low SODIUM presence in BLOOD
I thank Chubbyemu for teaching how to read that medical vocabulary
Thanks for posting. Very informative compilation.
we should do a competition using just banned techniques. It would be pretty funny.
Your pronunciation of "Adi dAssler" is just perfect, but why do you use a completely screwed pronunciation of "AdIdas" then?

Well presented and explained. Nice work!
i think the front flip long jump should be legal
Fax that would be so much more entertaining

Oh noooooo you could land on your head while trying a cartwheel!!! This must be banned, way to dangerous! No cartwheels in the olympics!!!!
Right 😂
31:52 the commitment from Americans to incorrectly pronounce "Adidas" is kind of impressive

@JumpersJunction ahh bugger I had no idea mate sorry! As I say though smashing it otherwise

Did this video not previously exist? What happened
TH-cam issue. I had to edit out a section and reupload.
In brief don't somersault unless its pole vault
Salt is sodium chloride, not sodium.
Jaak Uudmäe is pronounced Yahk Ooodmaeh. Estonian. A keen smoker, he said he felt embarassed smoking secretly hidden behind pole vault matress.

lol I know my bad. I swear I heard some old announcer on a clip say it like that but ya it’s pretty poor pronunciation
Does anyone know the soundtrack?
4:50 no it's not, the ball is the "shot" and the athlete "puts" it. At least get the basic terminology correct
You sound jut like Tom Cruise.
That's not cool.
So boring.
