Some people who fail to carefully examine scripture, or who put their own ideas before scripture, are often saying that repentance is a work. That is entirely due to an improper understanding of salvation, and a failure to take into consideration the words of Scripture themselves. It's plainly obvious from the Bible that repentance AND faith are the twin hinges that the door of salvation swings upon, but equally true is that both are bibically acknowledged to be a GIFT OF GOD, therefore clearly totally disconnected from any works whatsoever. Acts 5:31 He is the one whom God exalted [a]to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts 11:18 When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life.” 2 Timothy 2:25 "with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth" Romans 2:24 "Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?" The Word of God is very clear: repentance and faith are linked, and BOTH are gifts of God, very clearly not 'works'. Do not fall for those who would pervert and twist the scritpures to their own ends.
