Something a lot of people don't bother with that is secretly amazing is the tombstone mod. Try to make a decorative graveyard early to attract homeless wandering spirits- they'll thank you by giving you magic, enchanting items and other stuff
Yes! A oddly under used mod in my opinion. Even just to get a random enchanted tool is BIG early game. Getting a silk touch anything (even a stone one) is SO useful early game.

the best early game stuff you should make is a backpack. But as soon as you have the resources, make some kind of digital storage; time spent hunting through chests for resources adds up fast.
Bed > Sleeping bag > BACKPACK > Storage System With mods you choke yourself out with all the items and all the nonsence and if you dont have a warehouse or something to that effect you spend large amounts of time managing inventory. Backpacks help but are not a solution. Once backpacks are had, exploring is less painful and mining becomes possible. Mining opens up storage options which is critical to any comfortable Modded playthrough also, Mahogany Doors

Very glad to see you back, Sjin. Comfiest TH-camr for me to chill to. Most important thing to go for at the start is not too different from vanilla, really. Shelter with a bed, (mahogany door,) torches, food, and tools. The difference lies in what modded tools are available; Tinker's Construct, Silent's Gear, or my personal favorite, Tetra. From there it's a storage solution followed by getting started with any magic mods that are available, and from then on it's time for a new colony. Colonial is gorgeous, but make sure you account for the lovely roads included with the new style and space your buildings accordingly. (My personal favorite build styles are Frontier, Byzantine and Sandstone, the first two being available in the StyleColonies submod.)
I like to start with an immediate safe spot even if its a cave in the side of a hill. dont want to get taken out the first night, but the actual first thing I do is chop down as much wood as i can get to make charcoal and to prepare torches for underground mining during the night.
Glad to see your channel come alive again! Although my level in russian is pretty low, I believe the russian refugee in your colony is named Pallidia Florentev. And in any modded MC playthrough I do, the first thing I rush is a proper computer/simple storage (or any equivalent) storage system, as it makes everything else much easier :D

hey there sjin, I think the most important thing to build in a modded playthrough is the Backpack. I love to explore all the new things in a modpack, and to carry it with me. Sophisticated Backpacks mod was a fantastic addition to my arsenal. smelting, autofeed, liquid storage. auto deposit and sorting, a good backpack can quickly get you on your feet into a new modpack.
7:36 When I start a modded pack, the big ticket starter item I always look for is the mechanical saw from Create. Its primary early game function is to chop down entire trees (or forests, if you're cheeky) all at once. However, once you get situated, its easy to repurpose into either a cutting station (+50% yield when crafting shafts or planks) or rudimentary tree farm.
The first thing I always make is a wooden pick. Fast track to stone tools so I can get my resources faster. Love your vids, thank you for teaching me almost everything I know about Minecolonies :D

The sooner you can get some sort of ore duplication setup, the better off you'll be. Not having to struggle for resources makes modded that much easier.
I mean, the sophisticated backpacks are an absolute must, but I feel like those are always mentioned. Really, the faster you can get to the Hopper Botany Pots and universal pipes, the better. The botany pots can grow just about everything you need, and with pipes, you can move them to a central storage. For ATM9, storage capacity is just the absolute biggest part of the game, and the faster you can get it straightened out, the closer you are to REALLY taking off.

mahogany doors, best doors. I find myself occasionally thinking that to myself when I"m making doors for my base. most important thing for me to craft is a storage system first, or at the bare minimum, a backpack. a good barrel/drawer storage system early on to hold my junk until I can get a RS system, which is usually what I prioritize since it's cheaper to start than AE2. AE2 is a little better, but way later game. Also I'm glad to see you back, I adore all of your series' and I've learned so much for building from you, and your videos are just chill. Lastly, for Create, I am eager to see what you whip up, the trains you build block by block, and I imagine you will make some incredibly gorgeous vehicles and factories.
Most important for Modded Minecraft: A way to fly/hover and go fast.. Jetpack, angel wings, blabla anything that does that. If not early on, it must be one of the major goals. p.s. i need a LP with track1 "Mohogany doors" and then a good old fashion LP hickup to restart track1..
Well it depends on what mods the player is playing with. But you honestly can't start anything without a crafting bench obviously. But I agree with you on the sleeping bag, very convenient. Also, if it's available then backpacks are a MUST have. 😁
For me I usually start easy pretty similar to what you did, I just make sure to put charcoal in the furnace to burn more wood to get more charcoal, better economy that way. I usually try get into Mekanism as fast as possible to get doubling of ore, and try to get some generators that uses hydrogen for power, this used to be pretty easy on earlier versions of ATM
I think you should try to rush for Ars Noveau. It has some useful spells like being able to mine a 7 x 1 x 7 area of blocks, or mining obsidian instantly. It also comes with an infinite light source and blocks which can be toggled to be temporary or permanent.
I say the most important thing to make from modded minecraft are backpacks or other portable storage containers, being able to gather lots of resources is key off the bat so not having to run back to unload as often to unload. Plus you can hold more supplies to stay out longer too; food, torches, etc.
I go for an AE storage system from applied energistics 2. It's was easier to make now then it has been in the past, and all your storage being in one place and not having a million chests is the best part about it for me. Especially since modded minecraft has waaay too many items for normal storage.
I like to start off on sophisticated backpacks and iron furnaces as fast as possible. The tip upgrade for silent gear is ridiculously underrated as well. Glad to finally have you back for this pack

Get all the wool for a bed from one sheep, and get leaves both for decoration AND spawnproofing. You just need to get lucky and find iron fast. Best minecolonies structure to build: Once you have a builder's hut (which is required first) a lumberjack/forester whatever they're currently calling it. You're gonna need lumber for every single thing you build, so you may as well get someone else helping you harvest it. And of course, Mahogany Doors are the superior choice of portal closure in any building
i'm so happy to see a video from you, definitely missed watching. been recovering from a very difficult first half of the year, and am overjoyed to have this boost to my mood at the start of the day. ironically some major difficulties involved construction lol important to uh... build a shield? haven't played with mods in about a decade lol, i'd end up weary of any mobs. but actually, since i'm not too familiar with mods, i'd most likely begin by getting the basic books etc for the mods involved so i can categorize what i actually want to do. organization is always key. obligatory Mahogany door reference lmao (if you like houseplants, you should get a natal mahogany, seen ppl with them and they look very nice)

It just lets me "set the first goal" since I know I'm indecisive when it comes to settling, plus I'm a loot goblin so... I typically carry a lot of "junk right now but useful later" items at all times haha. Every inventory slot is precious!

Storage and inventory management is always something good to focus on early to avoid getting bogged down later. Anything that expands your inventory right away so you can carry more things is a plus!

A sorting/storage system is always key, especially considering all the random things you pick up from the various mods
a Silent Gear setup or Tinkers setup is my go to for modded minecraft. if neither are in the modpack, then a good food supply.

Traveler's Backpack has become my go-to starter item in modded. It actually makes the Crafting tablke on a stick obsolete.

My usual plan for a mod series is to make a big open room that is well lit so I can get to work without mobs ruining my stuff.
A useful tip in early MineColonies: Level 1 builder (and most other jobs) can use stone tools, not just wood.

Oh my God thank God I thought you quit or something I'm glad to see you back missed your content and of course the first thing you build is mahogany doors and a mahogany house in mahogany chairs and mahogany windows and mahogany weapons not that you're actually going to use the mahogany wooden tools or the mahogany wooden weapons or the mahogany wooden armor but it's nice to have a mahogany wooden armor stand and a mahogany wood frame to hold your mahogany wood armor and you're mahogany wood weapons 😂

Storage and inventory management is always something good to focus on early to avoid getting bogged down later. Anything that expands your inventory right away so you can carry more things is a plus!
