What a clever series- a book, each, from the viewpoint of various of the characters in the story! I believe there are some romance novel series that do that. I recall my former boss reading them and sharing them around the office. I hope I eventually come across something like this at our village library- not those predictable romance novels but a series such as you are describing here.

I actually read "The Comanche Empire" recently because i wanted to learn more about the Comanches, but i think I should have gone with the one you chose, it sounds better. Mine was not captivating I must say, even if I learnt a lot (the writing was quite dry). It had lots of maps though, so maybe both books complete each other :)
I hear both references made: Native American" or "Indian". The older indigenous people tend to use "Indian" (in the interviews I have seen) and are not offended by it but younger people prefer the former. "First Nations", as the indigenous people are known in Canada, I think is good but there is always going to be someone, somewhere, who is going to take exception to that as well. (Hard to keep up with all of this PC stuff and pronouns and such because the goal post keeps being moved). When I can, I will use the actual tribe name, that they call themselves. It's not always easy because sometimes we are using the name that another tribe has given them, i.e. Yun-wiya are referred to as "Cherokee", a word that they do not have in their language..
Being away from the US is also making it harder to keep track. I'll hear about some new terminology and I'll acknowledge it but it might be a while before I have the opportunity to use it myself.

Coming from Yale Press that book certainly looks much more academic in nature! I can see why it was dry.
