I used to find that annoying as well. You get a kata down pat and then some high and mighty (up themselves) sensei wants to boost his ego by making an unnecessary change. I remember I used to ignore the change and do it as I had learned. I figured after having earned my dan grade through hell, I had the right. And if they don't like it - f*ck them!

It's always been a fast movement. I think the slow movement comes from competitions where the competitor wants to stand out.
@@molefilebone check old videos of Kanku Dai. Kanazawa's tapes, or the old black and white tapes of the JKA, was always executed slowly.
