Raiding the Tomb of Jonah

- We've all heard the story of Jonah, the reluctant prophet who was swallowed by a whale. But was he a real person? Did he have a tomb? Perhaps the strongest connection to history and the Biblical Jonah is the very specific references to his hometown of Gath Hepher, identified today with the Arab town Mash'had near the Sea of Galilee. Mash'had means "the grave of a holy man." And indeed, there is a tomb for Jonah in Mash'had.
The Bible is the most amazing book ever written. What do YOU think? Leave a comment.

Thanks. Hope you like it.
It was a whale.
(Matthew 12:40) "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
You may be right. The word for whale in Matthew 12:40 is kētous, from which we get the term cetacean (or whale). However, the Greeks did apply this word to any huge sea monster, like the sea monster Perseus slew. But in Jonah 1:17, the Hebrew word is dāḡ which was used in Nehemiah 13:16 for the kind of fish you can catch and eat. So it makes more sense to me that God prepared a special fish for the occasion, as the text implies. Either way, it's still a miracle.
The western Wall was still standing
Yes, but the temple itself was left with not one stone upon another.
Great answer!
How did Jonah survive the lack of oxygen, lack of light and digestive juices of fishes belly? Not to mention the smell.
Whale probably. I don't think that Ancient Jews cared about the difference. They're mammals, with lungs and blowholes
Why? Are you waiting for answers like this in order to believe? It's a recorded historical fact that Christ performed miracles, healed sickness, and raised Himself from the dead. The only ones who don't believe that are those who can't let go of their sins. If you can't do that, it wouldn't matter if you DID believe. Get to know the Savior FIRST and answers to everything will come with absolute certainty.
@@gsquat Negative. He didn't raise himself. He spoke of him and God as separate entities. Nothing he did was without "the father's" blessing.
@@kla631 The Father and the Son are separate. They are one in the Holy Spirit and in eternal presence. Jesus also said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father."
@@gsquat What has this got to do with Jonah becoming fish food only to be regurgitated later. With lack of oxygen, digestive juices and whatnot. It would be impossible to survive. Recently a swimmer or diver was accidently swallowed by a whale, once the whale realized it, he spit the person out almost immediately. One can conclude that Jonah is a parable or metaphor.
