Best shotgun shells for home defense

- This is how you should pattern your shotgun with different types of shells to figure out what it likes best.
I told you I’d put this in the description:
The ammo my Maverick 88 likes is Panzer Defense Lequian. Let me know if you want me to shoot it on video...
Another beautiful day at: @evergreensportsmensclub2720

Thank you for the video,I'm a new subscriber to your channel and new to the shotgun world. Where can I look up the classes that you offer? Thanks in advance.
@@pedrotorres4643 thank YOU!! Classes can be found at www.blackringtactical.com I hope to see you in a class!
“Birdshot at 7 yards.. is that lethal… maybeee, I definitely wouldn’t want to get hit by it.. that’s for sure..” 😂😂😂
I’ve gotten knocked around before, but I still wouldn’t want that…
Depends on what you mean by birdshot.
Most people mean target loads, not actual bird hunting loads. The range of actual birdshot is so wide that any blanket statements about the effectiveness of it is guaranteed to be wrong depending on a host of factors.
There are also other factors besides shot size. Payload, velocity and wad design are also factors. The shotgun itself can change the pattern and velocity with barrel length, choke and forcing cone.
Low velocity, low payload target loads are very different from 1 1/4 #4 plated upland game loads going 1500 ft/sec. Add in a flight control wad a 24 in barrel and an extended forcing cone, I’d have no problem with my life depending on it inside 10 yards.
I have no doubt that the more powerful birdshot loads would be very effective across my living room. However, I simply don’t understand the advocacy of those loads because they tend to have heavier payloads at higher velocities than a round of quality low recoil 00 buck, making those bird loads more punishing to shoot. It makes no sense to purposefully select a load with greater recoil and questionable effectiveness when we know buckshot works.
Pattern several quality buckshot loads and pick the one that patterns best and is reasonably obtainable.
Fun fact - based on gel testing, buckshot will go further in gel than slug. Plus you are responsible only for 1 slug but for 8-9 buckshots.
@@ggrandcz fun fact: buckshot loses energy faster when it hits things. It’s a mass vs speed math problem. Also, the point of buckshot is to spread the love to more vitals. That being said, I have slugs on my side saddle because I live where I might need to take a longer shot.
@@BlackRingTactical There is almost no deformation of buckshots, they just go straight thru target. Slug deforms and create big drag. That is why it transfer energy better. You have tons of gel tests to support this fact, not your fiction.
Appreciated your content - thank you.
@@Robert-xl4mm thank YOU!
Awesome video, per usual! Great info!! 💪🏻
@@randyholbrook9604 thank you!
Thats a tuff one for me, my room, my kids room are on 1 side of my house, our hallway is the kill zone..i can see the front door from my hallway and cant see the back door, i use slug, double buck , vice versa..how many ever are there the first 1 one who gets hit tryna come down the hallway will get demolished thats 12 yards and if u close the distance its bad..so yea if they try that its over..
@@filipinophreak I wouldn’t alternate shot shells in your gun. You will get different recoil impulses which can throw off your subsequent shots. Also, not every problem will require that slug. For inside the house, 00 buck or #4 buck reign supreme.
@BlackRingTactical ive actually pracrice this and yes the recoil is different that 1301 makes it not that bad...i use all hornady my 308 i also use hornady and it smooth..just my opinion..
Great video man. Keep em coming. 🔥
@@Tylu_PNW thanks man! Will do!
I have a Panzer BP-12 shotgun and so I've been curious about the Panzer Defense Lequian shells. No one has made a video testing that ammo yet. I would watch it if you made one. :-)
@@InternetMarketingDoc give me a subscribe and the next time I go to the range I’ll bring them! Deal?
Done deal!!

I might get some hate, but I don't care.....I will never again use ANY Federal ammo. Which is a shame, because I normally like to support companies in my home state. I've had nothing but issues with every type of their ammo. Pistol, rifle and shotgun ammunition. Shotshells that wouldn't ignite, rifle ammo that would lock up a multitude of bolt action rifles, and the worst was the pistol ammo that was underloaded. They wouldn't create a squib load, but would corkscrew through the air in a 2ft circle corkscrew and WERE VISIBLE IN FLIGHT WITH THE NAKED HUMAN EYE. I called Federal and they proceeded to mock me and said it was my fault, or the guns fault. I offered to send the ammo to them to test, and received more mocking. Never again.
@@jeremyfoss505 holy cow! I’ve never had any issues with Federal ammo except the normal FTFs that you get with mass produced 9mm. Flite Control has been 100% reliable in all my shotguns. You must have gotten bad lots and should probably go play the lottery!
@@BlackRingTactical Still waiting on that lottery payout lol. Seems like I only "good" luck with ammo haha. Thanks for the vid. It's always fun to watch a video on the basics. Can still catch something new from time to time.
