I got through my doctoral studies by giving myself an hour every day (after taking classes and teaching) to knit or hand stitch something (I’m a quilter). After a day of stressful mental activity, the act of crafting something tangible became very important to my psyche. Finding that balance between taking care of oneself and helping others is a constant struggle for most of us, especially at this time of the year.
