While not the same per se, for master of puppets by Metallica, the clean ballad sounding section is supposed to be the high that the addict receives to take them away from the chaos of the rest of the song. Same principle here
Suicide note part 1 and 2 is honostly my favourite pantera song. Handles the concept of depression and suicide really well, the 1st half being very empty and melancholic sounding, then part 2 completely turns 180 and brings out the more "standing on the ledge" side, being manic and animalistic, like someone who isnt thinking clearly, feeling the pure adrenaline from being on the verge of suicide, that flight or flight feeling deep in your gut as you tell yourself "this is where i end it all"
Exactly! Also, I love viewing the end portion of the song with somebody who is on the absolute brink of no return; then, all of a sudden, Dimebag brings it home with his grooviness to show that Suicide lost again 🤘🏽 It’s so poetic
A huge amount of respect people have for Pantera is that as they put out more albums they didnt get more radio friendly like so many other bands. Instead they got darker, heavier and less commercial.
back in 96 this is how they started the concert. there was a huge curtain up with the snake xray on it during part 1 and the curtain dropped as part 2 started. absolutely filthy
These two always need to be played together. I love how they’re both heavy - one lyrically (emotionally), the other, musically. The Great Southern Trendkill is my favorite PanterA album.
Bro I’m a trucker and anytime I’m stuck in traffic I just blast Pantera and open my windows just so I can piss off other drivers. Metalhead for life 🤘🤘🤘
Part 1 represents the deep depression side, when the thoughts are coming from a traumatic event in the person's life!! Part 2 represents the stress, anxiety and panic of being in a manic meltdown. Feeling that nobody cares. Kind of like having a devil on your shoulder, whispering in your ear to "END IT ALL" Great reaction!!! 🤘🤘🤘 CFH4EVA!!
@@rowdy5.9L if music in your taste was still alive i think you and i would would be living a better life. music today has 0 skill or feel at all. pantera was both strength and emotion with a big fist full of talent.
Funny thing considering all of Phils lyrics are pretty personal and emotional. Just because he sings the way he does most of the time doesn't mean his lyrics aren't emotional and impactful.
Suicide note pt 1 such a powerful song. Imagine the first part being your life flashing before your eyes and the singing being an angel taking you to the beyond.
same dude the first one is basicly sinks in to core of my body i feel it in my soul. But i found Dime man i started to play like 5 hours a day just to learn guitar.
Sooo been a fan of Pantera since 1990. I LOVE it when we all can come together and recognize good music... I was pissed off (real shit) till I saw your reaction and you pulled me out bro. So you got a sub stay real and look forward to more.. getcha pull bro. Rip Dime Rip Vince 😭🙏
Bruh dime has so many different little filthy break downs he could make whole parts of songs with but he’ll just throw them in the last fifteen seconds of a song lmao
I remember driving home from a bar the night before my bday a few years ago with both part 1 and part 2 on repeat. Ended up being visited by my late uncle in a dream.
@@kingjames1308 Hell yes! I went to the Dayton Ohio show. I was 14 years old and I still have the ticket stub. Eye Hate God, Deftones, White Zombie, Pantera
Levi Ratliff nice! We were on the pit fence and jumped over when the lights went out when Pantera opened. They opened with suicide note 1. I busted my lip on my friends head when we jumped and moshed with blood all over my face. Kind of disgusting when i think back on it lol
I am absolutely loving your bromance with Phil. Lol. I don’t know if you have ever considered doing an interview with him but he can be reached. That would be fire 🔥
I remember scoring this album, driving back home with a car load of friends and daaaaamn...the opener was off the chain "The Great Southern Trendkill"...but by the time we got to these two tracks you could tell Phil was in a different place...he's no longer singing about confidence and power but dope! smh!
These two songs actually saved me years ago, I lost my brother who was killed overseas in Afghanistan and went through a period of rage and depression. Also had been a serious substance user at the time. Still here though. Twelve years clean.🤘
Part 1 was the setup. Part 2 is when it goes chaotic. Kinda like Part 1 is supposed to be more sad and depressing. And Part 2 is the "FUCK YOU!!! IM DOING IT!!!!" part.
@Medicine Man I saw Gojira live at a festival and had never heard them before. They played Stranded and I looked at my buddy like “holy fuck these guys are legit, and they came from France?!”
My buddy Elbert Bizzle went to Pantera with me. Yeah, I'm white and he's black.....fuck race, we had a great time!!! Only black dude there.....he got more respect than anyone at that show! (This was in 1998) 😎👊
I am asking this because i am not from america. What do you think about dime's confederation guitar and phil's 'white power' comments. I am just curious
not until the 2010s did ppl actually get up in arms about Confederate flags. Phil's entire schtick with the white power shit is that every single perrson on this planet should not have pride and self confidence stripped from them ever. Phil is the type of guy to make sure the dude in the wheelchair in the crowd is safe. He's the type of guy to lift your chin for you and remind you how strong you are, against all odds and against all shallow social movements from the virtue worshippers
Nice reaction as always, in pt1 Phil vocally and the instrumentals really channeled their close friends Alice In Chains heavily, it is glorious, the 2 kings of the 90s and super close friends so it was awesome to hear them channeling the AIC vibes on pt 1. Pt2 is just so fuckin heavy and brutal, that shit is absolutely vintage pantera heaviness/aggressiveness/brutality
When Phil sings “take the pain away” dimebags riff goes from minor key to major key. I think that is fuckin phenomenal writing.

Agreed
Suicide Part II is hands down the best song on the album.
