Illegal human zoos/safari operated in india also as late as 10 years back. Mostly in Andaman Islands, many tourist operators were busted. The issue came out when one group of tourists had forced an andamanese tribe woman perform nude dance and video graphed it.
Road between town of portblair and tourist destination baratangh goes via andamanese tribe village. People had misbehaved with this friendly people (friendly but wanted to live in seclusion) so much that govn created checkpost and no vehicle stoppage policy with photography punishable with jail term and later created new road. During my trip to Andaman, i by chance saw a 12 - 14 yr old andamanese boy in the checkpost when we were exiting. He was saying tata to our car, prettiest smile I have ever seen.
