  • Barbarian Prince is a solitaire game of heroic adventure in a forgotten age of barbarism and sorcery. It also has a reputation as the most deadly solo game out there.
    In this first video, we have a quick overview, set up the character and take our first steps into the world of Barbarian Prince.

    I remember playing this when it came out in Ares magazine. Glad to see what is old becoming new again.
    The re-skin is really nice. It looks really good all freshened up. I'll have to download it and give it a go for nostalgia sake.

    I bought the original box set at The Complete Stratagist in Davy, Fl way back in the early '80's. It came with a neat looking 15mm mini that looked similar to the box illustration.

    Getting lost crossing a river must be the height of wilderness incompetence! You're on one bank or the other. This prince is definitely a pampered palace dweller!

    Excellent! Thanks for sharing, hope to see more of this. Since you asked us to point out any rule mistakes, you forgot to check for "e002 Mercenary Royal Guardsmen" while north of the river. Keep it up!

    I've long considered making a PNP of this one, but I would like to put some time into making a nice, larger copy of the map matching the original design, and never quite got it to where I like. Might check it out again...

      Agreed - it would be lovely to have a great big, nicely printed map. Not sure I'd have the table space for it though :)

      @@lone_adventurer I re-found the map variant I'd most like to print up. I can't post links in youtube comments, but search for Android Arts + Barbarian Prince, then scroll ~80% of the way down the page to find a link to a re-worked map that's absolutely glorious.

    • @rylklee

      This might not be possible, but the looks of the map has me thinking it would be possible to adapt the map in wilderness survival to use in BP.

    I’ve never played any roleplaying game so I’m watching this to see what it’s like… It’s so cool… but almost as complicated and eventful as my real life… almost! 😂😂 Really cool to watch though, thanks for that!

    About the combat result table, my impression during the play was that the unpredictability makes it more fun. Sometimes you roll low, but the outcome is good, at other times you roll high, but the outcome is not so good. It surprised and made us laugh a lot (we played together with a friend). I just wish there were more games like this.

    • @lone_adventurer
      @lone_adventurer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Completely agree, the randomness in the combat is fun!
      There are a couple of games like this, I think. Most prominently, there's Drifter and Star Drifter (neither of which I have played yet).

    Did you get the rulebook printed and bound at a shop, or do it yourself?
    I'm curious because I'm from the UK too and I always see Americans talking online about how they print their rulebooks at shops like Staples over there really cheaply, but when I asked my local print shop for a quote to print and bind a 100+ page rulebook they quoted over £1 a page. Crazy!

    • @lone_adventurer
      @lone_adventurer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These rules I printed out myself. It took a while, though, and honestly they are not particularly user-friendly as they are!
      I often do printing using doxzoo, a by-mail printing company here in the uk. They are great - can recommend. Check out one of my print haul videos to see the quality. I'm actually about to print myself some new copies of Barbarian Prince with them, as it happens - someone has put together some really nicely-formatted copies, which are available in the Barbarian Prince facebook group.

    Hi Lone Adventurer !! Many people warned me that this game was very difficult to win. In fact almost impossible. I have tried and I always fail. But aside from that, there is one thing about the dynamics that I don't understand: what is the reason for such a large map. In the end, everything depends on being lucky in the dice rolls and being in one hex or another has no influence. I mean you have the same chance of finding a good treasure by searching in a ruin near the north or in another near the south. Or the same chances of being attacked by wolves in a forest in the east or in another in the west. That's why I don't quite understand the motivation to travel across the map. I don't know if I'm applying the rules wrong or if I've missed something. I admit that I don't speak English very well and I may not be understanding the rules when reading them. How do you see Lone Adventure?

    • @lone_adventurer
      @lone_adventurer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Indeed it's a tricky game to do well in, but that's one of the reasons many people love it 🙂
      In terms of moving around the map, I would say one of the main reasons is getting to the different settlements. Some of them have unique rulers and associated events that might happen - like Drogat castle and Huldra castle. Also, there's temples you can get to and desert regions that take some time to reach! But I'm far from an expert on this game, even so, I hope that helps!
