I used to be a member of SASS. My alias was the Gray Rider, since I never surrendered to the blue coats.
CooL! We gotta try it all, I say!
If you say 'Pew Pew' at any time, at any stage while participating you'll get a bonus.
lol!
My brother and a friend were so into SASS that they once flew into a match hosted next door to an airport, attired in period correct western garb. Oh, and their airplane was a two-seat Piper Colt.
A late friend of mine in Texas was an early SASS enthusiasts. He carefully read the rules which required the firearms to be of designs that were in production prior to 1900. So imagine the delight and surprise of the other participants when he showed up with a tripod mounted, belt-fed, Colt-Browning 1895 "Potato Digger" machine gun. He didn't enter it in the match, but allowed anyone to shoot it for $1 per round, the proceeds of which went to his local SASS club.
Great stories!
A cowboy emigrated to Wales
and opened a ranch at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Unfortunately, none of his cattle survived the branding.
That story just burns me up
friendliest people you ever want to meet too!
🤠
I sure hope that’s mostly true.
Had a fella at a gun show in Utah discourage me from starting by touting how good he was and how he’d been doing it longer than I’ve been alive. Just basically putting me down to uplift himself. Made me pretty upset, ngl.
I’ll eventually get into the sport but fellas like him do exist. They exist and they absolutely shouldn’t be at gun show greeting tables.
Haha you even put in the sound of Ear ringing / tinnitus in the into. That cracked me up!! 😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed
Ok that was a hoot. Thanks Jedi for your part as well.
Glad you enjoyed it
You’re welcome.
Got that up here in 'Straya. Hell of a bunch of guys!
Cool!
Greetings from the Alaska 49ers’ in Southcentral Alaska!
Yeehaw!
3:15 Great video Santee
Thank You!
Redleg Scottish Outlaw here, started in 2020 as classic cowboy
CooL!
Been shooting sass for 3 years got my dad hooked on the sport this year
Awesome!
You may have shot with my parents back in the 90’s. Their SASS #’s were under 500. They traveled to shoot at Winter Range several times.😉
I did most of my SASS stuff in New York. However, I may have met them!
I love CAS it is a world of fun. My best friend, used to say"Remind me to never get into a gun fight with you . I haven't been able to compete for a while due to cataracts but I am having the surgery.
HA!
Glad you are having the surgery to correct that.
Thanks for including Lawdog and Shortcake! Old Tucson with you was awesome!
Hey, it was awesome to meet you both!
It's the most fun I've ever had at a shooting competition. Very cool video Santee!
Really awesome to hear that!!!
Good morning Santee. It's Ted from Texas. This was definitely a seriously cool video man. It makes me miss the days when I used to do Civil War reenacting. I did a lot of it in Gettysburg. Some of it upstate New York. Had my picture taken so many times but so many people. Is exciting and educational. I did play on the losing team. But I tried to keep the history alive and explain to people everything that happened and why it happened. Thanks man. Hope to see you someday
Thank you, Ted.
Yup, first learned about the SASS back in the early 1990s, when I wore a younger man's clothes. Fantastic organization. Great video, Santee. 🤠
Thank You!
Wow! Your channel sure has grown. Proud to have been part of your audience from early onset!
Thank You!
Great timing...The SASS National Championship (Land Run) was last week, just outside of Oklahoma City. I managed to get Top Ten in my category in just my fourth year in the sport. I recognized a few people in this video, and shoot with some of them on a regular basis. You really do make lasting friendships from all across the country. Maybe I'll see you at Ides of March. -Diamond Jake
Congrats on the top ten!
Ok, that looks fun as hell.
Yep
Well done, as usual, Santee. Thanks again for including me.
Any time! You are important in keeping it all alive, Jedi!
@@ArizonaGhostriders 😊
It definitely is a lot of fun! It’s more of an obsession really, once you get into it you won’t stop buying guns and gear
🤠🤠
I used to do historical reenactment for the Fur Trade era. Same reasons. It does get expensive for playing dress up with a gun. But there’s so much more to history than just the guns and shooting!
Yep, and if you get lucky someone will pay you to do it.
I've been slowly acquiring the necessary bits of equipment for a long time, Santee! Joined up with the SASS a couple of years ago, but have yet to compete in a match! Should have picked the alias "Slowpoke Rodriguez" rather than "Butch Cassowary."
Still building my essential leather bits to hold up my pants and hardware!
LOL Thanks for the video!
LOL! As Slowpoke said, "I forgots to tell you. Señor Speedy...he carry a gun"
I always thought that Slowpoke Rodriguez would be a great alias! 🤠
Legit LOL'd at the double tap from the shotgun. I wish Hollywood would occasionally acknowledge the eardrum-shattering volume of a 12ga, ESPECIALLY indoors.
Yes!
That scene from open range is the best gunfight in any movie I've seen in my opinion. Cool vid
It's a great one.
Santee, Thank you very much for the best content on The Old West. You and your family have a beautiful and blessed weekend.
Same to you!
Thanks for the great video Santee. Last weekend was my first SASS shoot and I have never had a better time competing in shooting sports in 50 years. The folks were ever so friendly and helpful. You won't meet a better group. See you on down the trail. Bullwhip McKenna
Thank You!
The guns that win the west also won our hearts
Awww, that's awesome!
been with Jedhi myself some time Santee, he,s very good. lovely job Santee, thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it
🤠
I enjoy watching the competition between some of those fellers. Touching off one of those double barrel scatterguns can be a real blast BLAST!! It takes a bit for the smoke to clear and couldn’t imagine what it was really like in an old saloon back then. Thanks for sharing big thumbs up.
I will do a video on that one day to show how much smoke obscured a gunfight.
Cowboy action is fun! Cool video Santee!😃
Thanks 👍
Jedi, one of my other favorites. I think I have caught up on almost all of his videos. He has responded to every comment. An interesting family.
He's a gem
I’ll even reply over here @callawayken650 🤠
I've always thought that CAS looked like a total hoot.
Definitely.
thanks for posting this, this is something i will be doing soon
Good
My ancestors participated in a similar sport. It involved shooting and cowboys and cavalry and wagons and such. There were not as many rules with safety and dress codes, but getting disqualified was a bit more permanent ......
HAHAH!
these events are the only time you want some SASS from people 🤣
nicely presented and explained, Jedi and Santee
Thank You!
These competitions look like a blast(pun intended). I have to wonder that, if it were popular in the Hollywood Western days, if some of our movie cowboy heroes would participate. It would be cool to see John Wayne, Chuck Conners, Lone Ranger, etc participate in the sport.
It would.
Santee, *Jed i and your other guests were great. I had no idea such a sport exists. I can totally understand why safety issues are so important, especially with families involved. The audio, and visual clips were super, as always. The speed of some of the competitors is amazing!
👏🏻👏🏻🤠
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video Santee! A very cool hobby. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, you too!
You are correct, Santee … CAS can get expensive! The firearms and leather are the major expenses. Clothing, that is Period Correct clothing, adds to the fund outlay; however, NOTHING BEATS A MONTHLY MATCH … except a BIG MATCH!
Thanks for the video.
Arty Redleg, Panhandle Cowboys, Holt, FL.
Yes!
For me, CAS was the "gateway drug" that got me into Old West reenactment. When CAS got too expensive and ammo was impossible to find, I dropped out only to fall in with the Circle D Rangers.
For me it was enjoying performing and spreading history more than CAS
Thanks for covering this topic. It's near and dear to me.
Be safe out there, and take it easy man.
Much appreciated
Thanks again Santee & Co.
Any time!
I got to see a full on cowboy shootout in Silverton, CO when I was in my teens. Multiple actors! Seeing this video takes me back to that. AND you referenced one’d my favorite movies: Open Range! Thank you Santee! This was a very cool, informative video, and I enjoyed it a ton! Definitely doesn’t look any kind of easy.
Glad you enjoyed it, my gaming buddy!
Great job explaining this to. Best background around
Thank You!
Thanks Santee! Never a dull episode. Have a great weekend.
Same to you
Thank you FOR exposing the COWBOY ACTION SHOOTERS ! Well done..🌻
You bet
Looks like a heck of a lot of fun!
🤠
I know the lady in the zebra woolys. Ruby Red Rider. She shoots at our club.
Nice!
Missed the video drop this AM “cause I went to The Huron Valley Regulators first ever match! Had a great time too! Now our club’s Halloween Pumpkin-bash match is next Saturday.
Have fun!
Great topic, great video, a real Pew,Pew video.👍😅
Glad you enjoyed it
Great episode. Nice to see your channel really taking off. Long live the old west!
Much appreciated!
I've watched some of these events on youtube, they look like fun!!! They're using live rounds, but I believe some people use cartridges that arent as powerful as regular rounds? Just thought I'd mention that, not sure how true it is. Thanks as always Santee! It's not a weekend without your youtube uploads!
Thank You!
There are cowboy loads that tend to be less recoil, but I don't know how much less.
The rifle and revolver doesn't have any recoil due to very low power plus the target are very close. I'm not a hater just wish it wasn't that way and don't even talk about the fast draw competition lol
@@waterhead1359 Fast Draw doesn't use bullets or powder because of safety...too much of a chance of blowin' a toe off.
Oh interesting. I never knew that about fast draw competition. Thanks Santee! I've got some cowboy loads for my 44mag lever action. Shooting the real stuff at the range hurts 😂😂
@@frankrizzo367 I get it! Have fun with whatever you decide to do.
Hi Santee, when I was younger my daughter and I would be a part of a West show. Dressed in period with real guns of the time, but with black powder blanks. Also staged robbery's on horse back with good and bad guys falling shot off the horses. I stayed mounted LoL. We also guess you could call it cowboy action shooting on horse back. Shooting balloons filled with helium. The bullets were loaded with black powder and saw dust to pop the balloons. Sure miss those days. Great video Sir.🤠🇺🇲
That's amazing! Thanks for keeping the Old West alive.
Very cool and it looks like a lot of fun
Yep!
Love SAS I have been subscribed to JediTV for a while. I have watched all his videos. Yay Cowboy Action Shooting. Saving up my coins so I can compete.
Cool!
I'm surprised they haven't changed it to CowPerson action shooting😊
HAHAH! 🤠
😂😂
THat aint the right crowd...hahahaha
Hey Santee, what a great video. I never knew there was anything like this. What a great way to have fun and compete at the same time. Thank you for sharing! 🤠
You're welcome.
Great episode Santee,
I've been to a SASS shoot, but did not compete.
Have a great weekend.
JT
It's fun to try sometime.
Great Job
Thank You!
Every time I hear the clang of the metal targets, in my head I hear "Pan-shot! Pan-shot!"
🥃
About that map With a wife from the czech republic Cowboys and Cowgirls are big time there, shooting I have no idea I have not seen that there . Happy trails
Cool!!
I don't remember his name but there were a guy who where so fast that he could draw his revolver, shoot two shots and put is inthe holster faster than you can blink. It sounded like one shot but he hit two balloons that were side by side.
Bob munden
@@northrider8628 Thanks, that's the guy.
Yep
Great video Santee, thank you so much for sharing as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
Now this seem something fun, much love from Maryland
Thank You!
Been wanting to get into CAS for a while. Now that I’m retired, may just jump in!
we would love to have you.
Cool.
Good info. Thanks buddy
Any time!
So much fun!!! After Brazelton’s shotgun shenanigan, it would be awesome to see you get him back! I hear that ghosts don’t like microwaves…
Hmmmmm.....interesting idea.
Now you need to do one on CMSA. If I remember correctly they founded by SASS members who were riders.
Yes. I will at some point.
Great episode Santee! It was on target! Total bullseye!
HAHA! Thanks.
Thankful for the video. I am very interested just participating in this! Love everything about it. Good content!
Best of luck!
SASS is very fun I have been doing it about a year, not super active as I’m still saving for my guns… only need the rifle at this point.
🤠
Good start!
Used to go out to end of trail at Coto de casa and Norco. Good times
Been there and did that. It was a great time.
So very awesome and interestingly informative video, I really liked and enjoyed it and learned a lot about the old west.
Great job and well done, keep up the great work.
I got a lot of inspiration for the old west inspired dark sci-fi horror, paranormal and retrofuturism short story and series I’m writing.
I’m definitely going to add cowboy action shooting to my story and world.
In my story and world there’s also a arcade sport known as old west frontier light gun Arcade-Shooting gallery/Light gun ArcadeGallery and old west frontier laser tag.
Inspiration to create....yeah baby!
Jedi is what got me to go out and bought my first side by side.
He's a great guy!
I was in SASS years ago as Stubborn Dutchman in central NY. Now retired in Florida, I only compete with myself in the back yard, as I’m recovering from serious back surgery.
Hope the recovery gets better soon!
Great video santee. It looks like so much fun. Something I definitely have to do some day.
Thanks!!
very interesting , I would like that. another awesome job thank you
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Santee
Any time! Appreciate your invite and footage.
Love it Santee keep them cool vids coming. Love it
Thanks! Will do!
Deer folks at the Airzona Ghostriders
Can you do a video on the Arabian horse breed in the old west?
I did one on horse breeds. Thanks for watching!
Just gun cleaning today. Great video.
Thank You!
Hey Santee! One of these days I’ll get me a cowboy gun, but I wanna know about one of the classic cowboy condiments: Tabasco!
HA! Well, I think we do mention it in one of the food videos.
Love it hope all is well santee
Yes, thanks.
Man I wished we had this in Puerto Rico.
Me too!
Surely do miss my SASS/Cowboy Action Shooting (& reenacting) days!
Used to be S.A.S.S. badge #16843 as, “J.R. Butcher”.
(Sadly, due to financial issues after a difficult divorce, I no longer have my ‘73 sporting model, my 20 gauge Rossi SxS, & other necessary pieces.)
Anyway… Enjoyed your video (As always), & hope all enjoy the shooting sports safely!
Keep yer powder dry, pards!
Thank You!
I tried it out for a few months. How fun it is really depends on the local club. Unfortunately, there are also some clubs that are anything but friendly to others or welcoming of new members...
As with all hobbies.
Excellent video. Look at all that leather.
Yep
We always love your videos because we learn so many fun facts. HAHAHA. Keep well Santee my friend. 👍👍👍
Thank You!
Just bought my first black powder rifle!!!
Congrats! What did you get?
@@ArizonaGhostriders A .50 cal black powder muzzle loading rifle.
Another great episode
Thank You!
Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in…. I just figured out my budget for next month, now I need to add more ammo into my plans. 😅
Enjoy it!
Looks like so much fun! I wish I could be a part of it.
One day!
Great video Santee
Thanks!
That looks fun.
It is.
Such amazing vlogs forever I really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Santee how about a video on the Savage 99?
Thanks for the request!
Wait there’s a Robert Duval and Kevin Costner western?
Open Range.
