- Scenes lifted from a video of 16mm film circa 1938 - unfortunately the operator had serious "panning" disease and almost never held steady allowing the viewer to take in the scene. The crowds were bigger and the guards held them in & close. Good from a historical perspective! Note how few fat people there were !
totally amazing. my grandparents went there every summer after they were married in 1936. now i get to see what they did at that time. thank you so much
WOW, I've never seen this before. YES, you made a good point. Everyone looked slim!! No crap in our food and people worked their butts off in the fields and stuff. I saw more men in the water then women. And I also noticed SOOooo many more umbrellas back then, they weren't probably obsessed with tanning. What were they doing in the end? I was trying to figure out what they were shooting at. I could not believe HOW packed the beach was!
Wow... they are went down like bowling pins when the big wave knocked them down
That's damned good color footage for '38....or was it recently colorized?
almost everything is different from this day to now. Just imagine shotguns on asbury boards
these scenes are really great... I am a public relations manager for media company working on first feature length documentary about Asbury Park... we would be interested in obtaining rights of the footage you have posted here.. is this something you'd be interested in doing?
Daenuta - I had not scanned the comments for a LONG time. I don't have the "rights" to the original film and have no idea who does.

No problem. Thank you for replying..
(imho)This video looks to be late 1950's.
What is with all the guns at the end?
This is not 1938. In 1938 woman didn't wear those types of bathing suits nor did the men. It must be a miss print on the heading. Even the life guard boat looks to be the 60's...
Possibly mid to late '50's.
Gay is right, Infested with them.
What a shame.
