    Really looking forward to seeing this channel evolve. I'm a working class man, the product of a poor quality Comprehensive School education (due in no small part to my own foolishness). I came to a love of history later in life. This is a real treat for me.

    Really looking forward to this channel. I'm a young mother and I want my children to learn about their history - we'll be homeschooling to give them a proper education - hoping to use you as a great resource. I loved the Monarchy series, filled in so many gaps in my own knowledge!

      @firefly467 "Homeschooling".... 🤣... if Dr. Starkey was homeschooling his children (if he had any) one could entirely understand. But most ordinary people of average intellect only harm their offspring by erroneously believing themselves to be superior to those in the teaching profession. I feel sorry for your children!

    Wonderful stuff David, and very interesting that you did well at science and credit this for helping your search for truth and facts. I am a scientist and engineer discovering a passion for history and literature late in life, especially regarding the Scientific Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution, and determined to pass on this passion for proper thinking to my grandkids before their schools corrupt them beyond hope. You join the brave and capable few who give me real hope that this woke, postmodernist takeover of the West might just be halted and turned round in its tracks!

    • @kathleenstern6822
      @kathleenstern6822 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I too loved physics and chemistry at my girl’s convent grammar school. Eventually I did Pure Maths,English and French at A level, and at university studied Honours English involving Anglosaxon up to modern literature and also American literature, but also studied Philosophy and logic. It makes you a critical reader and thinker! It’s sad that they don’t do actual experiments in the sciences now as that was the part I loved! It’s very tame just watching a teacher do them.

    • @lindosland
      @lindosland 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kathleenstern6822 Yes, it makes you a proper critical thinker. Electronic design is very good for that too, because what you build fails to work until you get everything just right - those demon electrons are testing you out all the way; no teacher required! Do they really not do actual experiments?! We did lots, including micro-analysis in chemistry which was really quite intricate to get right. I have several grandkids I am close to in early years of secondary school, so I will ask them more about this. I believe that rational thinking is something that has to develop in the brain through synaptic pruning, which leaves only the most used network of connections. It isn't something you learn in the intellectual sense, it operates unconsciously in those who acquire the right brain structure for it. Those who don't acquire this network early just don't have logical thought, and are susceptible to the nonsense of postmodernism instilled by words alone.

    I feel as if Im inhabiting two different worlds, the contemporary and traditional and cannot make sense of either of them. This talk does plant a seed of hope though. Thankyou.

    • @edwardoleyba3075
      @edwardoleyba3075 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could look at them in a contemporary way, or in a traditional way. It’s up to you to correlate the two to begin to make sense of it all. There is always conflict between the past, (was that true), and the present, (is that true). You have the freedom to decide, in your own mind; what YOU perceive to be the truth. In other words, YOU decide for yourself but, always keep in mind that you might be wrong on some things.
      No one can be right 100% of the time. Formulate your own opinions but, always be open to others opinions. Listen to what they have to say, see how that fits in with your views, you’ll quickly learn how to ‘dovetail’ their opinions into your own train of thought.
      Your own thoughts and opinions matter.

    The only time I ever watched Question Time on BBC 1 was when Dr Starkey was on the panel. A litte bit waspish yes, but he told it as it was, and said things that really needed saying. What do we have now? A woke anodyne and utterly dull programme which dares not say anything, lest it offends someone. Do keep going Dr Starkey. You are certainly more popular than the self righteous and oh so easily offended snowflakes would have us believe. They may crave the day when you become a sort of Stalinist 'former person', but until then (heaven help us) keep on saying what needs to be said.

I have an extraordinary story to tell that starts right up your street with your old friends, the Tudors. It involves William Rippingham of Harborough Magna and his brother Thomas who were Clerks of the Great Wardrobe in the years running up to the Interregnum.

    I've subscribed, and I'm looking forward to many talks to come. I would love to hear your thoughts (maybe even a review) on Jan Morris's 'Pax Britannica' trilogy. I get a sense 'serious' historians are quite sniffy about the work (Morris was not an academic historian, after all), perhaps because her work is 'popularist' (that is to say 'accessible and entertaining' with a glorious wit and a melancholic touch throughout). 'Pax Britannica' happens to be one of my favourite (and most re-read) histories.
