    Just what I was looking for - Currently considering replacing an 8 bay 10GbE QNAP with a DS1621+ and 10GbE card.. so perfect timing!

    Why would you use two 400gb and not one 800gb NVMe SSD?

    Will 2x 10GbE link aggregation benefit me if im the only user? I have Synology DS1821+ and i plan to transfer large movie files (80Gb) and do video editing from my desktop. My Hard drives are 4x 8TB Ironwolf using SHR2 in 1 volume. Do i need to get 2x NVMe cache drives to be able to saturate 2x 10Gbe?

      If you are the only user you will see no performance increase with LACP.
      You do not need 2x NVMe drives for speed, however it will give you more storage in cache depending on how large your video editing files are for a given project that can be beneficial

    How much max SSD cache can you put in it? 2x 500GB?

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah 2x 480 (really 500, but 20 gigs are left for speed)

    the point is 10gbe switch for 4 or more ports still cost much, really need to thing about, Just got a 1621+ and load with 16T x2 HDD here

    Hello from Florida, Great video!
    I have a Synology DS1621+ with a dual 10Gbe Network Adapter from Synology installed in it.
    I also have another dual 10Gbe Network Adapter x540 t2 in my Windows PC machine installed.
    How can I create a 20 Gbe Network aggregation between these 2 devices without using any switches? I mean how to connect them directly to each other without using a switch. Is it possible to do that?
    Thanks.

      You will only be able to get a single 10GbE connection between any two machines. This is due to the way that link aggregation works.
      I have a video on how to setup a 10GbE connection '10GbE no switch'

      @@SpaceRexWill I made it happen! a dual connection 20Gbe directly to my NAS with static IP. without an additional switch. It is possible. i used Intel Proset software to combine 10Gbe into Team and it creadted a 20gbe network.

    I have a Synology DS1621+, 2 Synology SSDs, the Synology RJ45 10Gb Ethernet - this is connected to a 10Gb switch using CAT8 - which is then connected to my PC with CAT8. I have MTU set to 9000 on my PC and NAS. I am seeing transfer speeds around 400Mbs.. I can't help but think my 10Gb Marvell Aqtion NIC in my PC isn't optimized - I can't find optimum settings for the card configuration. So, what driver settings should I configure for the PC NIC - and also, how can I identify where the bottlenecks are in the transfers? Thanks

      @@SpaceRexWill I used your recommendations and I'm getting 1125Mb/s read and 1120Mbs write for sequential 8 queues. Random with 1 queue is as low as 20Mbs for both read and write. Thanks for your help by the way!

      @@SpaceRexWill Firstly, I wasn't using a good benchmark tool. Thanks for that recommendation. Secondly, I changed SMB in the Windows registry to disable SMB 1 and SMB 2 so that SMB 3 is forced. I also ordered another disk drive so that I have sufficient for saturation - should get that tomorrow... Question for you - what random access speed should I be seeing? Seems quite low.

    So I have the DS1621+ also, but don't have the SFP+ card yet. Planning to aggregate the four 1GPS RJ45s, but good to know. Were the two M.2s in a read/write, or both configured for read? Thanks again!

    • @SpaceRexWill

      Both Read, I really would not recommend a read / write for 99% of users

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @qmarq For the tasks that most users would find 'slow' really its reading as most writes are sequential while reads are random. Setting up a read write cache can have poor performance especially when you are dumping a ton of data to the NAS as the NVMe cache fills up (they have a small buffer of really fast write speeds) and then overall your writes will be slower.
      In all the testing I have done I have not found a good benefit for a home user to using a write cache
