Just posting a quick correction to tonight's news video - while both Bachmann & Accurascale are producing MK1 coaches, Accurascale's MK1s are the Non-gangway TO variety, the newly announced Bachmann ones are in fact different. The ones I showed were the TSOs. Apologies for any confusion I've caused!
However, Bachmann have announced 57ft Mk1 suburbans in a previous season at £34.95 each RRP. They are available for purchase from retailers now. These would be direct competitors for Accurascale

One thing I was keeping an eye out for that wasn't covered Sam: the Cavalex 56. I hope you're just keeping cards close to your chesg because I'd love love love to see you review one - they seem to be pushing the boat even further than accurascale for what is possible in 00, and yet still less than £200 for a DC model.
A You Tube channel in South Africa tested the class 31 uncoupling system and found it doesn't always work as the mechanism for lifting the bar doesn't lift it high enough for some other tension lock couplings. So whilst a good idea in theory it doesn't always work in practice. Many people have older tension lock couplings which it may not work on. Also there's no set standard location height for tension lock couplings even within Bachmann's own range and this uncoupling system requires absolute precision in location heights for it to work as designed.
The other issue with Accurascale is they want paying in advance. With Hatton's our orders for when they are dispatched which is much later this year or next. I have to pay for 4 locos by May. A note about the Accurascale warranty. My class 37 lights didn't work. I sent mine back and Accurascale said it worked for them. They blamed my controller. Yeah, honestly I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of Accurascale… they seem to be taking a stab at retailers since they are trying to get you to buy direct, and they aren’t supplying every retailer, and they seem to have some quality issues…

I mean you could get HO Rapido and run it on OO track. If they did some stuff like that in OO though they would also have to make bigger tracks cause other countries have wider gauges than the UK does
Regarding the Bachmann video. I managed to watch the video before it was taken down. It was very funny and well put together. Just a fun take on feedback. I mean feedback good or bad needs to be taken on board and acted on . Not shunned and silenced . I think its rather shameful from a big company like Bachmann. Very poor
I'm just hoping someone gets the Genesis Coach tooling and does further liveries as well as reruns of previous liveries, I would definitely buy more GWR coaches!
We got our TITFIELD THUNDERBOLT out last night and for the first time sent her off round the track. Superb from the first moment. Later on a slow inspiring one. One of our Younger Members said he would order one. Sad day for my wallet as I came limping home from FEBEX at Alton with a Wisbech and Upwell tram set. WHAT TOTALLY SET THIS OFF WAS BUYING IT FROM A STAND OPPOSITE TO THE Bachmann set up. Loved your review of this. D & L.
I got myself the blue bramble O1. Hope it sells well to show that even fictional liveries are worth exploring! I've seen plenty of engines with liveries that never go through, so this is an unprecedented event that could make way for a notable (even if small) change for the hobby. At least with rapido...
Well done Sam, I think your criticisms of Bachmann’s actions are entirely justified, especially as you are often quick to praise them when you describe much of their output in your reviews when it counts. Also, your comments about high pricing only reflects what many of us are thinking, and it is important to provide the companies with honest feedback. Keep up the good work. Much respect, Ian P.
Oh, some other news from Hornby. Remember that old and obsolescent 8F? Well, Hornby just re released it for over £200 at the retailers. And just under £250 at RRP. As far as I can tell from the pictures and description, the only upgrade is the DCC interface to 21 pin, and that new loco-tender connection. I think it even has the non standard front coupling.
They've upgraded the DCC system but in return downgraded it's appearance as the smokebox dart and top lamp iron are now molded instead of being separately fitted like it has been for nearly 20 years now. Definitely a Railroad range model in all but name honestly. The loco to tender connection was upgraded several years ago on a previous batch.
The Bachmann ones aren’t that bad, and if you get them without passengers, then they are significantly cheaper than the Accurascale ones, and they still look the part, so honestly I think it would be wasteful for Accurascale to make some, not everything needs to be made to the highest possible standard.
@@modelrailfan37 for their age, and updates they've had it's still a good representation. I bought a new Hornby TSO a few years ago and when I got it out of the box I thought I'd bought the railroad version by mistake, I wasn't happy with it at all, yet the 20 yo tooling of the bachmann was still better.
@@modelrailfan37 It was the first batch of the newly tooled ones and I had read the Hornby magazine review and thought I'd buy one. Given that I've got a few Hornby Gresley coaches and some LMS coaches with their super detail, sprung buffers, chassis mounted NEM pockets etc, I thought that the new Mk1's would be of similar quality. I was massively disappointed.
I'll be honest, I'm mixed about Bachmann's "copyright" takedown notice, on one hand I feel it was justified as I found that Locomotions video was just being too harsh and the direct insults at Proudman and the rest of the team were just not nessecary it seemed more like a blatant attack on Bachmann rather than a critical "roasting" video. On the other hand Bachmann had no reason to have his video traken down as he wasn't really breaking copyright nor was he being monetized for it either. Although after this fiasco it's fair to say I wont be renewing my Collectors Club with Bachmann anymore, I've frankly been utterly disappointed with the 00 gauge collectors range they've announced and I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth here at all...
YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH 😃 I’m so, so happy to know & hear that Hatton’s originals are going to Accurascale. Thank goodness really because I had fear for these models will going to be rare.
Sam.....love it when you get angry with manufacturers.....😂....can you do a review on Dapols O gauge Class 121 / 122 bubble car due to be released in March 2024 by Rails....I have had 6 of these models and all of them have had slow speed judder....I managed to find an older model which runs super smooth on slow speed settings....I have pre ordered a new 122 to increased my fleet but I have my doubts that they will have resolved this issue....many thanks....😊
A couple of things I noticed this month from Dapol, their second batch of moguls and their top light coaches are coming into stock. I understand that not making the video, but I imagine you’ll be excited to see those coaches Sam!
I'll go on record as saying I'm glad Bachmann has finally announced the class 31. It was no secret Bachmann were going do the 31 either, it was abundantly clear when they did the Farish N Gauge class 31 that they'd eventually do a 00 model although they did play their cards close to their chest on that one. I expect the same with the Stanier 8F eventually. I've not had much joy with the Accura 37, so am apprehensive about the class 31s I have on order from them. Bachmann on the other hand I find that while they are expensive they are also dependably reliable, and have announced some core liveries which Accurascale hasn't, so for me at least I get the liveries I want on a model I trust more.
Yes there are model shops which stock UK outline but the range is limited and usually very Hornby/Bachmann centric. The NRM editions and other manufacturers are almost never stocked in my experience. Of course the Rails, TMC and Kernow exclusive models are not available either. Interestingly, of the 4 shops listed by Accurascale as Australian stockists, one of those with a web site does not list any Accurascale models on their shop site - not even the brand in their list of brands, another has only a few of the Manors, and the third has a few of the wagons - but often just one in stock. Most are shown as sold out. None of these are within 1000 klms of my layout. One tends to fall into the habit of buying from the UK retailers and not fishing in the local puddle. All the best
I wonder why nobody has picked up on Bachman’s stealth preview of their new Ultra00 scale GNR Ivatt Single model to challenge Rapido’s 3 year old model. I think that they have to check that shade of green, the questionable lining and the proportions of the smokebox door…….
I agree with locomotion Martin. Bachmanns spring 2024 announcement didn’t amaze me just recycled models they done before with no new steam engines. I was hoping to see a 2nd run of the Johnson midland railway 1p tank engine As of all the rest like rapido. And accurscale taking over the hattons orignals ect I’m excited for them to come
yes sam bachmann was way out of the line. bachmann can burn bridges and they can in worst case lose ppls trust in the brand of bachmann. i have a thought can it be that bachmann is to sensative. thanks for a inteesting news show. 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪👍👍👍👍
I overheard a Bachmann rep telling my local model railway retailer that they don't sell many locos these days, most of the sales comes from the Woodlands range. It's seems that it that which keeps the company going. They and other companies are reluctant to make different models such as the Midland 2f or the L&Y Aspinall 3f. Such a shame.
The Bachmann copyright issue also shows something else; TH-cam’s policing of their channel. Over time this has gained a reputation for being arbitrary, secretive & heavy-handed.
This is just further evidence that Bachmann has competely lost the plot. They're embarrassing themselves at this point. 🥴 Good on you Sam, for standing up for the little guys!
Well I’ve watched videos before, not on a regular basis but only when it’s something that takes my fancy. You’ve had your critics in the past including trolls but took it on the chin. I quoted on another channel that mentioned you that I never saw the video in question and therefore wouldn’t comment. I was curious to see your take and what a thorough take it was. Down to the contractual details. I still haven’t seen it and never will, but fair play to you giving the company a theatrical challenge for the small channel guys n girls. You’ve gone up in my estimation and have even pressed subscribe.
I cant say I'd want to pay £150 for a fan and the uncouplerwhich when you view those features in isolation is what youd be paying. I could do with some more mk1s (at least 3) plus I'm kit building a couple. . What we really need is a new batch of Mk2A TSOs as im not paying over £70 for one, which lets face it, is an old model. Since the ship carrying Accurascale's mk2Bs has docked and considering we're waiting for them to clear customs before Accurascale go through the batches and send them out. Then a week to receive them means maybe 2 or 3 weeks to get them.
Hi Sam, I just wanted to give you a update on my GER P43 project. I've just finished rebuilding the running board and now I'm going to focus on making the cab. I'll still keep you up to date :) Cheers Jasper & Willow
Honestly, £99 is still an amazing price for the P class and Andrew Barclays, especially given the high quality of them and that original price. You wouldn’t get that from other manufacturers.
Well done for speaking out against Bachmann's wrong copyright claims against Locomotionmotion 's criticism, Sam. Hopefully your pointers about copyright rules will give them something to think about
Completely agree regarding Bachmann's copyright claim. IMO abusing the TH-cam copyright system is one of the worst things a channel can do to another channel. Really poor behavior.
Bachmann have missed a trick on the uncoupling feature pricing out of the vast majority of folks pockets, blimey £360 for the insane privilege. They didn’t say if fitted to both ends. It would be funny if McKinley claim copyright on it, they did this years ago - they nick named it the uncoupling shuffle if I recall correctly; can’t remember which DCC chip manufacturer had the feature they adapted to programme in. It opens up the market for someone to offer as a kit and get out to the masses. Just imagine the call off if they offered this as an upgrade on the basic model and if engineered to easily fit a range of other existing models - I think Bachmann have missed a massive sales opportunity! A very balanced perspective you gave on Bachman’s abysmal copyright claim and associated take down - a direct attack on free speech, fair criticism, comedy et al.
It's kind of sad that Bachmann decided to take down Locomotion Motion's video. And it was very unfair choice too. Pity we have to deal with situations like that. Anyway, great material as always. When I first saw Accurascale's Fireless Engines I read actually "Fireflies" so I guess I need to buy one now and order custom etched nameplate for it haha ;D Cheers, Take care!
Hiya, Bachmann have at least highlighted his channel lol but while I felt his video was unkind, if Bachmann had just kept quiet this would all have blown over. It is however a complete misuse of the copyright claim process which should really result in Bachmann's channel being punished. If not TH-cam has some questions to answer. A very unfortunate development within the hobby.
For several years a German company could not even be named on one of the forums - there was a court injunction - the owner was incredibly unhappy with the criticisms levelled at him with no right of reply - All articles, reviews and comments were taken down - Things can get ugly. The company went on to produce some exceptional models but no one could talk about them - consequently it is very hard to find any records of that companies products on the web beyond a few items for sale in shops.
14:19 i think someone or some people there are big Great Western fans cause we got a locomotive, a pair of coaches and bunch of ready wagons and more on the way Just seems like a coincidence
If I go for a class 31 be a Accurscale one , bachmann are way too expensive now, and think most will go for the Accurscale one too? I am definitely going for their mark 1 suburban coaches as got so many great features , ive got a Accurscale siphon G which is fantastic so think their mark 1s are going to be great.
The analog Bachmann 31 is the same price, but I understand where your coming from. I believe the normal sound fitted one is the same price as well, and it’s worth noting that Accurascale have been wiring their speakers wrong causing the sound not to work on sound fitted models (Check out Chadwick Model Railway’s Class 37 video for more info).
@@modelrailfan37 yes I saw that video , for me personally I am not that bothered about ' super detail ' as long as it looks OK and runs well and is more durable like the older lima / airfix/ mainline ones as they looked the part and have a few of these and run ok , I think now people want less high end and more affordable railway stuff now.
Dunno why but those Accurascale Rustons would look nice in the ATSF Zebra Livery , Pennsylvania Brunswick Green , the CBQ Everywhere West livery , both South Omaha Terminal liveries, and Belt Railroad of Chicago
I like Accurascale models and have bought from both retailers and Accurascale itself. I made the mistake of adding a current stock item to a preorder. Acurascale say they do not retain any current stock against the order and will look to see if they still have some when the preorder finally arrives. The communication from them was not at all friendly - “your fault; suck it up” is the gist. Their website has improved to make the issue very clear that this will happen in certain circumstances. However, it is unclear whether it applies to an order of 2ABs which might arrive in separate shipments. Other posts about getting lights fixed indicates that the post sale service side at Accurascale is lagging the manufacturing and QA elements.
I must say, that’s pretty bad customer service. Also, I wouldn’t recommend that you buy directly from any manufacturer, as the retailers need support, otherwise they will go out of business, just like what happened to Hattons to some extent.
@@modelrailfan37 You are right on both counts and I do buy direct only when I cannot get them from a retailer. I was after their crews for the Accurascale GWR engine I had bought from a retailer. The crews were not available from retailers and sending them to Australia by themselves would have more than doubled the cost. I will put a separate response on the price increase on that comment thread.
@@mkaustralia7136 oh yeah that totally makes sense then, didn’t realize you live overseas. Edit: I just realized you channel name says Australia in it, sorry for my ignorance 🤣
@SamsTrains is there anywhere to get a list of the best model of a locomotive, obviously taking into account price and availability etc? Im trying to get into modelling and its hard to know which ones are good or bad. Back in my youth ylu went for Hornby all the time but clearly that isnt the case anymore, any help would be much appreciated, thanks
The original video made no mention that the footage was copyright of Bachmann, yes it showed the name and logo but no acknowledgement was made. If Bachmann were in breach of copyright policy TH-cam would not have taken the video down. Some of the comments made about the staff could have a damaging effect on the mental health of people and could be considered as cyber bullying, which unless I'm mistaken is a crime that is being heavily punished and clamped down on in this day and age?!
Bachmann pulled the same stunt in the US with the USRA Light Mikado. Broadway Limited had/has a very good version in the hobby and established themselves as a quality product for that loco class. Bachmann came out with theirs. It is $100 cheaper and you can tell. BUT for the same cost as a new Bachmann you can pick up as used (and in good shape) of the same class for a better loco in every respect. Sound, detail and quality are all better, even with an older QSI decoder.
Good for you Sam. You are right, they are wrong. This is censorship and they should have a thicker skin. What the hell are Bachmann doing?. Who is buying their locos at these prices?. Hornbys 31 is ok but they just don't make enough of them. Accurascales will fill the gap and I will be buying at least 2. They are going the way of Hattons if they keep this up.

I watched the locomotion motion video, before it was taken down. I thoughtt it was funny and on point.
Thanks for watching, and your comments :)

Well done Sam,
I think your criticisms of Bachmann’s actions are entirely justified, especially as you are often quick to praise them when you describe much of their output in your reviews when it counts.
My friend from uni worked on the graphics of the firelight steam locomotive. He’s a graphic designer for Rapido.
Good on you for standing up for other channels! I am really interested to see if you do get a response.
Well said and well done Sam
👍 excellent review!
I'm hoping that accurascale come out with the Mk1 corridor stock, until then the bachmann Mk1 is the market leader
@@Jamesb944 lol, was it something that dated back a long way and is just being sold with a high price?
@@modelrailfan37 It was the first batch of the newly tooled ones and I had read the Hornby magazine review and thought I'd buy one. Given that I've got a few Hornby Gresley coaches and some LMS coaches with their super detail, sprung buffers, chassis mounted NEM pockets etc, I thought that the new Mk1's would be of similar quality. I was massively disappointed.
@@Jamesb944 oh I see, yeah the Hornby ones aren’t the best
We need to have Dickie Dickson to critique Bachmann on their insubordination
Roasting someone isn’t illegal though 😂
@@CymruJedi I never said it was illegal...
@@SprattyHeath It's also not morally wrong either. Stop defending the soulless corporation.

YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH 😃 I’m so, so happy to know & hear that Hatton’s originals are going to Accurascale. Thank goodness really because I had fear for these models will going to be rare.
I can’t wait to get the saddle tanks by rapido and I can smell the bill and Ben customs from here
Sam.....love it when you get angry with manufacturers.....😂....can you do a review on Dapols O gauge Class 121 / 122 bubble car due to be released in March 2024 by Rails....I have had 6 of these models and all of them have had slow speed judder....I managed to find an older model which runs super smooth on slow speed settings....I have pre ordered a new 122 to increased my fleet but I have my doubts that they will have resolved this issue....many thanks....😊
Bachmann ultimatum made me smile thank you Sam
I’m at least delighted to see Alfred and Judy in OO. Also Accurascale has saved Hattons’s toolings. That’s awesome.
Well done Sam for letting bachmann know that they can’t bully us modellers my channel is relatively small with only 111 subscribers
Hope hornby will make more Lner stuff in the future
I wonder why nobody has picked up on Bachman’s stealth preview of their new Ultra00 scale GNR Ivatt Single model to challenge Rapido’s 3 year old model.
I think that they have to check that shade of green, the questionable lining and the proportions of the smokebox door…….
I agree with locomotion Martin. Bachmanns spring 2024 announcement didn’t amaze me just recycled models they done before with no new steam engines. I was hoping to see a 2nd run of the Johnson midland railway 1p tank engine
As of all the rest like rapido. And accurscale taking over the hattons orignals ect I’m excited for them to come
3:27 but it does cover it if it wares out due to 'deficiency in materials or workmanship'
yes sam bachmann was way out of the line.
bachmann can burn bridges and they can in worst case lose ppls trust in the brand of bachmann.
i have a thought can it be that bachmann is to sensative.
thanks for a inteesting news show.
🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪👍👍👍👍
Bachmann have NEVER liked any critical comments, even went meant to be constructive and helpful.
@@mrbluesky2050 and bachmann can lose trust whith costumer and stockist a like.
Why don't you mention the new Cavalex Class 56? Always enjoy your videos Sam. Well done!
This is just further evidence that Bachmann has competely lost the plot. They're embarrassing themselves at this point. 🥴 Good on you Sam, for standing up for the little guys!
Nuff respect to standing up to Bachmann, with style and class.
For a comparison PIKO have been doing FLIRT models for a few years in European International liveries in HO.
Glad to see the tooling''s will survive Hattons.
I'll still keep you up to date :)
Cheers Jasper & Willow
Honestly, £99 is still an amazing price for the P class and Andrew Barclays, especially given the high quality of them and that original price. You wouldn’t get that from other manufacturers.
It’s a good price, but I still don’t think a price rise was necessary, just saying, Hattons probably would have honoured the original price.
Well done for speaking out against Bachmann's wrong copyright claims against Locomotionmotion
's criticism, Sam. Hopefully your pointers about copyright rules will give them something to think about
Completely agree regarding Bachmann's copyright claim. IMO abusing the TH-cam copyright system is one of the worst things a channel can do to another channel. Really poor behavior.
Oh yes Sam!! F’ing brilliant, go get em!!!!!
A very balanced perspective you gave on Bachman’s abysmal copyright claim and associated take down - a direct attack on free speech, fair criticism, comedy et al.
hi Sam. great video, how many class 31s do we want ?am sticking with my Triang version, tried and tested.
I've got a new-fangled Airfix one!
Review cavalex class 56 please 🥺
It's kind of sad that Bachmann decided to take down Locomotion Motion's video. And it was very unfair choice too. Pity we have to deal with situations like that. Anyway, great material as always. When I first saw Accurascale's Fireless Engines I read actually "Fireflies" so I guess I need to buy one now and order custom etched nameplate for it haha ;D Cheers, Take care!
13:25 can we all agree that when Sam gets bold, it's always good
Im excited for the "What If" Livery on the O1! Hope this starts a trend in the industry!
I literally spat my tea out when you said ‘bachmann are from another planet’ 😂😂😂
Sam, why didn't you talk about the finalized CAD of Locomotion No. 1 from Hornby? It looks stunning!
14:19 i think someone or some people there are big Great Western fans cause we got a locomotive, a pair of coaches and bunch of ready wagons and more on the way
Just seems like a coincidence
I love the port of pars my favourite loco I had a fire ing session on Judy back in October
Any reason you didnt mention the newly announced Bachmann Class 69 - now on Rails for pre-order amongst other sites.
It’s not a new announcement - just an update as far as I know - it’s been announced since 2021
If I go for a class 31 be a Accurscale one , bachmann are way too expensive now, and think most will go for the Accurscale one too?
@@ianstransporthistorystuff8175 exactly, that’s my point! This hobby is getting expensive, and budget models are now more important than ever!
@@modelrailfan37 yes I agree and these are so needed especially if we want to see new and younger people come in to this great hobby.
Is anyone taking over the hattons laser cut baseboard kits?

Good on you for shining light on Bachmann’s rotten actions, Sam! Deplorable abuse of the copyright system.
I’m in Canada and I have a semi-local retailer that stocks British models, is there not anywhere in Australia that does, I thought lots of you guys model British stuff?

I enjoy when you do the news. I am curious about the entire Bachman drama. I hope that it ends peacefully!
Awesome video today Sam really looking forward to the black 5
