    I am super proud to announce the release of an eBook project I have been working on over the past few months!
    This book is part one of a series that will cover the histories of every Division that was active in the British Army from September 1939 - January 1947. Part one covers the Armoured & Cavalry Divisions.
    The histories in the book cover a Divisions full story, from its formation to disbandment, and everything in between, including movements, actions, planned moves, key dates, commanders etc. Also included is a full outline of a Divisions movement in the U.K. and in the post-war period, two topics that are often overlooked in the historiography of the British Army. For some of the Divisions, such as the 9th Armoured, 10th Armoured and the 1st Cavalry, this is the first time in over 80 years that their war chronicle is told in full.
    If you are interested and would like to purchase a copy of the book, be sure to check out the link below:

      speaking 'of leading the way, your BC. rgr. that
      after the military, in 2006, i served in RC-north-mazar sheriff for years and then kabul. this is great from a historical perspective of october 2001.
      not of these mens' doing; look at the waste for the nest 2 decades.
      2,476 US personnel (civilian/military) killed. we drop the 20yrs of doctrine, policy, run away with our tail between our legs and "surrender". it was a policy/doctrine surrender not "a" bs: withdraw.
      after two unconditional surrenders in europe and asia in late-1945, then most of the military personnel "withdrew" back to the U.S. "that" was a withdrawal.

    Never heard of this opening op, or that two Rangers died. The conventional story has always been that Rangers dropping onto Bagram was the first action, and that CIA Officer Johnny Michael Spann was the first casualty. I'm impressed with your info.

    • @LibertysetsquareJack
      @LibertysetsquareJack ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Span would still be considered the first casualty, in terms of hostile fire or enemy action being what put him out; the five Rangers were wounded (two mortally), but not from hostile action.
      Granted, further info could be declassified in future, but as of right now Span is officially the first KIA, while the two Rangers were wounded during the course of an operation, not from hostile action.

    The "we did it because we could" method of operation lol I love it. Sometimes you don't have to directly engage an enemy to show them they're outmatched. In Iraq we carried out patrols at night because the enemy couldn't see us, but we could see everything. The Iraqi insurgents were a fearless bunch, but they did not fuck with us when the sun went down, and when we would move on them, it put the fear of God into them. Time and time again, I'd watch our 11B's kick in doors while I sat buttoned up in an Abrams tank chainsmoking Newports waiting for the word to swing the turret on anything they thought was sketchy. What a time that was.

The day we started occupying the cities and interfacing with the new Afghan "government", it was over. By the time I arrived in theater in 2007, the momentum was gone. It was just chaos. A shame, really. I'm glad we got OBL, but I think we could have done this whole theater of war very differently and achieved the same results.
