If Hunchback ever comes on Broadway, that'll make it the 3rd (yes, 3rd) musical stage production of Victor Hugo's sotry, including the show "Notre dame de Paris" and Vox Lumiere's "Hunchback of Notre dame"! Wow, Quasi must be pretty popular having 3 musicals based on the story^_^
this was here in the early 1990's i remeber seeing it with my cousin before she passed away. It was her fav show, we have a picture in the living room with us and the whole cast signed by them, it was so magical at a young age. Thankyou so much for posting.
I had the pleasure of going to this show on its final day, I went to 3 out of the 4 shows and on one of my Disney cruises I belive that I got to see this Quasimodo on stage on my cruise.... there is just a sense about him that I know it was...... I miss this show so much.
I love this show and was heart broken when they closed it. I thought that was un-called for. I recently went to Disney's Hollywood Studios a few weeks a go on holiday and the Backlot Theatre was having a refurbishment. Since my last visit in March 08, the building has been painted yellow and the roof is Black and they've added an extension as to where the back seats of the theatre used to be. I prey the show or something new will be there
They have the sound stage, the bells, and eveything else, but there useing the set to hold the Osborn lights for Christmas. The show closed in 2003 The old stage is now covered by a set that looks like San Fransisco, you can kinda see into the set if you stand on a bench near by.
I remember this show. I loved it, it was my favorite show too. I remember I kept smiling during this whole performance because it was really done for the stage. Thank you for letting me remember my childhood. I miss it so much.
@MTwannaB4jesus They did a stage version in Germany with parts of the story changed to be more faithful to the book, so it's even darker and I guess they were unsure if it would be marketable in the US. Fortunately you can find most of it on youtube. peterhorse's videos include the english lyrics ;) I hear there might be an english release, but whether it'll be a big Broadway release remains to be seen.
Oh man, what I would pay to have seen this live! It's so sad that Hunchback seemed so non-existent at Disney World when I went earlier this year. I couldn't even find one character-actor from it. )=
Oh geez I remember auditions for this... I really wanted to be in this but I was too short for pretty much ever decent thing to do... But the auditions were so much fun
Little be known that the Hunchback of Notre Dame was suppose to be an intermediate show only to last for three years. As it stood the test of time with jam packed audiences, this show lasted seven years. Disney was flooded with requests not to kill this show but it was character intensive (expensive that means) and the show would interfere somehow with the Lights, Camera, Actions Stunt show. While the stunt show is excellent, It was not worth destroying this show and Residence Blvd.
I miss this show. I think I have somthing no one else does from the show, I went to the show one day dressed as Esmerelda and I got to go Backstage and she said "I think your missing only one thing" and she gave me her gold braclete. It would be the happiest day in the world for hundereds of people if they bring this show back.
This needs to be made into a Broadway musical ASAP!!!! I remember watching this show. Anyone with theatre connections please consider it...Broadway needs it!
I don´t believe that because I assume (and hope for you) that the Broadway version will be based off the German stage version to which Menken did write all of the additional music, too...
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you put this up! I ADORED this show. As much as I love the rest of MGM Studios (or whatever they call it now), this was the one thing I made sure to see/do every time I was there. I was never a fan of Disney's movie version, but this stage show was AMAZING. Everything about it was fantastic. It is so sad that they replaced it with the Lights, Motors, Action! show. I like that show a lot, but I don't see why they had to remove HoND to put that in. =o(
This is so cool! But I still crack up since they have to try to milk all the entertianment out of it so all the characters spazz! LOLOLOLOL Thanks so much for posting - I've always wanted to see this!
When the curtain fell away and we see grown Quasimodo for the first time and the chorus starts singing . . .that gave me serious chills. Reminds me of the Lon Chaney film (amazing version, by the way). This would make an amazing Broadway show, and I'm a bit wary of Disney films being transferred to stage, but I'd pay to see "Hunchback" onstage.
@anngeexgohnzahlez They ARE making it a broadway mucial! 8D They are adapting from the German version, (which is fantastic and even more mature) just look it up on google and you'll find tons of stuff. I'm in love with this story, and have watched every movie and adaption. It ha so much power, emotion, fun, and beauty at the same time. Plus, Claude Frollo is probably to most deep and interesting villain to ever be, I actually sympathized with the man once or twice in the book.
Oooo, I like the way Clopin tells the story better in this than in the movie! But I like his movie singing better..... But he's my fave character all around. ^^
What ever did happen to the Backlot Theatre? I haven't seen it ever since that Stunt Show arrived a few years ago. Is it still there but empty or is it gone? I miss that theatre. I can't believe Hunchback's gone as it was my favourite show there. Any reason why they closed it besides the stunt show being near there or something?
@anngeexgohnzahlez it's not a disney movie. the original story was written by Victor Hugo in the 1800s, and takes place in the late 1900s. You would probably not regret reading the book. It's meant for adults, and ends nothing like the Disney version
I would love to direct a full stage version in the West End. It would make a great show. A few more songs. It could be really good. It's the best Disney film.
@anngeexgohnzahlez This show closed in 2002-2003, Idk for sure but it use to run around the place where Lights Motors Action took place. That San Fransisco Backdrop is where it used to be... They close it for money purpose. I had a friend in the show. Beauty and the Beast ran at the same time as it did but still does. And yes, by far my favorite Disney Movie! PERFECT BROADWAY MUSICAL!!
You know, I don't know why they kept those damn Gargoyles. This movie really does deserve a good broadway adaptation. It's unfortunate that the execs stepped in and ruined the film's chances of success, because aside from the Gargoyles and a few wimpy moments it's one of Disney's best and most thrilling. Alan Menken's work here is some of his very best...except, of course, for that lousy song with the Gargoyles.
Im worried that they'd make it really stupid and silly! If uv ever heard anything bout the german production, it was really very dark and fantastically performed...wonderful, truly as good as the film
sorry for the horrible grammer it was about three in the morning when i did that... but i love this. i used to watch it everytime i went to disneyworld. I miss it a lot. anyone know why they quit doing it?
i agree with you! i'd much rather mary poppins to leave but i'd be fine with lion king being replaced. as much as i love lion king, i'd much rather see hunchback of notre dame!
@anngeexgohnzahlez I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! i think this should be disneys next broadway venture. you're right this must have been the show before beauty and the beast. i dont remember this, but it seems familiar. maybe they did a revised version that i saw when i was little, or what i remember is amimazement.....doesn't matter anyway. i just love this movie and music.
i remember this from the 25th anniversary of the park in florida. it was hot at balls that day i feel sorry for the guys in costume. personally, i like the movie better. the live production seems a little half-assed, but well done all the same
The movies are usually better than the park productions. It's nothing against the actors, but they have the abridged version, or have to compete against the standards in the movie with no original stuff. The Broadway versions of the movies, however, are usually pretty good.
I have a lot more videos of the show. these where the only ones i had on dvd. Plus i just went thru to get most of my favorite leads. Most of the rest of them were after '99 so I'm sure i have you somewhere either on tape or film.
i will work on it. its a pain cause they are still on tape so I have to transfer them to get them on the computer. I even have Matt performing his routine with the brooms that he worked on in the last year.
O_o oh my dear god!
1) PUPPETS! (that made me happy)
2) the guy playing Quasi has some damn good pipes!
this was here in the early 1990's i remeber seeing it with my cousin before she passed away. It was her fav show, we have a picture in the living room with us and the whole cast signed by them, it was so magical at a young age. Thankyou so much for posting.

i'm stoked!!! it's great that they're having steven schwartz working with it since he helped to write the score int he movie as well!
@MTwannaB4jesus They did a stage version in Germany with parts of the story changed to be more faithful to the book, so it's even darker and I guess they were unsure if it would be marketable in the US. "Besides, you're all forgetting one big thing."
Clopin: "What?"
Hee hee.
Oh wow, it's been years since I've seen this. This is absolutely marvelous! Quasi sings really really well!

I went to MGM a couple weeks ago, but I never saw this. I don't even know if they still have it there.
man I saw this way back in the day - like eleven years ago!!! It's amazing, though. Super cool! :D
This needs to be made into a Broadway musical ASAP!!!! I remember watching this show. Anyone with theatre connections please consider it...Broadway needs it!
if disney would make this a brodtway musical, it would be so amezing! and fantastic, that would be the best.
The man who plays Clopin sure looks like the animated Clopin
I don´t believe that because I assume (and hope for you) that the Broadway version will be based off the German stage version to which Menken did write all of the additional music, too...
thank you so much^^ i sadly never saw this musical in real but thanks to you i can really see it
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you put this up! I ADORED this show. Thank you so much for posting it!!
nice play,my favorite disney's master piece is this one!!
I miss this show horribly. DDDD':
This is so cool! But I still crack up since they have to try to milk all the entertianment out of it so all the characters spazz! LOLOLOLOL
Thanks so much for posting - I've always wanted to see this!
Is this an English version of the show that ran in Berlin? That was a really, really good production.
When the curtain fell away and we see grown Quasimodo for the first time and the chorus starts singing . . .that gave me serious chills. Reminds me of the Lon Chaney film (amazing version, by the way). My friend's mom was Esmeralda, lolz.
This Quasi is pretty good, too!
@anngeexgohnzahlez

Well, kudos to you. This was a good production. You're a good singer.
once this left the theatricality and the Hollywood Studio's went down
(btw MGM is now the Hollywood studios)

LeVerne sounds like my still-sane grandmother, lol!
I would love to direct a full stage version in the West End. It would make a great show. A few more songs. It could be really good. It's the best Disney film.
Ahhh I saw this when I was 8! Thanks so much!

This was a wonderful show

was beauty and the beast the oldest disney show?
Impressive show
i agree with you! i'd much rather mary poppins to leave but i'd be fine with lion king being replaced. as much as i love lion king, i'd much rather see hunchback of notre dame!
Really? That's so cool! I love this movie...T_T
@anngeexgohnzahlez I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! i think this should be disneys next broadway venture. you're right this must have been the show before beauty and the beast. i dont remember this, but it seems familiar. maybe they did a revised version that i saw when i was little, or what i remember is amimazement.....doesn't matter anyway. i just love this movie and music.

i saw a thing like this when i went to Disneyland as a child
I used to love this show. Well my parents didn't cuz they had to wait in the humidity to get the best seats
Beauty and The Beast was at the studios at the same time as this, Hunchback was near what is now Lights Motors Action
Cool, do you know why they decided to close this show and would you think they would ever make it return? Do they still keep the sets and costumes?
COOOL! PUPPETS!
i hope that the musical will be playd in deferidt country like beauty and the beast,so i meybe get a chance to see it.
xDD i remember seeing this. xD
when'd they take it down? ;-;
i remember this from the 25th anniversary of the park in florida. it was hot at balls that day i feel sorry for the guys in costume.
personally, i like the movie better. the live production seems a little half-assed, but well done all the same
YES! DEfinately! Broadway!
they already did. It's very good but it was shown only in Germany
He is totally lip-synching. Is that normal for those shows?
The movies are usually better than the park productions. It's nothing against the actors, but they have the abridged version, or have to compete against the standards in the movie with no original stuff. The Broadway versions of the movies, however, are usually pretty good.
I didn't know they made this into a play...
can some tell me what this is ? a musical or just a show ?
what year was this recorded?
Didnt Schwartz only write the lyrics an Menken the music?
Ah no I see the mike, now.
well pity the german version with songs all by Menken was great. what kind of proof?
Yeah.
I Wish this was still goin. My dream is to play Clopin. Id do better than this guy.
I even have Matt performing his routine with the brooms that he worked on in the last year.
actually no he isn't.
