  • We created this video from snippets of commentary, video outtakes and photos from our Power and Serenity filming back in 2006-8. There is much here, rare commentary from Lou and videos of him doing Compact Canon and the 21 Form. This video - entitled The Art of the Straight Line (Lou's title) was shown this past weekend for The Bells celebration. Great editing and imagination from Radd Icenoggle here in Montana. Lots of folks contributed to the content of this video including Tony Visconti, Kevin Hearn, Sarth Calhoun, GuangYi Ren Matt Bockelman and so many more.

    This is absolutely sweet.
Seeing Lou slightly smiling. Expressing some enthusiasm for doing things with feeling rather that balancing suffering through music.
Everybody loves his music, few consider the amount of suffering there was behind.
    I hope he found peace.

I shook Lou's hand and he squeezed it like a madman. It pissed him off that I didn't wince. I'm not a trained fighter but I come from decades of heavy abuse and my dad grew up in East LA. Safe to say I rarely feel pain and I can really hurt someone if needed. I felt honored that he let go and walked away.

People don't move in a series of straight lines, they move in a series of arcs and circles, which is very obvious from the two-person drill. Also, Lou and the other guys (minus the teacher) all have their asses sticking out, losing rotation of their hips and verticle spine. Love Lou, but I wouldn't take tai-chi or chi-gong lessons from him.

What works and what doesnt for self defense is a heavily inflated and widely debated topic as you might know.
