Marcel Carnés "Le jour se leve" (F 1939) was adapted by Anatole Litvak as "The Long Night" (USA 1947), Nicolas Boukhrief' s "Le Convoyeur" (F 2004) became Guy Ritchie's "Wrath Of Man" (USA/UK 2021), Élie Chouraqui's "Man On Fire" (F/I 1987) turned into Tony Scott's "Man On Fire" (USA/UK/MEX 2004), Luc Besson's "Nikita" (F/I 1990) was remade by John Badham as "Point Of No Return" (USA 1993), Julien Duvivier's "Pépé le Moko" (F 1937) got transformed into John Berry's "Casbah" (USA 1948), Mike Hodges' "Get Carter" (UK 1971) also got a US-version, Stephen Kay's "Get Carter" (USA 2000)... Each and every remade listed here remains to be inferior in comparison to the original classics some studio and some producer attempted to re-imagine.
I can't agree with you about Let Me In. I agree that Let the Right One In is a better film due to it being the more nuanced film based on the source material, but the remake is a good film in its own right. It has solid performances and production values. I enjoyed both films.
I was fortunate enough to watch "Dragon Tattoo" in Swedish, and thought it was excellent with subtitles. I have no interest in seeing the English language version.
"The Ring" (2002) vs. "Ringu" (1998) "Oldboy" (2013) vs. "Oldboy" (2003) "The Vanishing" (1993) vs. "Spoorloos" (1998) "The Uninvited" (2009) vs. "A Tale of Two Sisters" (2003) "Dinner For Schmucks" (2010) vs. "The Dinner Game" (1998) "City of Angels" (1998( vs. "Wings of Desire" (1987) "The Eye" (2008) vs. "The Eye" (2002) "Quarantine" (2008) vs. [REC] (2007) "Shutter" (1008) vs. "Shutter" (2004) "The Tourist" (2010 vs. "Anthony Zimmer" (2005) Although I haven seen all of "Les Visiteurs" (1993), the Hollywood version, "Just Visiting" (2001) looks like "a swing and a miss" to judge from the original's "Saracen delivery driver" scene. th-cam.com/video/cyZkhCeQ7aU/w-d-xo.html
None of thw originals were ruined. They still exist, unsullied, and you can even enjoy them in the comfort of your own home. If anything, the remakes ruined themselves.
Quite curious. You show an extract from Wim Wenders "Der Himmel über Berlin" in french. Though it was a French/German movie, it was shot in German (they speak German in Berlin), then later, you show another extract from "Anthony Zimmer" (The Tourist) which was a French film, but in the extract the actors are dubbed in german.
I totally agree with Le Femme Nikita as it was way better than "Point of No Return". I also say that Korean film "Man from No Where" was far superior to "John Wick". The villains were more evil and the hero has a better relationship with the victim. Critics have called "John Wick" a video game and I agree. The acting of Won Bin was way better. A better script, better acting and the cinematography was way better.
Hollywood’s version of Ju-On, The Grudge is also not as good as the original. Even though the actor and actress who played the original ghost boy and his mother also starred in the remake, it didnt help. And they made it even worse with the second remake in 2019. Actually, most japanese horror movies that were remade by hollywood are never as good as the original. Other examples are one missed call, pulse, and dark water.
ThankU Interesting!! I missed all of these. Except Wings Of Desire, which i found beautiful. Except i went with a friend who thought it was silly & repeatedly laughed AT it. She's a cynic. Solaris. The original Russian is hauntingly beautiful. I only watched a few minutes of the American remake, immediate let down
Quarantine didn't ruin anything as America makes anything from eUrOpE better. Also, not including Ghost in the Shell on this list as number 1 makes me think you don't even like movies, bro.
I agree with every film on this list except for The Ring. I think that was a worthy remake. I would have put Diabolique on the list instead.

Please stop using Rotten Tomatoes as proof of anything, apart from lazy journalism.
Outside of Ringu/the Ring! Rotten Tomatoes was spot on!
Agreed, it's not some authority. And the ranking is way too high for the remake of Ringu, which is dreadful and dumbed down for American audiences.
Rotten Tomatoes are more trustable than TH-cam TBH.
Hollywood absolutely stuffed up “girl with the dragon tattoo “and “Let the right one in..”

La Femme Nikita 1990 - Point of No Return 1993
Hollywood version of Ringu was actually good!
"The Ring" (2002) vs. "Ringu" (1998)
"Oldboy" (2013) vs. "Oldboy" (2003)
"The Vanishing" (1993) vs. "Spoorloos" (1998)

Watch the original version of "Diabolique" (French) and compare it with the American turkey. It should have been your #1.

I am sure the list is endless. Hollywood is always overrated.

Great film: Let the Right One In
Lazy Hollywood remake: Let Me In
A great example of a great Hollywood remake: Le Cage Aux Folies-The Birdcage
There was also the Japanese film Shall We Dance that was remade and the French action film Banlieue 13 that was remade as Brick Mansions.
Forgot "La Femme Nikita" and "Pount of no return"
Dinner for Schmucks that's the pig party episode of Married with Children.
Thank you for puting Ring on the list. Original is great, remake is nothing.
The remakes of PULSE (KAIRO in the original Japanese) and MARTYRS, especially, were very poor.
Hollywood’s version of Ju-On, The Grudge is also not as good as the original. Solaris. The original Russian is hauntingly beautiful. I only watched a few minutes of the American remake, immediate let down
The Weicker Man, Pink Panther, Get Carter, The Magnificent 7, Godzilla (1998), Bangkok Dangerous, The Departed: terrible remakes.
@@laoaganlester1728 "WICKER Man"
The magnificent 7 is not great but def above average.
The Ring may not be better than Ringu but i think it's a good film. Didn't ruin anything.
Why didn't you include Funny Games?
Because both are good (all frames were copied) thanks to Michel Haneke who directed both.
Swept Away. So good, the American remake so bad.
9 Reinas was destroyed in the american remake Nine Queens
The Departed is nowhere near Infernal Affairs
LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE!
Quarantine didn't ruin anything as America makes anything from eUrOpE better. Also, not including Ghost in the Shell on this list as number 1 makes me think you don't even like movies, bro.
Why this obsession with horrors?
Lazy Hollywood at its best!!
Hollywood cannot touch Asian horror. Stick to woke film making.
surely, most of all: INFERNAL AFFAIRS > THE DEPARTED
