I probably should have commented on why I heavily pruned the camellia. It was suggested by a keen gardener Japanese friend of ours. She said that the pine tree should be the centre piece there and it would look more balanced if the camellia was shorter. (It was getting out of control a bit anyway). Originally, the camellia (and pine tree) would have been much smaller, carefully pruned and shaped (you can see the bend in the pine tree), as is typical in a more traditional Japanese garden.
Have turned overgrown weeds and bare soil into a beautiful lawn. It must be wonderful to sit and look at what your hard work has brought! Until next time, take care.
I love the finished look. The pine tree has a bonsai feel and the other looks so much more balanced. I would have been scared to cut that much off myself but it does look so much better

Three years have passed, and it is amazing to see how much progress you have made. It is again a stunning house that I am sure it was when the original owner built it. This vid makes me miss tree pruning. Its sounds like a chore but there is a relationship that develops with the trees and they respond with increased growth, density, and fullness as if the appreciated hair cut or growth correction.

If you're pruning any pine trees put the needles round your azaleas to help acidify the soil 👍

Glad you liked it - living in the country certainly suits us right now.
I have those same spirea in my yard in western pa. That's amazing to me. Those hydrangeas are gorgeous! Everything you have done with the garden is incredible. I did not know what it looked like in 2019, so your progress is inspiring.
Thank you! It's a beautiful plant when fully blooming.
Every time I see your house I see the pride and joy you must have.

Just the antidote for a cool and cloudy day in Alberta!
You've put a lot of thought into how to lay out your gardens. They look wonderful!
It's amazing how things have established themselves over only a couple of years.

I have watched your videos from the very beginning and have enjoyed each one. I cannot believe it’s been three years. Your house has come along so beautifully, I absolutely love it! You have made great progress on the yard but, you know, it will never be “done” as there is always something to do in the garden. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Greetings from Seattle 🇺🇸
No worries, thanks for watching!
three years ago I got to know your channel because I was interested in going to japan and buying an abandoned traditional house like yours is an attractive option to me. Three years have passed, and it is amazing to see how much progress you have made. It is again a stunning house that I am sure it was when the original owner built it. For myself, I will be going to Japan to attend a PhD program in September. I like the feeling that we are all growing in terms of life goals and that our love for japan is bringing us closer physically.
Such a beautiful transformation. Watching your home come together has been a pleasure!
Amazing transformation in just 3 years. Makes me tired just thinking of all the work you've done.
Wow! Liama!!
It was a pleasure lQQking back and seeing the progress you've made of your property.
I can recall when you first lQQked into buying and all the work needed. You & your wife have worked very hard to truly make this a spectacular home!
Thank you Tokyo Liama!
No worries! I'm glad you think it lQQks good!
Your yard looks so good! I really like that leaning pine tree that looks like a giant bonsai. Also, I want to get into bee keeping too!
Beautiful! Have neighbors and townspeople stopped by to appreciate how you’ve rescued this property?
Yes, we get some people - usually acquaintances of my mother-in-law visiting, plus people have a look on their walks along the road behind the house.
This vid makes me miss tree pruning. Its sounds like a chore but there is a relationship that develops with the trees and they respond with increased growth, density, and fullness as if the appreciated hair cut or growth correction.
It's obvious you love gardening. The yard looks very nice and your home and yard are stunning. Love your videos
Yes, love gardening (my wife thinks more than woodworking...) Thank you!
Garden looks great. Great compliment to the amazing looking house.
Thanks for providing the older progression footage. I completely forgot how much work has already been done.
No worries, I had almost forgotten as well!
Your garden is so beautiful. It's great to see all the hard work that goes into it. Please keep making videos! I love to see the progress.
