Moved into my first apartment a few years ago, and I moved out of a 4 person house to live with my bF. We moved into the place together, and we had a pantry, a lot of cupboards we thought we'd never fill. We thought we had ALL the space. We're buying new shelving units.

Maybe. But just having a separate pantry means the food clutter will all stay in that cupboard, not in a passageway. Drawers in the kitchen for the dishes is a great safety measure for earthquakes, too.

Garden is a huge change from when you first showed the house! The kitchen is great and the area by the window looks lovely. Always bowled over by what a great house this is and by your careful custodianship of it. Not to mention the hard work you have brought to reviving it.

that pocket jig really is a lifesaver. great progress. the tools are also, wonderful investments as you'll be using them for years to come for other projects I'm sure. once you become accustomed to making things yourself. it's hard to go back to buying overpriced things. but wood is ever costly. finding a place near you that sells reclaimed wood is a godsend.
Wow! The kitchen looks amazing. Can I make some suggestions? Don’t make wooden inserts for your gomi box. Get some square or oblong plastic buckets that you can easily lift out because you will want to wash them with hot soapy water and disinfectant. Even some from Daiso would do for the time being. Particularly if any ants or other creepy crawlies find there way in. I agree with the plan to cover the kitchen bench top with the same top that’s on your kitchen island. You have two small boys who will put things on the bench without thinking, so an easy clean/care surface will take the stress out of worrying that the wood will become damaged. I’m thinking circles from the bottom of cups and glasses, maybe a hot teapot burn, a sticky peanut butter knife etc. Vegetable baskets - you could get some wire basket drawers and just make a front cover for each basket that matches the wood on the gomi box. You might have to thin it down so it’s not front heavy. I have no idea if the baskets are available here but have seen them used in wardrobe configurations at home. They also usually come on wheels. Different topic - have you thought about asking for sponsorship from your local DIY store or from wherever you bought your tools? Filming other people’s renovations is a great idea. I’ve actually recommended your channel to a number of my students, just told them to put the English subtitles on and enjoy.

Any basket will do to store them in, they don't need to be wire but a bit of air to circulate is good. The key is darkness. One thing that you could do is use a noren to cover the gap and provide some pattern as well as darkness. They can also be washed if they get dirty. Just a thought. Also, that idea of Aussie Girl in getting some rectangular plastic buckets for the gomi box is the best idea. If you get the buckets in different colours then the kids can see where to sort their rubbish.

I love this house so much. I hope there are many others who are rehoming and rehabilitating these pieces of historical architecture. Another Great video!👍 I actually met the inventor of the Kreg Jig (pocket screw jig)! I worked at a specialty wood shop when they were just starting out and making their rounds promoting them. I remember being very impressed by the sales demonstration. Also, remember that your pets are a part of the family ❤️ their scratching posts are necessary and I don’t think they’re ugly at all! It shows you love your cat/cats and consider they’re needs over esthetics.

if you have a lot of time or are bored i can recommend adding magnets to the garbagebin so it snaps into place and needs a tiny bit of force to open it

For your waste sorting bin, if you find it often being pushed too far under the counter, add a small furring strip to the underside of the counter so when you push the bin into place, the back of the handle hits the strip when the bin's face is where you want it to normally be. It's a quick and cheap fix that will keep you from having to readjust the bin when you're walk past it lol Still loving your house and the work you've put into it really shows!

I have a suggestion. In the event of an earthquake, things in the pantry may fall. It may be better to put some fall prevention fence on the shelves.
Ah, good point! I've seen some simple twine strings used for that in movable tiny houses (yes, on TH-cam 😉) - that could work here, I think

That's a good idea. You can get reclaimed wood quite easily I believe as they knock down so many old houses here.

Another Great video!👍 I actually met the inventor of the Kreg Jig (pocket screw jig)! I worked at a specialty wood shop when they were just starting out and making their rounds promoting them. I remember being very impressed by the sales demonstration. Also, remember that your pets are a part of the family ❤️ their scratching posts are necessary and I don’t think they’re ugly at all! It shows you love your cat/cats and consider they’re needs over esthetics.

if you have a lot of time or are bored i can recommend adding magnets to the garbagebin so it snaps into place and needs a tiny bit of force to open it

For your waste sorting bin, if you find it often being pushed too far under the counter, add a small furring strip to the underside of the counter so when you push the bin into place, the back of the handle hits the strip when the bin's face is where you want it to normally be.
It's a quick and cheap fix that will keep you from having to readjust the bin when you're walk past it lol
