वेबिनार एक विशिष्ट प्रकार के वेब के वर्णन के लिए नवनिर्मित प्रयोग है। यह विशिष्ट रूप से एक-तरफ़ा है,जैसा कि वेबकास्ट में वक्ता से श्रोता के बीच बातचीत, एक सीमित औपचारिक बैठक होती है। वेबिनार, सहयोगी हो सकता हैएवं प्रस्तुतकर्ता और दर्शकों के बीच पूर्ण भागीदारी के लिए सत्र में मतदान तथा सवाल और जवाब शामिल करने की अनुमति होती है। कुछ मामलों में, प्रस्तुतकर्ता एक मानक टेलीफोन लाइन पर बात करते हैं, जबकि स्क्रीन पर इशारा कर सकते हैं जहां सारे दृश्य प्रस्तुत होते रहते हैं और श्रोता अपने खुद के टेलीफोन से जवाब दे सकते हैं, स्पीकर फोन बहुत आराम और सुविधा प्रदान करते हैं। वीओआईपी (VoIP) ऑडियो तकनीक को निगमित करने के लिए बाजार में वेब कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग प्रौद्योगिकी उपलब्ध है, जो पूरी तरह से वेब आधारित संचार को अनुमति देती है। प्रदाता पर निर्भर करते हुए, वेबिनार छिपे हुए या अनामी सहभागी को कार्यक्षमता प्रदान कर सकते हैं, उसी बैठक में सहभागियों को अन्य सहभागियों से अनजान बना सकते हैं।
The word ‘webinar’ is a blend of ‘web’ and ‘seminar’. A webinar is an event held on the internet which is attended exclusively by an online audience. This distinguishes it from a webcast, which also includes the presence of a physical audience. Other terms used as alternatives for webinar are web event, online seminar, webcast, web lecture and virtual event.
