  • The 'Mandra Dhaivat Repose'
Madan Mohan's admiration for Akhtaribai Faizabadi (Begum Akhtar) was well known.
There are many subtle instances, in the composer's body of work, wherein some melodic infexions of the the gayaki of Malika-e-Ghazal have been used.
One of them is a short melodic phrase that descends and reposes on the dhaivat of the lower register ('mandra saptak').
A short medley to illustrate this point.
(In this case, the composer of Akhtaribai's ghazal is Khayyam Hashmi but that 'Dhaivat-dive' is quintessentially the singer's style.)
Birh centenary tribute to this remarkable tunesmith.

My name should be be even thought of (leave alone being mentioned!) in the vicinity of the composer & singer. :)
Glad that you liked the medley.
(You can safely omit the 'ji' after my name. I am in my mid 50-s & a 'da' as suffix should be fine). :)

Now we know where the inspiration and those mesmerizing tunes came from. From the little clip at first, one sees that the artist is of a very high calibre and very melodious. Lata's voice was the dream fullfilled of the great Madan Mohan's compositions. As they say, 'jis tarah ek awaaz ko talaash hoti hai ek khubsurat dhun ki, usi tarah ek dhun ko talaash hoti hai ek khubsoorat awaaz ki". Both ends meet when any music composer made Lata sing their songs. She gave them much more than they expected and surprised them with the brilliant results. That was the divine magic of Maa Saraswati Lata Mangeshkar. Thanks for sharing this beautiful medley!

      Yes. Nice connect.
(I had this song in mind but excluded it to retain the more striking ones. This is because of a time limit for a presentation in a music listening session.)
Two more songs that I left out were the two lesser-heard solos of Lata Mangeshkar in Haqeeqat.
'khelo na mere dil se' *& 'aayi abki saali diwaali'.
Both have the 'dhaivat-dip' in their respective antara-s. :)
