Hindsight is 20/20. Rocketpass and the item shop wasn't added as an improvement to allow players access to more items. Now that they banned trading, it has been made apparent Epic's intention was to squeeze as much money from the playerbase while simultaneously disguising it as high quality updates.
I don't know why y'all are shocked behind this. Once Epic Games bought out Psyonix, that was the first clue that they'd eventually go the Fortnite route with "rocket pass" and microtransaction lockdowns. Sucks that everyone got duped, but the shock behind it isn't really warranted.

The thing I don’t understand why the didn’t just start their own item selling website all they have to do is spawn any item they want so they could take all the other sites costumers by selling for very low prices. Sure it would destroy the trading prices but everything they do tanks the prices anyways and I’m sure we would prefer that over losing trading

at least rizzo got something from epic, I found a game breaking bug about a year ago, emailed epic with documented proof, and they straight up just told me we'll look into it but won't give you anything for sending this in. Like a week later the bug stopped working, and I never got a damn thing from them.

Damn, I had to give up RL because my pc was not powerful enough to play it above 20 fps and thought of coming back once I was able to buy a new one, but I guess it'll never happen now. What a shame.
Everyone who had hope is giving up on the game. Which is a shame that they threw away the large portion of the community who still had hope by subverting all expectations and releasing a game in the epicverse, removing trading, halting RLCS to do so, and not saying a word about anything. Then going on to say they are back to refocusing on rocket league after all of that without a proper statement or idea for what they are going to do next. I dont have hope they will ever add a creative mode, update to UE5 (which if done correctly will make the game run smoother, have better graphics, and more), add more options to training, EVER bring back trading, etc. So many good ideas out there to help casual players, competitive players, esports organizations, tournament organizers, etc. where all the individual features (apart from creative modes and such) are easy to impletement as proven by bakkesmod. I also dont have hope that they will allow bakkesmod to exist. I understand that they went through layoffs and such but to put ALL of their resources into a sub-game for a different community is absurd... As for the Dropshot thing, I recommended they rotate snowday and dropshot myself a while back. The populations of those 2 gamemodes are too low individually and although I agree dropshot is the best "extramode" it's annoying to play/grind due to its low population.
Btw there were ways to keep trading. I.E. making only inventory locked items transfer between games with an option to perma-lock said transferable items on RL to allow them to transfer over. And of course all items bought in item shops were already trade locked so it woulda worked regardless...
Grinding the game does not even work any longer. I am in lobby where my lack of skill is still 10 times better than others i can carry 1vs3 and next game i get gc just destroying all of us. They didn't just stop updates, they destroyed the core element to level where it is not fun to just play either. I am casual player who enjoys ranks. I am happy with my diamond. I was low champ at one point ( done even know the ranks) and now i am sitting in low diamond and the opponents are so all over the place thst you might just go free for all and have supersonics play bronze at this point
rocket league perfected this kind of car based movement with jumps and boost and all this sort of physics. they've thrown that all out the door and made something dumbed down and simple using trackmania style maps. imagine neglecting leth and not bringing him on for rocket racing after all these years of map design.

They were lying to us for 4 years now, anouncing UE5, seeking for devs and all of that was to make a Rocket racing that seems soooooo garbage ! Dropshot is their most unique game mode imo. An octagon and the way you score goals brought forth a meta and strats on the higher levels that are absolutely insane. They fucked us all over.
Nah it’s crazy how every update only makes the game slower or worse. They’re treating this game like they just want to farm the player base til it dies when in reality if they just put in a little effort they could grow it
Rocket league is so unique the only thing they can really do is just add maps and game modes. The core mechanics can’t really be changed. And they know they can’t get new players to come into the game.

this update seems like it was just a big middle finger from Epic Games, literally right after they announced that they were removing trading they gave us Lighting McQueen to make us feel better, and then when they did remove it Rocket Racing came out 3 days later and we haven't even gotten our items yet. plus this season is literally dogsh!t. 1 they removed trading, 2 they removed drop shot, 2 they changed the ui in the slightest way and called it a "update", and 3 they reskinned 3 maps, not even changing the background just changing the floor texture. i understand that the Pysonix devs were working on Rocket Racing but at least update something good in Rocket League, not to mention that Rocket Racing is literally just a game mode in fortnite.

Im not sure if it was mentioned since I’m halfway into the vid, you brought up workshops. And guess what? Since the game was removed from steam many new players or folks who have upgraded to PC later on, all lose access to steam and it’s workshop! Horrible move!
yeah, love the new and improved UI update, as if they didn't learn from the last one. when they changed the UI it took like four more button presses to do the same thing the quickplay button did. now it's even worse because if you spam A/X you get sent to rookie aerial training, forcing you to wait an extra year for "UI fade times" to pass. It's like the devs don't test the game before they release an update, let alone play the game in general. absolutely terrible devs because not one of them notice that the UI is broken everytime they change it? oh yeah, rank disparity bug... been two years now and it still hasn't been fixed, the devs are a joke and will continue to be.

Dropshot isn't gone. It rotates in ranked with Snow Day every other season. So next season we get Dropshot back. Plus the one that isn't there will be in casual here and there.

Psyonix is literally the least caring dev I've ever seen. I feel more taken care of by Activision selling me the same CoD for years than what Psy & Epic are doing.
rocket league is dead, my matchmaking has been screwed and has been stuck on plat 2 for about a year (idle tm's, trolls, and early ff's). For the first time in a while I stopped solo queing and played with my friend whos a Champ 3 on the verge of Grand Champ 1. Was so much more fun having a tm even against players 9 divisions above my own and won half of the games with about 400-600 points consistently. The only fun in the game solo is playing against bots offline or 1's, which btw are never that fun to play.
It is really easy to understand. Epic games is give a lot more support to Fortnite because it makes the game more money... its simple. They don't have incentive to make RL better because the game simply isn't make the company that much money
I like Snow Day, thank you 🤣 But Dropshot isn't gone, it's on a rotation. Every week they change the modes, so SD will be out and DS will be in. Gotta read the patch notes, people.
I joined the game right after Epic took over. I keep hearing people talk about how Epic doesn't ever update the game, or add anything new. What new things or updates were added before Epic took over? I'm not trying to defend Epic or anything, I'm just genuinely curios. I mean at its core it's just car soccar. I can't really see anything else that can be added to that outside of skins and cars. And Epic has done that a lot the past 3 years since I started playing. Again I hate Epic as much as the next person, but as someone who wasn't here before they took over, I'm just curios.
For a start, certain mechanics weren't in the game such as flip resets. Psyonix added the ability to keep your flip if you were to go airborne without using your first jump. Secondly they added ALL of the extra modes (not including knockout). As well as this they supported the esports scene with significant funding and built the scene around it's community. Also they significantly updated the visual fidelity throughout its lifetime with better textures, lighting, etc. Not to mention that they also made improvements to training, added tournaments. They added the ability to change goal explosions and trails. Their events weren't deceptive, events that Epic make showcase the best items in the trailers (although it's not hard to be the best when they are all terrible) and then only make the worst one's available through natural gameplay. Server maintenance was also a bigger priority when Psyonix was in charge, still not perfect but it was a lot better. They also added more regions such as OCE as playable servers, speaking of which they then supported into getting said region into RLCS. Psyonix would also release IRL products that tied in with the game so you could get exclusive rewards and cosmetics. But one of the biggest things of all was that Psyonix would actually communicate with their player base, we had a couple of years where we got a road map for upcoming features. Honestly that's just scratching the surface when it comes to overall content and diligence from Psyonix. P.S. On a side note Epic acquired Rocket league on 1st May 2019 that's longer time than Psyonix being the sole owner by several months

There’s more to RL than just the basic regular matches. Psyonix over the years added essentially every unique game mode, rumble, snow day, labs, training mode, custom maps, custom training modes, not to mention loads of core game mechanics like flip reset and actual good battle passes. They also continuously updated graphics, added new maps and patched bugs, and supported the esports scene more than Epic ever has.
Why the fuck did they change the menu, there was nothing wrong with it in the first place. They need to stop doing stuff just to do stuff and give us a central server, or fix the servers.

They put permanent LTMs on rotation and knockout, I'd say apart from the DS thing this was a good update

Was it worth no updates for 4 years ? not in my opinion.. and on top of that, instead of adding new things into the game, they're even removing stuff.. thats insane to me and im almost at the point where i want to quit the game that i love so much because i feel betrailed. They released SSL, tournaments, freeplay shortcuts, anthems, and knockout. The rest afaik has been skins on top of existing models.
Dropshot is their most unique game mode imo. An octagon and the way you score goals brought forth a meta and strats on the higher levels that are absolutely insane. They fucked us all over.

Rocket league is so unique the only thing they can really do is just add maps and game modes. The core mechanics can’t really be changed. And they know they can’t get new players to come into the game.

Workshop maps for console would be a good start? Community maps? Updated garage? Fixing ranked? There's tonsss of things they could've done, but didn't. There's no excuse.

this update seems like it was just a big middle finger from Epic Games, literally right after they announced that they were removing trading they gave us Lighting McQueen to make us feel better, and then when they did remove it Rocket Racing came out 3 days later and we haven't even gotten our items yet. plus this season is literally dogsh!t. 1 they removed trading, 2 they removed drop shot, 2 they changed the ui in the slightest way and called it a "update", and 3 they reskinned 3 maps, not even changing the background just changing the floor texture. i understand that the Pysonix devs were working on Rocket Racing but at least update something good in Rocket League, not to mention that Rocket Racing is literally just a game mode in fortnite.

Also, they didn't remove dropshot, simply rotating the competitive playlists of dropshot and snowday. Meaning this season there will be comp snowday and casual dropshot, next season they rotate. and as far as the maps I feel like even a new map is just filler, at the end of the day no one gives af about new maps after 10 seconds, playing always feels the same regardless the map. obv issues with epic and psyonix, but most of this stuff is normal

Im not sure if it was mentioned since I’m halfway into the vid, you brought up workshops. And guess what? Since the game was removed from steam many new players or folks who have upgraded to PC later on, all lose access to steam and it’s workshop! Horrible move!

yeah, love the new and improved UI update, as if they didn't learn from the last one. when they changed the UI it took like four more button presses to do the same thing the quickplay button did. now it's even worse because if you spam A/X you get sent to rookie aerial training, forcing you to wait an extra year for "UI fade times" to pass. It's like the devs don't test the game before they release an update, let alone play the game in general. absolutely terrible devs because not one of them notice that the UI is broken everytime they change it? oh yeah, rank disparity bug... been two years now and it still hasn't been fixed, the devs are a joke and will continue to be.
Its smart that they dont add extra modes. The community would play them for 1 week and then it becomes snowday 2

I’m not trying to be that guy, but what is there to update? It’s not like the game needs updates (apart from some server issues). I think the hate is just over them taking away trading. Which I don’t care about to begin with. If the servers aren’t populated in the game modes they have, they will take them out. That happens in every game. I mean I’m still learning the game so who am I to talk?

@sizz Selling the game to Epic was always obviously a catastrophic idea. Rocket League is a real physics based sport. Epic games does NOT want sports or the spirit of healthy competition. They turned off the player count immediately and began destroying the games activity and community. This was obviously on purpose.
All Epic cares about is that you buy fortnite skins, kill everyone in the lobby, and 'emote' shake your ass to their newest Travis Scott collab. THESE COMPANIES ARE ENGAGED IN HOSTILE TAKEOVERS. Dropshot isn't gone. It rotates in ranked with Snow Day every other season. So next season we get Dropshot back. Plus the one that isn't there will be in casual here and there.

Bro my two favourite games are rocket league and overwatch, I am going through this crisis two times over
rocket league is dead, my matchmaking has been screwed and has been stuck on plat 2 for about a year (idle tm's, trolls, and early ff's). For the first time in a while I stopped solo queing and played with my friend whos a Champ 3 on the verge of Grand Champ 1. Was so much more fun having a tm even against players 9 divisions above my own and won half of the games with about 400-600 points consistently. The only fun in the game solo is playing against bots offline or 1's, which btw are never that fun to play.
It is really easy to understand. Epic games is give a lot more support to Fortnite because it makes the game more money... its simple. They don't have incentive to make RL better because the game simply isn't make the company that much money

I joined the game right after Epic took over. I keep hearing people talk about how Epic doesn't ever update the game, or add anything new. What new things or updates were added before Epic took over? I'm not trying to defend Epic or anything, I'm just genuinely curios. I mean at its core it's just car soccar. I can't really see anything else that can be added to that outside of skins and cars. And Epic has done that a lot the past 3 years since I started playing. Again I hate Epic as much as the next person, but as someone who wasn't here before they took over, I'm just curios.
For a start, certain mechanics weren't in the game such as flip resets. Psyonix added the ability to keep your flip if you were to go airborne without using your first jump. Secondly they added ALL of the extra modes (not including knockout). As well as this they supported the esports scene with significant funding and built the scene around it's community. Also they significantly updated the visual fidelity throughout its lifetime with better textures, lighting, etc. Not to mention that they also made improvements to training, added tournaments. They added the ability to change goal explosions and trails. Their events weren't deceptive, events that Epic make showcase the best items in the trailers (although it's not hard to be the best when they are all terrible) and then only make the worst one's available through natural gameplay. Server maintenance was also a bigger priority when Psyonix was in charge, still not perfect but it was a lot better. They also added more regions such as OCE as playable servers, speaking of which they then supported into getting said region into RLCS. Psyonix would also release IRL products that tied in with the game so you could get exclusive rewards and cosmetics. But one of the biggest things of all was that Psyonix would actually communicate with their player base, we had a couple of years where we got a road map for upcoming features. Honestly that's just scratching the surface when it comes to overall content and diligence from Psyonix.
P.S. On a side note Epic acquired Rocket league on 1st May 2019 that's longer time than Psyonix being the sole owner by several months

There’s more to RL than just the basic regular matches. Psyonix over the years added essentially every unique game mode, rumble, snow day, labs, training mode, custom maps, custom training modes, not to mention loads of core game mechanics like flip reset and actual good battle passes.
They also continuously updated graphics, added new maps and patched bugs, and supported the esports scene more than Epic ever has.
Have u even seen rocket racing? It fkn looks like an old mobile game.
