I have been really happy with it. It is so light and comfortable with the Galco Royal Guard I have... sometimes I forget I'm carrying it. I tried the laser grips out and was very impressed. I was able to get on target (about a 4-5" inch group at 10 yards) from the hip with the laser. This seems to be the perfect revolver- for carry anyway- and the price wasn't too bad either. Thanks for watching.
Those grips are the crimson trace lg-105. They don’t add any size same as factory grips basically. Lg-305 adds length to grip so you can get all fingers on it.
I don't think I'd sight it in at 15 yards, unless just for kisk, because if this is a defensive weapon, it's gonna be hard to claim "self-defense" on a bad guy out at 15 yrds. Right?
I chose the 642 because of the stainless barrel and cylinder. I was concerned about rust since this gun sees some "adverse conditions." I actually prefer the looks of the all black 442...
I don't know what it costs to purchase the 642 with crimson trace grips. I purchased the crimson trace grips separately from the revolver. I can tell you the revolver was about $350 (new) and the crimson trace grips were $150 (new on ebay). There are other styles of laser grips made by crimson trace that cost more than this though. Thanks for watching!
I'm getting laser grips for mine, after seeing this video. Adds to your success defending yourself if knocked down, on your side, in the dark-- whatever-- esp. with a short-barreled gun.
This pistol works well with a SmartCarry or pocket holster as well. Although not my daily carry gun (I carry a 10+1 Ruger SR9C in 9mm +P), there are times when I have to use a different holster arrangement. The 642 in a SmartCarry is way better than leaving your gun at home!
Carry mine everyday. I don't have a reliable "wondernine" yet and not sure if ill make the switch to auto's. Havent decided if i was gonna spend the money on a Crimson Trace grip. If i did i was gonna go with the green laser which i think is like 100 dollars more than the red. Anybodys opinion?
A Glock actually has fewer parts than most wheel guns. Probably my only semi-autos I would bet my life on (Glock 26 & 19). If I were to get another carry gun, I'd take a hard look at Kahr or a Colt Mustang. I actually prefer semi autos because I've shot them more, enjoy shooting them more, and most carry model autos are thinner than a revolver cylinder. When I carry my 642, it's because it's lighter. I mainly got the laser for this revolver because the sights are so low and hard to see. One of the wood grip panels had also cracked- so I needed new grips anyway... As far as the green vs. red, they say green is easier to see. I haven't had a problem with the red though. For a $100 more, I'd stay with red and put the $100 towards an easy to carry semi-auto. Thanks for watching and good luck on what you decide.
I got my black version back in 1989. I bought the cheaper plastic Crimson grip for it and was not satisfied with how slippery it was. I emailed CT and they said no problem, send it back with $100 and we will send you the over molded rubber one that I love. Its my favorite home defense gun because it is effortless and my wife doesn't have to worry about cocking a semi and taking it off safety with lotion on her hands. Just pull the trigger until it goes click.
I have this J frame and am strongly considering getting the crimson trace laser for low light situations which is a strong concern with carrying this Gun. How do you sight it in with the laser?
If your sights are on, decide on a range/distance. For example, if you expect your needs to be within 10 feet or less, the laser can be adjusted using two tiny allen wrenches that come with the grips. You simply align the red laser sight with where you would normally aim your sights. If your sights are on, so is your laser. Because the laser is mounted to the side, it will not be "point of aim" at a range much greater or much closer than the distance you sight it in at. If sighted in at 10 feet, the laser would be effective for hitting center of mass at point blank range to 30 yards. Just don't count on it for bulls-eyes at the 30 yard distance; as the laser intersects bullet path at the distance you sight it in for. I took mine out after adjusting the laser to the sights at 10 feet, and was able to hit my dueling tree steel plates from the hip at about 20 feet. It is extremely accurate within the range I've described.
Thanks, will refer to this again if I ever get the grips. This gun is not meant for precision shooting and hitting bulls-eyes anyway, especially at that distance. It's good to have the lazer as a valuable tool for the low light conditions tho to give you that extra edge you may need to save your life and to find your target, should you need to use deadly force.
I own a 442 with separately purchased LG-405 and find it to be much more attractive and really looks like a gun, I don't believe there's any difference in weight 442 vs. 642 -if so, I would imagine negligible. There's something wrong if your grips require re-sighting after only 20 rounds. It should hold zero much longer than that.
Another alternative is in your front pocket contained in a DeSantis Nemesis. Relatively inexpensive and doesn't print much at all. That, or an Uncle Mike's pocket holster will do you well for front pocket carry.

"This is something I'd like to take my wife out with." -Phrasing, bro!
Freudian slip?

bltefft nowadays someone starts shooting up a place u might need more than 15. Under 15 you should be able to get rounds on target without the laser.

helps to hold the item in review in view of the camera

Just picked up mine today for $541 out the door. Will take it to my class tomorrow for the Florida license.
670 now......

Sorry, "Something I'd like to take my wife out with" caught my attention awkwardly enough to chuckle. She'll prob love it - great carry gun!

What's the difference between the lg 405 and 105 grips? I just bought the 442 but would like to get the laser grips also

Nice review, thanks.
Laser grips I believe to be a 'must' for any gun you intend to possibly rely upon in a dangerous encounter.
$350? I bought mine for $399 years ago and that was a good price. $350? Really? Good luck finding it at that price nowadays.
video was centered only to the ammo
It's $407 here in Texas.
Get the Federal "Low Recoil" .38spl Hydroshok rounds..
.. much better for this 1-7/8" bbl'd gun.
I just picked up one today they are 580.00.. thats the law enforcement or military price
vrollen I'd find a new supplier. They sell for 450 here in NC no bullshit discounts required, and that is 5 years later!
did u really point the gun at yourself?
The camera is on a stand. Thanks for looking out. Didn't mean to intimidate anyone...
You know I have pointed an empty gun at myself over a hundred times and the damm thing killed me every time it really sucks.
I love my 642 with CTLG
can you raise the camera angel
Not a bad video but thank you😵💫 half the time the gun it wasn’t in view
$800 in LA!
In Oklahoma $720 plus tax
I’ll be what a cold-blooded killer he’s going to take his wife out with that gun someone should call the police.
Wow. Learn to take a video.
