  • Numarine build some of the world's most popular explorer yachts, ranging from 22 - 45 meters in length.
I had the pleasure of visiting their shipyard a few weeks ago and just couldn't wait to publish this video, showing the unique approach to yacht building that this company has.

The use of "lean" and quality management tools, in yacht manufacturing should be a industry standard. Numarine have nailed the explorer range of yatchs, and will reflect in a strong order book. Very impressive. Great vblog David, to the high standards you have set.

Great video again. Even though they have HSE training not one pair of safety glasses in sight, not even the lathe and mill operators, they will be having a red day at some point.

Very impressive walk-through of the manufacturing areas and the various models. Incredibly informative and thoughtful Numarine host, exceptionally professional and obvious quality shipyard, simply amazing!.
The best part was you hardly got a word in, not necessary and really your Numarine host knew his business thoroughly and what Numarine's clients wanted and needed. Possibly your best work yet!
    Cheers.

I really enjoyed this video. 😊 I do like the walk-through of the shipyard/factory, allowing us a glimpse of what it's like when the ship is under construction. The addition of the ship layout overlay and the red dot showing us where you were in the ship is a great addition and I hope to see that used in future superyacht videos. I would love to see the construction and/or walk-through of their 45 meter vessel.
Thanks for the video and I hope you are doing well!

Fantastic video, David! I work for a large aerospace manufacturer and it was neat to see how Numarine is using the same lean tools we utilize to improve our production efficiency. I especially liked how they incentivized their implementation of employee ideas for improvement (known in leanspeak/Japanese as "Kaizen"). Some of the best ideas come from the people who have their hands on the product day in and day out and it's a wonderful way to instill a sense of ownership by giving their input visibility. Overall, loved the video and I'm looking forward to more indepth looks like this if possible!

the look good but, I had a look at various models on the site and they do not make good use of internal space, they do not have enough range or fuel capacity either. If they made some inroads into the use of solar and hybrid engines, as well as keeping a slightly narrower hull, they could easily boost that cruising range (oddly they have it separate from economical range) to 6000+ nm. The yachts are light due to their composite tops vs Aluminum which has some slight advantage in displacement BUT it comes at a cost of strength, fire resistance, and stability. Sorry, I still like Bering yachts better :-) But saying that, im not dissing the company or you for presenting it. I do like their style and overall design which again, is easier to do with composite than aluminum. As a person who dislikes the idea of drowning.. I ask myself this question: What would I want to be on if I was in the Indian ocean and was hit by a freak wave ! Well.. composite would NOT be on my list 🙂

I am curious how the current financial crises in Turkey is impacting yacht builders. With inflation nearing 80% and the currency collapse, there must be a huge impact on all Turkish builders, including NuMarine. Turkey has burned through nearly all of their cash reserves and may, sometime very soon, be forced to declare bankruptcy.
If I were thinking of having a yacht built by a Turkish shipyard, I would be hesitant to do so in the current situation. Thoughts?

I'm not convinced that fiberglass is the way to go, look at Nordhavn and Bering with their steel hulls and aluminum superstructures. I would be prone to go with a Bering myself

10 for sure, but possibly as early as 5 years, every boat over 30 feet in length will be a catamaran, with pre-preg carbon fiber construction and a minimum 50 year life span. Delivery date will average 1 day per foot. Building fiberglass boats with polyester or vinylester resin is low quality, and bigger boats with steel hulls is a cheap way to go, who in their right mind, builds a boat with steel that will spend its life in a saltwater bath, can you say endless rust bucket?

Looks like they have a Lean Methodology. Dont know the variant, only worked with WCM and Factory Excellence.
Lean methodology when applied properly, is amazing.
Ive been to businesses where they try to implement only parts of it, and it never works.
This shipyard has, by the look of whats presented, implemented it properly.

The very fact that this company believes you can't use the term "master cabin" should tell you everything you need to know. When you add in the factors of them not wanting to do customization and that they are using factory production GRP, this is not a good place to spend millions of dollars.

    • @Yachtsforsaleblog
      @Yachtsforsaleblog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Peter, I also misunderstood Ali when he said "I'm not sure if we can call this a Master". What he actually meant is that the real Master Stateroom is on the upper deck, so the main deck stateroom couldn't really be referred to as a "Master".
With regards to the GRP and customisation...using GRP up to a certain size allows yards to build a very robust yacht at a very competitive price point. Most production yards resist too much customisation, they have a schedule to keep to. There are other brands that offer fully custom projects, but at a very different price.

Turkey has hyper-inflation at the moment, it was always ridiculously cheap when I visited there in the past but on this recent trips prices of hotels, taxis etc were more in line with what I usually pay in Europe. The shipyard seems to be coping well, with a full order book. If I live stream with the owner in the future I'm sure this is a question that will be asked.

@@stuartbaker6339 Look at the "VIP" at 20:00 I have seen Ikea brochures that look better. Look at the way they make the beds, a solid plank with a mattress on top. You can see the screws in the window trims.
At 21:38 the masterbedroom looks the same but bigger. Window trim is better, but the window in window is a cheap solution. The ceiling looks very bad, the tiles are not even alligned properly. You can see that some ceiling tiles have a lower corner than their neighbor. The led is done very cheaply as well, good led lighting is often indirect, hidden.
Than a personal point, at 34:58 you see their showroom design. To me it looks VERY cold and unpleasant, but that might be cultural as well, I know many Turkish people like that sort of style. But as I said, that is just personal taste.
I mean dont get me wrong, I will probably never be able to afford this. But for that money, I think I would choose another dream boat.

    Brilliant stuff 👊
Gotta love a shipyard tour and a look at how boats develope under construction.
As a young shipwright (after fishing off the west coast of Scotland for many years 😁), I toured many shipyards (lols, still get my foot in the door for a look when I can 😎, love guitar workshops too "Emerald Guitars" Brilliant stuff in carbon fibre ✌).
Lols, enjoyed a beer wi that one 🍻
In all my time as a shipwright,
One of the most fascinating and skilled jobs I built was a 3" thick steel bulbous bow for a ferry, a fckn big one 39,000 tonnes, yeah 😎.
Would love to see some of the heat-line bending technology/technique on some of the modern steel hulled boats. That is truely an art-form when ye watch it being done 😊 ahhhh memories ✌
