Hornby 060PT, A 1993 loco to 'brighten up your layout', but is it collectable? Repair and Run

- I picked up this loco a couple of weeks ago for £12, it needed a motor so the total £24.50.
Join me for a repair and run where I pose the questions, if the loco was only released for one year in 1993 is it rare and collectable? And if now model railways are too expensive, why can you find good runners for under £25?

Interesting video and definitely one worth collecting… small point to mention at about 15 minutes on video it seems the copper cap is missing off the chimney, or are my eyes deceiving me!
Yes - I noticed that too…
So confession time.. I noticed it at the end of the edit when the video was half way uploaded, I knew someone would notice! LOL Must get my eyes checked but it takes so long to up load I let it go. Thanks for watching and you are correct!
I was very impressed with your efforts to make this a working model again, it is a shame about it being very noisy. Have you ever tried Copperslip to lubricate all the moving parts ? especially the motor and gearbox and I have been using for 40years plus now. Regards from Ron 🚂👍🚂
Thanks for your kind words Ron, I will give the copper slip ago. Thanks Matt
Only just found this channel. Looks good and will now subscribe. I like these private owner pannier tanks and have a couple. Yours does seem rather noisy though. You also seem to have lost your blackened copper chimney cap - it was there at the start of the video, but seems to have dropped off!
Many thanks for subscribing. You are right it was there at the beginning, I will have a look on the bench, thank you for pointing that out! Anyway thanks for watching and again for the message.
It is a bit late now but the later motor and housing will fit if you file off a couple of lugs off the chassis. The big advantage is they are a lot cheaper, cheaper still if Hornby has them in stock. A couple of years ago the bottom plates that hold on the wheels were like gold dust people were buying locos like your broken one just for the baseplate. A good purchase though the body is worth that.
Oh I had no idea, I will keep that in mind if I come across this chassis and motor again, Anyway thanks for watching and sharing the info!
I enjoyed the renovation and I'm impressed with the availability of parts. We do not have that in the State's especially if it were a Bachmann. Again, I have location envy. Great video and a wonderful collection addition.
Thanks Bill!
well done repairing this lovely little loco 😃😃
Many thanks! it does actually look good on the layout.
It looks like one of the Great Western pannier tank locomotives taken on by London Underground.
Similar but I think they were later and had Cabs.
I think SSPP was Super Smooth Pulling Power.
Sound about right but in reality anything but smooth. Thanks for watching and taking the time to message.
I saw one of these on ebay a couple of years ago and took a fancy to it. I managed to get it for £25 mint in a box. The next one that came up on ebay - some time later - was not mint but sold for £60. They do seem to crop up only rarely and I would certainly like a spare one at a good price.
Apologies for the delayed response, £25 boxed is very good, I am going to keep a watch out and see how often they come uo for sale. Anyway thanks for watching and takin the time to comment.
Great repair ,wonder why the motor was out in first place ?
Who knows.....
Get a copper top to the funnel
I found it on the floor after I complete and up-loaded the video. Pleased I found it but frustrating I did not notice it while filming!
It also looks like a special Great Western pannier tank locomotives that were purchased by the Post Office.
I will have to look that one up, thanks for the pointer.
@@dustyshelfcollectables 25 of the Great Western Railway Pannier Tank locomotives were sold to The Post Office in 1956, through what I heard!!
Nice work Matt.
Does look good and as a freight train with a colourful rake of wagons and tankers behind it would look even better.
The hobby is getting expensive, even for second hand locos.
Fortunately there are bargains to be had if you look.
Happy Modelling.
I've become quite fond of it! and as you say the bargains are there!
