Kyle, I used to be able to send a message to a creator, apparently TH-cam took that away as well. Anyway, be careful of Lynnewood, esp at night. They have what look like pitbulls in there. I've seen them occasionally, as I live down the road. Thank you for this magnificent video. From what I understand, everything of value has been removed from the interior. Perhaps you can get permission to video inside. Taxes are $3k/yr for 1 BR condo; you can imagine what they'd be for this. First Church of Korea must be gettings lots of donations from the flock.
Hey Kyle, get a note or some prove of paper document, like find out which estate agent is looking after the property and offer help to film it to market it for sale. Or just tell the estate agent the truth that you have a project on TH-cam to view abandoned home's.

Now that’s a real MANSION. Not a newly built large house with plastic or aluminum siding exterior walls and paper Sheetrock walls inside. This MANSION is built from expensive stones and marble with a true Slate stone roofing. That’s why it’s still standing after 100 years. Great video.

I visited the Widner mansion a number of times in the mid-1950s when it was a seminary. On one visit, I stayed over-night and was put up in the guest room which had been Mr. Widner’s bed room-a fabulous room with floor to ceiling mirrors in elaborate gold frames on opposite walls, reflecting to infinity, giving the impression that you're standing in a room the size of a football field.

I got very involved studying the Titanic. I got very depressed and had to stop. It became an obsession wanting to learn about the families who did and didn’t survive. It was a horrible thing to have happen. What a shame so many people died and others lived with the terrible memories the rest of their life. God bless them all. ❤️🌹❤️
Could be proof of what went on behind the scenes tolose people's lives for nothing,from what's out there people working on the ship say it was the Olympiad,not titanic, because of the crash with a war ship,an on going fire for a week,that's how the ship went down,wanting to get out first,cut corners,workers paid off to say nothing, needed the money,sad.

Wow, some real racism and classism here. Se eral churches have boight majestic old buildings in my town. They got them via tax sale, or were granted them from the town or state for a small nominal fee like fifty dollars, or were given them in an inheritance. The building was probably lying vacant and perhaps, because of historical significance, cant be developed or changed too much by a new owner.
More than anything, I appreciate you digging up the history on the owners and sharing it. The history behind the beautiful abandoned homes are one of the most intriguing parts of discovering them. I wish more channels did this.

Thanks for putting this video out there. It's making people aware of a beautiful old mansion that needs restoration. All too often in this country (especially in NYC) buildings like that get vandalized beyond repair or demolished. It seems most Americans don't value history or beautiful architecture that with loving care can last for centuries.

Rather than sneak in at night, why not, at least, try contacting the church that owns it? If you indicate that A) you want to video-document the interior, then combine that with what you have already done to form a full video view of the home. B) show previous work illustrating harmless intent and C) remind them that such a publicly available video might be an aid in finding a buyer that might otherwise not even know of the home, then, perhaps, they might agree to grant access accompanied by one of their staff monitoring the visit. Better that way as there is no danger of being discovered and charged with trespassing.
If you do contact the Church to ask for access,don't forget to invite them or their representatives to accompany you as you do your filming,to assure that nothing is damaged or tampered with. Even though that would be assumed anyway,mentioning it shows your respect for their concerns.
It would be worthwhile,if you get your Documentary done,to market it to the TV networks or at least Public TV-they LOVE this kind of stuff.

My grandmother lived in West Oak Lane in Philly (now a war zone) about a mile from this. We drove past it for years never actually seeing the building or knowing what the property was. I truly hope someone buys it and restores it. Even as new use like hotel/convention center--it would be great to see it preserved.

My Dad was a student here in late 1950s, early 1960s when it was Faith Theological Seminary. I lived around the corner from there on Heather Rd. Some of the posted videos show the interior and it is sad the place is as run down as it is. I remember it when it was in its glory and beautiful. Some of the other TH-camrs got permission from a grounds keeper that apparently lives there.
Who looks after it, it seems like it has care takers otherwise the gardens would of been like a jungle.
Can I just point out that although Widener was an investor in the building of the Titanic, he was not the owner. The Titanic was owned by the British Shipping company White Star Line. Unfortunately, due to American made films like Titanic made in 1997, people seem to believe that the Titanic was mostly or exclusively an American tragedy, which belittles the vast loss made by the British who actually made up the majority of the passengers and almost all of the crew.
I've never thought of it as "an American tragedy".That being said....the people on board were on their way to America....and many Americans were on board. American's are also the ones who found her. Not sure why "being an American tragedy" would belittle anything. A tragedy is a tragedy.

J.P Morgan and a few other corrupt bankers were also behind the built of Titanic. Some even alleged that they had something to do with the sinking as warnings were put off to the side when wired (called) through.
Peter A. B. Widener did not die on the Titanic, but died here at the mansion in 1915, at the age of 80. His son, George Widener and his grandson Harry Widener did die on the Titanic.

Old Peter Widener was a banker and made the family fortune originally in trolley cars in Philadelphia. In 1912, I believe Widener’s fortune was the largest in the Pennsylvania state. Widener was good friends with banker J.P. Morgan, who set up a trust company called the International Mercantile Marine (or I.M.M.), and this company’s main goal was to merge the big shipping lines together in order to form a kind of monopoly called a “Morganization,” basically get the companies to cooperate with each other and keep prices high so they would profit from running the business. Too much competition was good for the consumer but bad for the businessmen, and they were frequently at war. Especially the two British lines, White Star (Titanic’s owners; run by J. Bruce Ismay) and Cunard Line (which owned the Lusitania and later built the Queen Mary). Morgan and Widener wanted these companies to settle their differences and operate as members of their American monopoly. White Star agreed and sold themselves to I.M.M. while Cunard refused and eventually got British government funds. Peter Widener owned the bank that loaned money to I.M.M. used to then purchase White Star. This made Widener in a sense, even more Titanic’s owner than Ismay or Morgan were. Ismay stayed on White Star to operate it and eventually came to be chairman of the board in Morgan’s company as well.
Elderly Peter Widener had a son and heir named George, middle-aged, who sailed on Titanic’s maiden voyage along with his wife Eleanor and their son Harry. I don’t know too much about George Widener but I know he would’ve become head of his father’s wealth if he had survived. He held a private party in the ship’s “à la carte” restaurant, in honor of Captain Smith, who was planning to retire after bringing Titanic safely back to England. Smith was at the party for a short time, but several survivors who attended the dinner reported that Smith drank no alcohol and was anxious to return to the ship’s bridge to see how his officers were doing, looking out for ice that had been reported in the area.
George’s wife Eleanor was a middle-aged socialite and had a string of genuine pearls in her possession, and this is partly the basis for the Heart of the Ocean diamond from the James Cameron movie.
George’s son Harry, in his late twenties or early thirties, was a Harvard University graduate and avid book collector and had a precious second edition of Francis Bacon’s essays with him on Titanic. He was hoping to add it to his private collection at home in Pennsylvania.
Traveling with the Widener’s was George’s manservant/valet Edward Keeping and Eleanor’s ladies-maid Miss Amelie Gieger, originally from Germany. Both were in their thirties, same as young Harry.
After Titanic struck the iceberg, Eleanor and Miss Gieger were able to get seats in a lifeboat, but George and Harry and Edward Keeping were men and remained with the ship and died. Eleanor’s pearls and Harry’s book were also lost in the sinking.
When elderly Peter Widener heard of his son and grandson’s death, he was naturally grieved and upset. Furthermore, his grief turned to anger when he heard that White Star chairman Bruce Ismay had managed to survive by claiming an empty seat in one of the very last lifeboats to let men passengers in with the women. According to one story, Peter said “If George and Harry are really gone, Ismay’s got a lot of explaining to do.” I must say in Ismay’s defense, however, that the movie paints him to be a terrible human being but the truth is much more complex than that. Ismay became a convenient scape-goat.
Afterwards Peter and his daughter-in-law Eleanor heard a rumor circulated in the newspapers that the body of either George or Harry had been found by a Canadian ship a few days after the sinking. How saddened they were to find out this wasn’t so, but the body actually was identified as George Widener’s valet Edward Keeping, and he had been carrying one of George’s personal possessions which is how the confusion started.
Anyways, old Peter Widener died in 1915, the same year that Eleanor made a generous donation to Harvard to build a massive new library, which was named in her son Harry’s honor. The Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library is still part of Harvard’s campus to this day. Eleanor Widener eventually remarried to an archaeologist, Dr. Alexander Rice, and died in 1937. I wish I knew what happened to the maid Miss Amelie Gieger, but I do not. Eventually the Widener family lost their money, and the mansions of both Peter and George were sold.
You can find a lot of this material on the Internet in pieces, especially Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Titanica. As far as I have been able to ascertain, every word of it is true.

I used to live about a mile away from this property and everytime I would drive past it I would almost always see a white dog sitting on the front of the mansion steps. I was intrigued by it to where I started doing research. The story was deep. Another fact was that the very back building of the mansion is an indoor swimming pool. The structure wasn't built when the mansion was first built. It was later added. Also on the website I looked at had many pictures of the inside and how the grounds used to look and how it looks now. Im still amazed!!!
That Mansion is absolutely breathtaking!!! Its such a shame to see it in that condition!! I wished that I lived near it well maybe some day the wife and in WILL take a drive to check it out!!!

My Maiden name is Widener. I am the great niece of George Widener. This just makes me ill to watch. The house was sold by a relative of the Elkins family. The church that bought it has allowed it to fall into complete ruins!! I would love nothing better to be able to own this family home, but it is tied up in court. I highly suggest you only go where you are able to, unless getting prior authorization to entry. To go in would be an act of breaking and entering and would land you in jail. It is so sad to see this in this shape. Please be respectful to the family that has gone through a very tough time.

However, it is still (mostly) intact, and that is better than the fate of so many grand houses, both here and in England. This is fascinating to me thank you for posting this. My great grandfather was Wallace Henry Hartley the head bandsman on the titanic. The Hartley family went on to create Hartley jam by William pickles Hartley . My daughter was born on 15th April at the time the titanic sunk .

It’s for sale for $15,000,000 and apparently a new tax bill for historic properties in Philadelphia limits the property taxes so it would actually only be a maximum of $54,000 per year. It isn’t abandoned but rather owned by the “First Korean Baptist Church of New York”. They couldn’t get the permits in order to convert the property to a church and so put it back on the market. It is in relatively good condition outside, is structurally sound, and only a few of the rooms inside are in bad condition. The servanrs corridor, quarters are in disrepair but the main rooms, save the dinning room or smoking room, are in fine condition. As are the bedrooms. The indoor pool is fine as well but needs a good cleaning.
If I win the lottery I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Restoration costs are estimated at $5,000,000 to restore the interior and the grounds. So quite the bargain in all actuality.

From what I've read in several different sources, their are security guards living in the guest house or possible both of them which is why there are no broken windows, vandalism or graffiti. They apparently are doing their job well.

Actually ,depending on the state, he could go inside, have utilities turned on in his name and fix the place up, equaling to him owning the place after starting in it for 7 years (depending on the state). It's called squatters law

In early 1905 the Rothschild wanted to open reserve bank but two of the most wealthiest objected and it caused problems for the Rothschild.
JP Morgan invited both of the families on the TITANIC only to pull out last min for business reason .
Titanic was sanked by the Rothschild to get rid of hand full of people who stood in Rothschilds way.

This place is far from "immaculate" inside, from what I've read. As you can see in your drone footage the roof is in terrible condition and has been for some time, allowing rain and melting snow to pour into the inside of the Mansion destroying the ceilings, walls, paintings, carpets, statues and etc. I've also read that a lot of the valuable wood trim, floors, staircases and etc. have been sold and removed from the mansion. The article I read stated that the mansion is on the verge of not being able to be rescued and restored. I also read that a guard or guards live in one or more of the guest homes and make sure no one enters onto the property. Another great historical building being left to fall into oblivion.........gone forever. White Hall another great mansion built by the same builder who built this one met the same fate and it was just as amazing, if not more amazing than this one.
Shame on the owners for letting it fall into ruin. Places of historical significance need to be looked after. What is that church doing holding onto this building when it’s doing nothing to restore it?

You do know you must qualify to "tour" this pricey of an estate. Agents are not museum guides. I have a property for sale and no one gets an appointment with out proof of funds. The car you arrive in, purse you carry or a suit and tie aren't enough to cut it. Most qualified buyers don't need to dress to impress. The art of deal is in play if you want a great price you don't arrive dripping in it.

Really tragic what is happening to this magnificent home. The problem is with 110 rooms no can afford to live here and maintain it as a residence. It's got to made into a hotel or condos but again given it's size just maintenance alone would cost big bucks. Such a shame.

Yes, but it didn't become Widener till 72'. It was Philadelphia Military College. It was the grandson who donated a lot who asked for change.
This big old houses are money pits. There's a family here that built three different castles over the years, and even though the family are still quite wealthy, the grandson had to sell his castle because he was speeding over 100K in property taxes and heating & cooling was costing over $200.00 a day. He didn't want to to piss away any more of the family money so he sold it ad moved into a small home the family owned. I can't even imagine what the taxes run for a place like this.

Hans2406: Look at era that these homes were built. Prior to our modern birth control, if couples got along they had between 8-15 children based on their fertility. At this level, they usually had a governess and likely 25 or so servants. They all needed a place to live. In addition, often there were rooms needed for guests and family that would often live with the family. Also, this was a time due to etiquette one could not boast about their success, so it was shown by the homes they lived in and how they entertained.
Hell yes. If I had fuck tons of incoming liquid cash I would live in a place like this. Why not ?

In Pennsylvsnia, you'll be taxed to death. Pennsylvsnia is known as the land of taxes.
Well it costs you about 18 million dollars and that is without the renovation costs. The property price keeps going down, but the renovation price will keep rising. For a full restoration you are sure to be spending several millions to restore the house to a livable state and if you want to fully restore the house you are sure to be spending even more.

I quite frankly can't identify with anyone wanting to live in such an enormous place. Seems like it would be a very lonely place until/ unless you threw huge parties. The mansion reminds me of an airplane.

Widener was NOT an "OWNER" of TITANIC.
He was a member (and as you point out, investor" in White Star. He was no more an "owner" then any other investor. The TRUE "OWNER" of TITANIC was J.P. Morgan, who owned the International Mercantile Marine corporation which purchased the White Star Line 10 years earlier in 1902. So calling Widener "the owner" is a FER stretch and is a misleading title.
Widener was not involved with White Star, he was a founding board member of International Mercantile Marine. He later acquired a 20% stake in IMM, but he never sat on the board of White Star Line, and he was not an investor in the titanic

I have actually seen the Titanic memorial in the Halifax cemetery whilst visiting in-laws graves. I also read books on it *years* before the DiCaprio film. Being part Irish, it is of great interest to me.☘️🇮🇪
It is a great shame to see such a beautiful building in such a dilapidated state, it would probably be depressed if it could show feelings! It's an even greater shame that it stays empty and not put to some good use.
But equally as sad, if not heartbreaking, is the man who lived here died from a painful illness. Which was probably nothing compared to the pain of his losing his oldest son & his grandson. Via Titanic or otherwise, loss of a child and/or grandchild is the greatest pain we could live through.
This just shows that even living in a huge beautiful mansion & having gobs of money cannot protect ANYone from the most painful losses in life.😟 Rest in peace, gentlemen, all 3 of you.🌹🇨🇦

Just out of college, I lived there in 1979 for 3 months... top floor, very small servants room... It was in very good shape.. marble grand entrance, dark wood walls, and other details you would see in a building like this.... I remember the white rocks out front, an indoor swimming pool in the back and lots of marble stairs .... That's it!

He died 2 or 3 years later, probably from the crushing loss of his family members plus the realization of so many other souls dying on his ship. How does a man live with that? This is the remnant of his life on earth. But where is he in eternity? That is the haunting question. All the money in the world, does not buy us power over life and death. If the mansion is guarded with human security guards around the clock 24/7 there is an excellent chance the guards could be armed with guns. Especially if the mansion is considered a historical landmark. Sometimes guards get scared too especially at night if they hear noise or see something unusual. Many guards would shoot first and ask questions later. No mansion interior viewing in my opinion is worth dying for. Please don't sneak in. Try to get permission for the owners to go inside.
